Been a year since what happened on Miranda. Word got to the people of the Aligned Planets 'bout the creation of the Reavers, which caused minor riots to break loose, 'specially near the Core planets. 'Course the Alliance stomped those out thoroughly, gaining mistrust of the people. People didn't want a repeat of what happened on Miranda, didn't want no more Reavers being made, or even something worse. Didn't like the idea of the Alliance conditioning them into something they didn't know or want to be. So the Alliance stepped on eggshells with the people, swore that they wouldn't try somethin' like that again. I mean, lookit them Reavers. Why would the Alliance want to create something like those, or worse?

'Course, them feds aren't well known for keepin' their promises, now are they?

'verse I; This is a Literate Advanced roleplay. Meaning that posts should be at least 3-4 paragraphs long. I don't care if you have a writers block, just used description. Describe the surroundings, your characters feelings and such. It also means that you know your grammar well enough. That you can use capitalization, punctuation, complete sentences, and can spell correctly.

'verse II; Please use small writing. Between sizes 9 and 11 are good. It just looks neater, and it doesn't stretch the page horribly.

'verse III; Don't godmode or powerplay. Just...don't. It's just not nice and I will send you into Reaver territory if you fail to comply.

'verse IV; All out of character conversation should be posted on the OOC thread [here]. Do not post here unless roleplaying.

'verse V; All profiles should be posted in the OOC thread. I don't want any PM's. Gaia tends to eat my inbox, or my lack of sleep proves highly dangerous to things in my inbox.

'verse VI; Do not post on this board until I have accepted you. Anyone who fails to do that will be put on zeh Blacklist, which I have unfortunately had to create.

'verse VII; No netspeak, chatspeak, 1337 is to be used at all. That's the point of being 'literate' dears.

'verse VIII; Swearing is allowed though it tends to be in the Firefly 'verse terms like rutting, gorram, and humped. The terms and definitions are listed in the lexicon.

'verse IX; Romance is good and well, so long as it doesn't reach blinding graphic description. Keep in terms of the Gaian TOS.

'verse X; Violence is great. Shooting is a big part of this roleplay, as well as other forms of violence.

'verse XI; More rules may be added as I think of them.

Here are the character profile sheets. They seem rather simple enough, since the character is already made. Simple enough as it is, the characters already have given statistics, like their age, hair color, name and the like. So, to get it down correctly, I'm going to give you the information on the next post, so you don't have to guess wildly. I'm not sure if the ages are completely correct, because I'm taking them from a timeline that I found.

Serenity Crew

Basics

Other: A scar that runs from the tip of her shoulder across her back and down to a side but it seems oddly carved into her flesh like someone did it to her.

Details

Hobbies: Well there's no much time for such pleasurable things as hobbies as it's hard work to be an assassin like Rayne. Though she can be occasionally spotted in a bar or relaxing with a few workouts from time to time. Other than that there's not much she does. She's not the most intelligent so books and the like don't appeal to her as much as kicking a slab of meat or human depending on which she gets her hands on.
Talents: As an assassin there is the knowledge of combat and how to sneak around unnoticed by others around her. She can practically make any object into a weapon if she sees fit. Although intellect is not her strong point she seems to have an interesting view on life and the people that flock to their slaughter like slaughter like sheep.
Personality: Seductive at times as that is her way. Looks are as deadly as any weapon , other than that she is quiet a quiet person as that was the way she was trained. Curiosity is her downfall as she usually wishes to learn more, almost child like.

Her troubled childhood tend to give her a more dark side. Not as crazy as a certain Tam but one that seems to take over from time to time. She'll talk about her childhood as if it was taking place in front of her eyes but only at a whisper, so none others could hear. She speaks only phrases or words of it.

Thanks to this past of hers she tends to be unsure of new people as she has been fooled in the past and trust is not a thing she possess. Though it seems she trusts a closed few who are not what they seem.
History: Rayne is your typical class A assassin with a reputation as ruthless as her blade. It wasn't too long ago that she encountered the Serenity crew during a mission that ended up interfering with one of their "jobs". The mission was a simple, clean-cut...unknown smuggling operation, with one or more associates wanting the other transformed into dead weight, so to speak with using a hired assassin on one side and a bodyguard plus, on the other.

This was her first encounter with the crew and probably not the last. That day was the only time she never completed. This infuriated her. Some time along her life it had been buried in her head that she had to complete the mission no matter what. It could mean your life but you had to do what you could.

As a result of her failure there is a price on the assassin's head. Many are of dislike of her as she has destroyed families in her path and they wish to take revenge. Her falling out with her clients meant they spread of her assassin life, so where ever she goes she is chased out by vengeance hungry men, women and even children.

A glossary of sorts. I'll just refer some of the most basic and most common phrases used here.

Atmo
- Foreshortening of the word 'atmosphere'.

Black, The
- Outer space or perhaps deep space, beyond planetary orbit.

Browncoats
- Referring to the 'Independents' or rebels against the Alliance, likely in reference to their military uniform.

Companion
- An academy-schooled prostitute practicing legally as part of The Guild, a socially powerful pseudo-religious organization. Companions are highly respected by almost everyone. Their schooling is long and arduous and covers everything from psychology to sword fighting. They can converse with anyone, and make anyone utterly at ease, from a dirt poor farmer to a planetary president. They live by the Guild code and only engage in transactions with customers of their choice.

Core
- Refers to any major city/planet in the Alliance.

Cortex
- The visual/textual Interactive Network of the 26th century.

Credit
- A type of currency. Alliance-based, with no 'solid' component, and used to the exclusion of all else for legitimate transactions on all core worlds. I.e.: all standard transactions on the Core worlds are electronic in nature -- no one can physically hand you a credit. Per unit, a credit is worth more than any other type of currency.

Gorram
- Expletive, AKA 'god damn', used to express extreme displeasure, anger, or surprise.

Humped
- Expletive (depending on the context).

Ident Card
- Alliance identification card carrying personal information in electronic format -- useful for scanning purposes.

Independents
- Political/military party opposed to the Alliance. See also: Brown Coats and the Unification War.

Kick
- Slang. To die. (As in "kick the bucket".)

Mei-mei
- Little sister. Used for sister in blood or sister in spirit.

Oh-two
- Oxygen.

Platinum
- A type of hard currency, typically used on border worlds and for most clandestine dealings. For the purposes of conversion, a credit (see above) converts to platinum on approximately a 4:1 ratio, and a platinum coin converts to paper scrip (1 "dollar" wink at approximately 10:1. (1 credit = 4 platinum = 40 bills).

Purple Belly
- An Alliance soldier or officer. The Alliance's official colors include purple and are used on the abdomen (belly) of Alliance troop body armor.

Reavers
- Space pirates with a twist -- the twist being they're insane, torture their captives, and practice cannibalism and self-mutilation.

Rutting
- Expletive. Mating or 'to mate'.

Shiny
- Slang. 'Good', 'great', 'neat', 'wonderful', etc.

Shuffle
- Slang. To die. ("Shuffle off this mortal coil..." wink

Sly
- Male and homosexually inclined. (May also apply to women who fancy women.)

U-Day
- Short for 'Unification Day'; the holiday celebrating the Alliance's defeat of the Independents.

'verse
- Slang, short for 'universe'.

Wave
- Audio-visual transmission sent over the Cortex. Full waves (audio and visual) are generally only available within major Alliance systems. Once a ship has left a major system (or is traveling in a system too unimportant to have a Cortex beacon), the send must resort to more primitive means of communication.
