FAQ:
This isn't the medium I've seen you use before.
No, it's not. Which is why this is an auction! I'm usually a CG artist, but lately I've had a lot of friends express interest in getting pencil art from me, rather than CG. Pencil is easier for me, especially on the wrist, and because of this, I can do more styles with it. I've decided to try my pencil art here on Gaia with this auction.
Some of your samples are on lined paper.
Well, yes. I have this really, really bad habit of not wasting good paper on a really lame sketch. However, sometimes my lamest sketches turn out far better than I thought, and so I end up using them are reference examples. As a result, some of my samples ARE on lined paper. Simply put, they were just experiments that turned out really good. I've tried removing the lines from them, but because of my shading, it usually damages the picture pretty severely to do so, so I try to just keep them from interfering too much with the image itself.
This is traditional art. Trad art looks worse on the screen than it does in real life.
An unfortunate circumstance. I'd contemplated a way around it, and I've realized now what I'm going to do about it. The winner, if they desire, can have the original piece shipped to them. THIS IS NOT NECESSARY in any way. If you do not want to give out your address to someone online, that's cool. It's an added feature, and I'm only mentioning it here, and to the winner when they win. It's not a big deal to me, but if it is to you, I want to best facilitate your desire on it.
Since this IS traditional art, what's your scanner like?
I will be looking into trying to scan the picture at a business that does so, instead of using the home scanner that all my samples were scanned with. As you can see... my scanner doesn't much like me. In it's defense, it's more than 6 years old, and it has been a cat bed for a while. I know that as a result, things scanned on it will not be true to their real value. Because of this, I will notify the winner that they have the choice of having the picture mailed to them, or having me scan it at some place like the local copying shop.
Why an auction?
Well, you see, I'm rather poor. My join date and my actual wealth are somewhat at odds. In truth, I own relatively few expensive items - what few I have I bought because I knew I would always wear them, or that they would incorporate themselves into almost any outfit for my avatar. So with the exception of the lab coat I worked very hard for, what you see is pretty much the good stuff I own. I'm a pretty poor 2003 user. =( Well, what matters isn't what you have, but who you are, right? Well, I just would LOVE to have some more money so that I didn't have to frown every month when I try to see if I have enough to buy sealeds. As it is, I don't like begging for money, and I don't like asking my friends for it, which keeps me from effectively questing. I see nothing wrong with it, but personally, I just can't see what makes me worth another person's charity. I envy the really good questers...
Why "Nessun Dorma?"
Well, you see, I'm a fan of classical music, and this one aria of Turandot's is one I particularly like. To be honest, I prefer the opera La Wally, but that just wouldn't make half as good of a title for an auction! Also, I'm a computer science major, and caffiene is a part of my life. My car is a mountain dew graveyard in between cleans. So, "no one sleeps" might be a good title for me personally. xD I really just liked the way the words sound, though, personally. I find italian to be a very interesting language. I particularly like italian swear words, but that's another story.
