Okay here's one I've been meaning to put up for maybe the past year or so. Himura Kenshin (Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X) VS. Captain American (Marvel Comic Superhero). Both are iconic (and fictitious) men of their respective countries.

Himura Kenshin was known as the Hitokiri Battousai during the Bakumatsu the strongest of the Imperialist army. Like a demon, he slashed men, and with his bloody sword he opened the gates to the new age of the Meiji era.

Captain America A.K.A (Private Steve Rogers) enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. A sickly man from birth, he was offer the Super-Soldier Serum and as a result would become America's champion during the war and years beyond.

Its also interesting how they both seemingly "vanished" so-to-speak for some time:

Quote:
As the chaos subsided and came to an end, the Hitokiri Battousai vanished from the people's sight.
Later he would resurface a Rurouni (Wandering Samurai) with his sakabatou (reversed-blade sword) and oath to never kill again.

Quote:
During the war, Captain America served as both a symbol of freedom and America's most effective special operative. Then, during the final days of the war, he was trying to stop a bomb-loaded drone-plane launched by Nazi technician Baron Heinrich Zemo when the plane exploded, killing his partner Bucky; and throwing him unhurt into icy Arctic waters. The Super-Soldier formula prevented crystallization of Captain America's bodily fluid, allowing him to enter a state of suspended animation. Decades later, he was rescued by the newly-formed Avengers and became a cornerstone of the team. His might undiminished. Captain America remains a symbol of liberty and justice.

HIMURA KENSHIN/HITOKIRI BATTOUSAI:
The Hiten Mitsurugi ( Flying Heaven's Honorable Sword Flow) sword skill involves speed and agility. Each technique is classified into five different categories.

The first part is called Ran-Geki-Jutsu, this means to attack sequentially at once. Moves that belong to Ran-Geki-Jutsu are:

1)Ryu-Kan-Sen (Dragon Wind Up Flash) : A technique used once one has gotten beside an opponent, it involves a very powerful swing with the twist of your whole body, inflicting a direct blow under the skull. One example of Kenshin performing a Ryu-Kan-Sen is during his fight with Saito Hajime where he became Battousai! If it where not a Reverse Edged Sword, Saito would have lost his head receiving a blow like that!!!

2)Do-Ryu-Sen (Ground Dragon Flash): A technique that involves striking the ground by the sword, because of the powerful force, the ground will explode toward the opponent.

3)Ryu-Sou-Sen (Dragon Double Flash): The one he used against Sanosuke on there first encounter. This involves multiple slashes to its opponent, without giving the opponent the chance for a counter attack. It is effective in dealing with those who will not get knocked out with one move.

The second part is called Totsu-Shin-Jutsu, it means to attack immediately and just wield the sword once. Skills of this part are:

1)Ryu-Tsui-Sen (Dragon Mallot Flash) : This move is like a Dragon diving into its opponent from the sky and hammering by using its weight.

2)Ryu-Kan-Sen Tsumuji (Dragon Wind Up Flash Hair-spin): Ryu-Kan-Sen-Tsumuji is another variety of Ryu-Kan-Sen. It begins by dashing into an opponent without gravity and at a tremendous speed. After getting into position beside your opponent, a Ryu-Kan-Sen will be performed. The damage is more powerful than Ryu-Kan-Sen, due to its speed. However, landing poses a problem due to its speed.

3)Ryu-Sho-Sen (Dragon Rising Flash) : This move is like a dragon that lifts up into the air with the blade of the sword attacking its opponent's vital points with the force of its jump.

The third part is called Battou-Jutsu (Sword Skill), Battou - an instant sword draw. Jutsu - technique. In a stance form and waiting for an opponent with the correct timing, a powerful swing with the twist of waist. It is the skill to attack by drawing the sword. The names of the skills in this part are:

1)Hi-Ryu-Sen (Flying Dragon Flash): This move may be accomplished using the left hand only (as in the fight with Raijyuuta). As you twist your body around, the sword is sprung from the sheath with the left hand coupled with the centrifugal force, so the key here is to aim the hilt of the sword at your opponent's weak point, like between the eyes.

2)Sou-Ryu-Sen (Paired Dragon Flash): Sou-Ryu-Sen is one of the variaties of Battou-Jutsu. Sou-Ryu-Sen contains double attack with the sword and the sheath. It is best used when the sword is blocked then without moment of waste, the second Battou-Jutsu using the sheath will strike the opponent. If I'm not wrong, Kenshin invented this move while fighting with Kurogasa. Sou-Ryu-Sen Igazuchi Igazuchi=Thunder

The fourth part is Noutou-Jutsu also known as a sword-sheathing technique. The opposite of Battou-Jutsu. As of now I have discovered only one move under this technique, and that is:

1)Ryu-Mei-Sen (Dragon Crying Flash) A reverse-turn of godspeed Battou-Jutsu. You might call it godspeed Noutou-Jutsu. Just like the cry of a dragon, the high-pitched sound of the sheath's reverberations strike the opponent's heightened senses and paralyze him/her.

