~Rules~

[1] Please don't steal the shop concept or art. A lot of work has been put into making this shop a possibility. Fanart is fine and loved, but please, do give credit where credit is due, and don't modify an artist's work.
[2] No begging, please. Opportunities may arise for free characters, but other than that, please don't ask for one. Also, if customs and pet trades are full, do not send our artists bribes for a new slot unless they specifically state that they are taking them.
[3] Please be decent in this thread. If real-life issues are bothering you, and you know its about something that will make the crap hit the fan, please don't bring them here. We would like to keep the environmen of the thread, at least, peaceful. RP, on the other hand, can be as nasty as you want so long as you don't violate Gaian ToS and it fits your character.
[4] Please don't post your shop's doings in here. Its fine if you have an ad for a flatsale or whatnot in your sig, but do NOT come in here and post into the thread to come check out your shop and buy a pet.
[5] Please do not steal concepts from questors. That's just mean, dirty, and downright underhanded.
[5] Please be literate! No 1337 or chatspeak here.

~FAQ~

Q. Can I have a cosplay character from the book or from other media?
A. NO. No cosplays are allowed here. If its from the book, then its most likely used by the shop as an NPC. If its from another source of media, it does not belong here.

Q. How can I get one?
A. Through flatsales, auctions, raffles, and events.

Q. How strict are the RP requirements?
A. Fairly strict. You can disappear for a bit if you want to, but you may miss some interesting interactions with NPC's. You can be as heavy or light of an RPer as you desire, though don't expect to see as much NPC action as heavier RPing people.

Q. How much will they cost?
A. Flatsale prices are currently set to 30K for your character. This is for four stages, remember, of custom-drawn artwork. Raffle tickets will be 100 gold, and auctions -- well, auctions can go anywhere, but the starting bid will be at flatsale price (30K)

Q. 30,000 gold! Why so much?
A. A LOT of work goes into this shop, moreso than most others. There are people playing our mass numbers of NPC's, there will be big plot events, and 4-stages of heavy-work characters. This isn't your little pre-linearted shop, kiddies. And this price will most likely go up in the future.

Q. Can they breed?
A. Sure can, but they're humans, so keep that in mind. Breeding limits will have a max of three children, and there will be time spans between. One child will be born each breeding, which you can give away or have the shop raffle/auction off. You will get some of the profits (most likely 25%, to keep from people going breed-crazy merely for gold), though the artist will have a fair cut as well. Arrangements will be worked out more as the time comes.

Q. Can I have a gay/lesbian character?
A. But of course. However, they won't be able to breed unless they find a surrogate mother or do the dirty with a male.

Q. Can I speak to rats/pigeons?
A. All characters gain the ability to communicate with rats and birds when they become full Underworlders. Rat-Speakers will be able to do it shortly before reaching their final Underworlder stage.

Q. Can I breed characters from two different cultures?
A. Not likely. Different cultures tend to breed only with eachother o keep their skills where they belong. However, it might happen on a rare occasion (and with a really good reason).

A few years have passed since the Betrayal, and things have been calm in London Below -- or at least as calm as the world can become. Door has been working on her goal of uniting London Below, though success has been low, all the classes still wishing to be their own kind and have as little to do with the other denizens as possible. And it seems that a worm has entered the society: something (or someone) seems to be keeping hatred high.

Though the Beast is gone, slain, the Labyrinth still stands and the doors that it leads to have shut once again. Rumors spread of old terrors returning, wondering who has taken up home in the Angel's old chambers.

The sewers and subways remain the same, though new people and creatures wander their depths in search of either salvation or sin, looking for newcomers to help or hinder and aid in their own goals.

What will become of London Below? Will it unite? Will it forever remain torn into its complex system of classes and castes? Is everyone safe at last... or are they preparing to meet a new threat?

Neverwhere is the name for a place where people go when they slip through the cracks and lose hold of their lives. In this instance, as well as the book, the story is placed in London. However, it is no London that we are familiar with. The one we know is called London Above, a place of hustle, bustle, work and mundanity.

This other London, however, is a place of magic, both good and bad. It is called by its occupants as London Below, a place that the Above worlder's shouldn't know about. However, they sometimes lose hold of reality for various reasons, and end up in this crazy new world, everything they've known their entire life completely removed from existance.

When one slips through the cracks, people in London Above cease to notice them. They literally get thrown out of the "real world" when they find London Below: people will not only lose their jobs and their homes, but be completely erased from the memories of their friends and acquaintances. Once one enters London Below, its impossible to go back... You are stuck to wander the underground and rooftops of London for the rest of your life.

