I had only known Zable, Georgie's only son, for a few hours before he passed away in my arms.
He had strangles. He was starving to death. He was dehydrated. So we decided to let him go.
And it was the best decision we've ever made when it came to a horse's life. I will never forget the look he gave me when we found him. The look of "I can't trust you, but you're the only hope I've got," turned to "I'm in so much pain, please make it stop," to "Goodbye, and thank you," in just a few short hours is almost too much for me.
Well, I missed Georgie so much, I decided to look for his offspring. He had sired a little brownish colt, unnamed until we found him, and a gray filly. We found the filly first, now a full grown mare, and was in foal. Gorgeous, she had a nice home too.
Well, when we found his colt, which we named Zable after one of my Gaian pets that had the same brownish color... He had been starving in a pen barely large enough for one horse, let alone the three that were in there. He was there, completely underweight and thin; along with Magi; and another mare, whom had obviously been dead for a while. We took the animals, along with some fat barn cats that had been surviving on mice.
Zable died that night, but the mare survived. It turns out she was even pregnant with his foal. So we had to keep her, even though it meant I had to get rid of my eventer, Dandy.
I don't care how well I knew Zable, but all I know is that now, he's all better.

Zable and Magi had survived on love and hope alone. The vet said that they basically kept each other alive for a long time. So I want to thank Zable for giving me such a wonderful mare, and Magi for making me realize how important and fragile, but still tough, life is.
Sadly, the foal that Magi had was stillborn, but she is currently raising an orphaned Clydesdale colt, named after the colt that made it all possible: Zable's Hope.
Update as of 6.11.06 - We have recieved pictures of healthy Zable and Magi together in a pasture when they were both young ^^ It looks like Zable was about two years old, and Magi three, so this was probably taken about a year and a half to three years ago. They were so cute together... and Zable looks oh so happy.