The fifth and the last part is the most important and powerful skill in which the master can be killed while passing on this skill to the student Ouki Ama-Kakeru-Ryu-No-Hirameki (Heaven's Soaring Dragon Flash): The succession technique. The secret of the Ama-Kakeru-Ryu-No-Hirameki is revealed by Soujirou after his last fight with Kenshin. Normally, when using the Battou-Jutsu, the right leg is placed in front of the left leg so to avoid cutting your own leg (since the sword is at the left side). However, at the very last moment of attack, Kenshin placed his LEFT leg in front of his RIGHT leg before drawing his sword, thus bringing the speed and might of the sword to its very maximum. At that very moment, he must calculate the MOMENT of attack and how to twist his body properly in order not to cut himself. To do this, he must possess a strong desire to live. Ouki=profoundness

Before passing on the above skill to Kenshin, Hiko Seijuurou showed another skill to Kenshin: Ku-Zu-Ryu-Sen (Nine Headed Dragon Flash): This is a move that was taught before the succession technique. It is to wield he sword nine times from nine different directions at once and strike all nine vital points all instantly. Because of that, it is impossible to dodge or to defend this certain move. According to Hiko, since this move is completely impossible to be avoided or blocked, the only way to break it is by making one's move before one's opponent uses the 9 Headed Dragon Flash, i.e. by using a Battou-Jutsu which surpasses the "God-like Speed". In each generation heritage of Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, the master is always killed by the student (the next inheritor) after passing on the most powerful skill.

STEVE ROGERS/CAPTAIN AMERICA
Abilities
Captain America has mastered the martial arts of American-style boxing and judo, and has combined these disciplines with his own unique hand-to-hand style of combat. He has also shown skill and knowledge of a number of other martial arts. He engages in a daily regimen of rigorous exercise (including aerobics, weight lifting, gymnastics, and simulated combat) to keep himself in peak condition. Captain America is one of the finest human combatants Earth has ever known.
Weapons
Captain America's only weapon is his shield, a concave disk 2.5 feet in diameter, weighing 12 pounds. It is made of a unique Vibranium-Adamantium alloy that has never been duplicated. The Shield was cast by American metallurgist Dr. Myron MacLain, who was contracted by the U.S. government to create an impenetrable substance to use for tanks during World War II. During his experiments, MacLain combined Vibranium with an Adamantium-steel alloy he was working with and created the disc-shaped shield. MacLain was never able to duplicate the process due to his inability identify a still unknown factor that played a role in it. The shield was awarded to Captain America by the government several months after the beginning of his career.
The shield has great aerodynamic properties: it is able to slice through the air with minimal wind resistance and deflection of path. Its great overall resilience, combined with its natural concentric stiffness, enables it to rebound from objects with minimal loss of angular momentum. It is virtually indestructible: it is resistant to penetration, temperature extremes, and the entire electromagnetic spectrum of radiation. The only way it can be damaged in any way is by tampering with its molecular bonding.

Limitations: Captain America is subject to all human vulnerabilities, although his immunity to diseases is extraordinary.

Powers
Captain America represents the pinnacle of human physical perfection, although he is somewhat enhanced. He can lift a sum greater than 1100 lbs and has been known to lift closer to 5+ tons under optimal conditions.Captain America has a very high intelligence as well as agility, strength, speed, endurance, and reaction time superior to any Olympic athlete who ever competed. The Super-Soldier formula that he has metabolized has enhanced all of his bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency. Most notably, his body eliminates the excessive build-up of fatigue-producing poisons in his muscles, granting him phenomenal endurance.

Kenshin is certainly cool, but Captain America has super powers. As good a swordsman Kenshin is, his sword is no match for super-strength and invulnerability.

Since when? At one point, yeah, but not anymore. All Captain America is, is an upper level human with an indestructible SHIELD.

Shameless Conversationalist

The Captain of course. Because you and the Captain make it happen.

Of course!
This is actually pretty interesting. While Kenshin clearly has the advantage in speed and reaction times, Cap may equal him in physical strength and outclasses him in endurance. As far as weapons are conserned, Cap has the definate advantage. His sheild is simply invulnerable to anything Kenshin (Or even SUPERMAN) could throw at it.

I generally am biased towards comic characters altogether, but Kenshin is someone who could give cap a run for his money.

I'd say first confrontation goes to Kenshin through sheer higher physical stats, and fighting with a style that Cap has never seen before. cap isn't really used to fighting anyone with a fighting style he's unfamiliar with, but I don't think Kenshin's style actually exists in the real world or the Marvel one. In terms of speed and reaction time Kenshin may actually stand a chance at tagging Spidey if he's battosia'd out. While Cap is by FAR the superior fighter, he can't handle that kind of gap when Kenshin is also a military man.

Second confrontation likely goes to Cap. He's VERY good, and there's a reason he's lived this long going against the largest threats Marvel has to offer. With a bit of experience in Kenshin's fighting style, he's likely to win.
Even though I would vote for Kenshin-san but Captain America... with the powers and all... you better get my drift.

Not quite. Captain America is BETTER that the best in every single feild. He's more Agile than the earth's most agile man, Faster than the fastest sprinter, ect. He's also trained in nearly Every fighting style Marvel Earth has to offer. And his endurance IS superhuman. After two hours of intensive exersice his pulse is that of an average man at rest. I'm not sure if he even gets tired...

That's actually what I meant. He's the peak of human... everything. No human can match him (at least in that Universe) but he isn't superhuman per se.

Thanks for the "interesting" thing. I tried to think of a American Comics VS Japanese Comics thread that would be well...interesting.

Cap doesnt have "powers" persay. Nothing that if counts as powers Kenshin's abilites wouldn't also.
Cap decapitates him with a well - placed shield throw.
