Installation

Here is an overly-simplified step-by-step installation procedure for Avbar:
  1. Download the xpi file here: http://www.gaiacast.com/labs/avbar/avbar1.0.1.xpi
  2. Select 'Open With' and press 'Ok' to have the program auto-install.
  3. Wait until the 'Install Now' button can be pressed, then press it.
  4. Restart Firefox.

Congratulations! Avbar has now been successfully installed.


User Guide

Once Avbar has been installed, you should see "GaiaOnline Avbar" added to your Tools menu; to open Avbar, all you need to do is click this link.

Holding Alt + T to open the Tools menu and then pressing A also works on some computers and saves the need to browse the menus.

If you want a faster way of accessing Avbar, read on.


Creating an Avbar button on your toolbar.
  1. Go to View > Toolbars > Customize
  2. Drag the 'GaiaOnline Avbar' icon to your bookmarks toolbar.
  3. Position the Avbar icon somewhere you are happy with it.
  4. Click 'Done'.

You now have a button on your toolbar that will open Avbar whenever clicked!

Logging in to Avbar
Logging into Avbar is exactly the same as logging into Gaia itself; just put your username (or usernumber, if you're one of the few who remembers theirs) into the 'Username' box and your password into the 'Password' box. Finally, click the 'Login' button to access your inventory. Logging in to Avbar automatically logs you into Gaia and logging into Gaia automatically logs you into Avbar. 3nodding

There are no plans to introduce a 'Remember Me' feature for Avbar, so it will be necessary to log in to Avbar each time that you start Firefox. Don't worry, though; unless you log out of Gaia or Avbar, you will stay logged in.

User Interface
And now, the moment of truth; Avbar's actual user interface, pictured to the right. It's pretty simplistic, to my mind, but the main features are listed below:
  • Logout Button:
    Clicking this button will log you out of Avbar and Gaia.
  • Gaia Gold:
    This shows you the amount of gold that you had when you first opened Avbar; closing and re-opening it (or just attempting to re-open it) will refresh this figure.
  • Your Inventory:
    Your inventory works in a very similar way to your inventory on Gaia, though there is no way to sit, stand or rotate.
  • Gaians on-line:
    This displays the number of Gaians online when you first opened Avbar; closing and re-opening it (or just attempting to re-open it) will refresh this figure.
  • GST Bar:
    The bar across the bottom, showing a moon in the screenshot, lets you know what time it is in GST.

Please note that I did not create this interface and as such cannot make changes to this section of the program; I cannot make any promises regarding availability of new poses in the future.











Troubleshooting

    I restarted Firefox, but it still says I need to restart Firefox!
    Are you sure you restarted Firefox? It's possible that you actually had a window open but you were unaware of it. Make sure all of Firefox is closed and try again.

    The installation failed!
    Are you sure that you have Firefox 1.5? Avbar is only compatible with versions 1.5 and up. You can get Firefox 1.5 here.

    Opening Avbar does nothing! I followed your guide and it didn't work!
    Are you running a pop-up blocker? Certain pop-up blockers will block the Avbar window from opening. You can either disable your pop-up blocker, or not use Avbar. sweatdrop

    It's also possible that you have JavaScript disabled; JavaScript must be enabled in order for Avbar to work, as it's what calls the window to be opened.

    The Avbar window has opened, but it's blank / I can't sign in / the interface won't work properly.
    If any of these problems occur, you should clear your cache and restart Firefox. If the problem persists, it may be that Gaia itself is experiencing some difficulties.

Plus if you happen to be shopping you can see if you already have the item you're looking at without having to open another tab. <3 I always get sidetracked when opening new tabs. *suffers from Gaia ADD*