Many different cultures reside in London Below, each with their own preferences and adorations, their own moral codes and laws. However, the world is ruled by one regular law, only upheld at the Floating Market: That no one is to harm another on Floating Market grounds. This is the only rule available to keep London Below from exploding into war.

In London below, you will travel sewers where you will encounter a rather offensively odiferous people, forgotten buildings where you will meet men and women who converse with rats, bunkers where you may find a good friend or a dire enemy. You will find yourself amidst assassins and life-eaters, sadists and kings. And you will encounter the Floating Market, a great carnival of merchants mysteriously homed someplace in London Above (it changes each time), where you will face the mystery of why the Above-Worlder's have yet to notice your culture.

Through this shop, you will play a character that has freshly fallen through the cracks. You will choose your fate through deciding where your path within this world may lie.

The Underground - The underground comprises of the tube system of London, both used and abandoned. Every single tube stop found on your standard map can be explored and might take you to a new place, as well as the fact that some unlisted and closed-down stops still remain in the Underground, whole and intact. Mind the gaps; strange things live within them, prepared to take you into the gaps for dinner.

The Sewers - As unpleasant as it may sound, there are some places in the world that you need to travel to by sewer. The sewer route will take you nearly anywhere you need to go, as the entirity of London Above is connected to it.

Alcoves - The alcoves are the niches of London Below, and can compose of anything: be it a building long since eradicated from London Above, or old World War II bunkers. People take up occupancy in these alcoves, entire societies living within their depths, or merely one or two people residing within them.

Knight's Bridge - Access through the Knight's Bridge can only be found in London Above. It is not recommended that you cross this bridge, unless you must to take it to a Market. The Knight Bridge takes sacrifices, people get lost completely within the pitch darkness never to return.

Floating Market - The Floating Market is held at random intervals within London Above. It is always housed at a different locale Above, so if you wish to attend you will need to find out from someone else where it is located first.

There are many different characters in the world of Neverwhere, most coming from the Above, though some are born amidst the sewers and rooftops of the "underground" world. All characters entering the world will have freshly 'fallen through the cracks' of London Above, and their experiences in London Below will cause them to change appearance according to their path. These are the types of characters that one can play within this continuity.

Rat Speakers (Common): These people are usually fairly decrepit looking, moreso than a lot of the people from other aspects of London Below. They have the ability to communicate with rats, a higher-up being in the underground. These people even worship rats, and vow to harm any soul that dares to harm or insult one. They can be found within alcoves away from the sewers.

Sewer Folk (Common): The sewer folk are about the most unpleasant people around the underground, at least to the senses. They live their lives by fishing from the sewers whatever might get flushed down (pardon the pun) and reselling those items at the Floating Market. These items can range from dead cats to watches, so you never know when you will find a good deal -- so long as you can stomach their stench. The sewer folk either cannot or will not speak, and instead communicate through crude sign language.

The Feudalists (Common): The feudalists are London's echo, a reminder of the middle ages. These people are Medieval Times in every way possible; they have strict caste arrangements, ranging from peasant to Earl. Only one Earl currently lives, though, and the society has been without a king for many decades. Artisans, these people specialize in crafting armor and clothes from scrap metals and spare fabrics.

The Buddhistic (Uncommon): The Buddhistic are a band of Asians that found their way into London Below (typically homed in Tokyo Below and other such large Asian cities). They are not typical buddhists, per se. They are a peace-loving, quiet society specializing in healing and meditation. These people typically keep to themselves.

The Barbarics (Uncommon): The Barbarics are London Below's Norse society, founded by the Anglo Saxxons that came to London oh so long ago. They live for war, fighting, sparring, and good drink. They are not all bad, though; their society also depends lightly on hunting and long nights in their alcove with good company and perhaps a good bard.

Hunters (Uncommon): Obviously, the most known of the Hunter society is named Hunter. These people are her kin. Hunters are beautiful, exotic-looking people, often with mocha-colored skin and black tresses. This is not their only personification, however. Hunters travel the sewers in search of the strange, magic-engorged beasts that wander them. They are a serious folk, though they can have their light moments: However, they do live for the hunt. Hunters make very good allies and even better body guards.

Roof Folk (Uncommon): The roof folk are a jovial group. These people despise living under the streets of London, so they move, instead, to abandoned rooftops. Roof folk eat, sell, and converse with birds throughout their daily lives. They even begin to wear clothing made of the discarded feathers of their friends. Laughing and joking constantly, a roof folk makes a good friend and resource for information.

Velvets (Females only, rare): The Velvets are a personification of vampires; however, these creatures do not suck blood: They live by sucking the warmth and energy from a human, leaving their victims frozen and dying a very depressed (but somehow happy if the victim is male) death. They are amazing seductresses, reminiscent of goths: They only where clothes made out of black velvet.

White-Wigs (Males only, rare): Not much is known about White-Wigs except their adoration for chiefly historical clothing. They dote on dressing as one would between the 1400's to 1800's. White-Wig is just a general phrase, as they do not always require to wear a white wig. White-Wigs are a form of sadist, their intent is not to kill, but to destroy and devour any bit of emotion from a human that they can.

Outside-Loners (Rare): Outside-loaners are those within the Underworld who still insist on living a homeless life in London-Above, sleeping in doorsteps and most likely dreaming of returning to their past lives. While they don't go Underground too often, they can still communicate with those of London Below, and sometimes get noticed by people in London Above.

Inside-Loners (Rare): Inside-Loners are the underground folk who also somewhat slipped through the cracks of London Below. Be they antisocial or merely disliked, these people live solitary lives in London Below, pursuing their own interests. Some become artisans, weapon crafters, or other such artistic-related skills, while others go for the path of body guard.

Cannibals (Very Rare): Sadists to the max. These beings delight in pain and the taste of human flesh. They live to terrorize, often sharpening their teeth to points and purposefully mutilating themselves to aid in mutilating other people. (Note: While you will not be able to kill or maim another's character without permission first from his/her player, you can still scare them with this race, harass them, and threaten them. These are the major playable badlines within this continuity: Psychopathic and reckless.)

~Stages~

Stage 1: Above-Worlder -- You have freshly fallen through the cracks. What do you discover when you go through? What happens to your home, your job, your life? How do you feel about losing it all? Roleplay will show who you meet while inhabiting this strange new world.

Stage 2: Realization -- You have realized your fate, and now you are beginning to settle in with your culture. Your clothes may change, your attitude, or even your bodily appearance.

Stage 3: Dramatization -- You are now comfortable with your role in the Underworld, and have started picking up your culture strongly.

Stage 4: Under-Worlder -- By now you have completely changed to fit your role. New outfit, hair, everything that you needed. You are a fully-accepted Under-Worlder, knowledgeable in the ways of London-Below and able to aid (or hinder) newcomers.

Stage 5: Legend -- This is a special stage reserved for people that we feel deserve this additional stage. The character goes on to become a legend within London Below, gaining such things as special abilities or attributes. An example of what they might become may be an angel, or a demon, a monster or a saint... its hard to say, and will be individualised to the players who recieve it.

~NPC's~

Mr. Croup -- A malignant man. He is best described as a fox-like man, bearing lank, shoulder-length orange hair, China-blue eyes, and a graveyard smile of ancient teeth. The cheeks of this short man are somewhat shallow, and his skin is pale, but he hardly acts like he is of ill-health. His skinny form is covered by a black suit, the cut of it odd, as though someone gave a medieval tailor bad plans for a modern suit. Mr. Croup has been in London-Below for quite some time, an assasin, sadist, and generally just not a nice fellow to be around.

Mr. Vandemar -- This man is the wolf to Mr. Croup's fox. Tall and thick (though not fat), Vandemar lacks the intelligent cunning of Mr. Croup, preferring to merely kill and devour recklessly. He has salt-and-pepper hair and a rather sullen face, and is equally as evil as his companion. Mr. Croup and Mr. Vandemar always travel together.

Richard Mayhew -- Will there be a chance for this man to be around London Below? Only time will tell...

Door -- The Lady Door might also be around for an encounter or two.

Marquis deCarabas -- This conniving bugger is always present in London Below, though where he is, no one knows til they need one of his favors...

Ol' Bailey -- This jovial, rotund roof-dweller is always present at a market, prepared to sell you a good rook for company (or for your evening stew) or shed a little light on a question that you may have.

The Rats -- Rats are to be respected in London Below. Rats tell the Rat Speakers what they think they need to hear, and Rat Speakers spread that word on to the rest of the world. They are like royalty.

Others? -- Who knows who (or what) may show up in the world of London Below. It is, after all, a place of magic, where one can even die and come back to life...

~Roleplay~

Roleplay in London Below has the following rules:

[1] NO GODMODING!
[2] Until I have stated so in your journal, your character does NOT have any strange powers or abilities. You are human until enough time has passed for you to gain special traits.
[3] Logs of all RPs are expected to be placed into your journal.
[4] NPC's are played by the shop owner and artists. You will listen to them as you listen to us, especially during Markets.
