March 28, 2006 - Closed - Justice! is closing. Shall be reopened in the future, maybe. I've asked people, and they're not THAT terribly interested in roleplaying as superheroes. I only know about five people who think this is a great idea that they would like to do. I'll probably make a new thread in the fall, with updated stuff and hopefully it'll be more fun. I'm not terribly fond of essay-prompt-auction, too. smile Oh, and hopefully I'll improve, drawing-wise! Other than those things, you might've noticed that I haven't been on Gaia very often. It is harder and harder for me to come online as AP tests and finals approach, not to mention Ty and I have our own personal projects that we are finally putting into action. Luckily Aekaeva kind of runs itself-- but starting up a new shop like this takes a lot of time before it "autoruns." ::siiiiigh:: It was fun while it lasted, though. I'm sorry for all the trouble!

March 25, 2006 - Relaunch - Final bases are finished, and added a thing to the FAQ. I forgot to mention that you can pay for your character with items, but you need to use High Lucky Devil prices. The new auction date is up, and the prompt has been changed. I really, really, really need bumpers.

March 22, 2006 - Revamp + Postpone - Obviously with so many changes flying everywhere, this wasn't thought out that well. (It actually was a mad-rush to get this all up before some major school testing, so...) So I'm redoing the base ("Finally!" wink for the rookies. It's now much perkier and looks a tad younger. Hopefully you guys will like it. They're going to be colored differently, too. Same badge-base, though, since that's very functional and looks quite neato. Auction has been postponed to an unknown date. Probably a week-and-a-half from now, since I still need to publicize a bit more. crying I still want essay entries, though! :3 Here's the new base in action:

March 20, 2006 - Links? + Free Bump & Page Art - Not really an update... but more of a "LINK-TRADE WITH US! PLEASE~?" I also shortened the title of the thread to "JUSTICE!" March 19, 2006 - Gallery + Dates Fixed! - A gallery was added, because my sister, Ty, felt that London isn't a very good picture to showcase what kind of art you'll get. We'll see~! I'm thinking about doing crisp, sharp inking with Painter rather than the fuzzy lineart from Photoshop. Personally, I also think crisp inking looks better-- but quite a few people think my photoshop inking is more suited for this. Eh. There's still quite a few days before the auction even ends. I'm sure I'll decide in a few more days. I also fixed the problem with the dates. Sorry about that!

RULES+FAQ+HELP


RULES

o1. RP at least once a week. It needs to be at least 1000 words. Don't worry, this will be easy to fill since your mentor will take you training at least once a week. If you can not RP that week, PM "x bart x" about it. If you don't RP for a week, I'll give you a strike. After three strikes, your character will be expelled from the school. If you want to return, you better give me a good explanation for your absence.
o2. In the game, report to the school nurse every two weeks. This is linked with the first rule. At the end of every two weeks, you must write a journal entry about getting a check-up at the nurse's office. Think of this as a "save slot," because in the journal entry you need to jot down how many hours you "trained" (how much your RPed), how much you've grown (RPed in the training rooms enough for another skill point), what events you went to, and anything else you think is important. I need you to do this so that if I make a mistake in the records, you can just show me your journal entry and I'll know "oh hey, you DID attend that event." No lying in your entries. smile
o3. Be nice. Don't beat up someone else's character, don't spam, don't be vulgar and gross-- so on. Use your logic and think "is this acceptable?"
o4. Bump the thread and advertise. The more people, the more fun it'll be! This isn't really a RULE, it's just something that I would really enjoy you to do.
o5. Harass me about small art mistakes. If it's something small like "his hair parts more like THIS," don't tell me about it until he has a stage change. I can't edit every little thing to make it exactly like how you envisioned. When he has a stage change, just bump me because I'm about to draw him again. If it's a BIG THING I MISSED like "my character only has one eye!" or "he's a red panda, not a fox," then feel free to tell me about that.
o6. Chat in the thread. The more I get to know you, the more likely it is for me to approve your entry. Because yanno, then I'll know that you're a nice person and not some scary creep.
o7. Make friends. This is a team RP, so making friends with your team would be a very good idea. If by some freak accident you're on a team with someone that you HATE, tell me and I'll move you to a different team.
o8. Use proper English. RPing with someone who goes "lyke w0ah d00ds" is kind of annoying.
o9. Bold your bid and title your entry "Entry For Chien." It'll make it easier to see, and then I'll know that you read the rules. biggrin

FAQ

Is there a shorter name of this?
Yes, actually. The short-version of the The Academy of Justice is simply "Justice!" Yes, with the exclamation mark. xp For example: this is the Rules+FAQ+Help section of the Justice! thread.

Why is bidding and everything else so complicated?
This is to avoid people who are just buying to collect art. I also want to avoid having repeats for characters and I want to see if you can write. I do not want people to spend ten minutes deciphering your post.

AUGH CHIEN! Why is the starting bid so HIGH?
Pretty much the same answer as the first question. It's also to discourage ditching the game and whatnot. I mean like... who would spend a minimum of 75K just for art, and then never post? That's a huge amount of money to waste. Oh, and it's also because you get three pictures. I might do the pixel sprite thing that Ty and I have on Aekaeva, too. I'm not sure yet, since I need to find an artist to do that for me first. (I can also do it myself, but I would throw up and die).

Ooookay... so what would be a unique character?
I'm actually not sure. If I got an overwhelming amount of people who want dog-people or cat-people, I might use that to my advantage and make a team based on that. In fact, the model team for the game is called "Team Canis" and every member of it is a dog-person. Anyways, just avoid powers, personalities, and other things that might be called cliched. If I got three applicants of people who want power-house characters that can fly (Superman, Powergirl, Green Lantern Guy Gardner) then that will be a problem. I will then ask the three people if they want to try changing their characters a bit, like "can only fly by manipulating the wind, so if there's no wind... then they can't fly." Or so on.

How many and what kind of powers can I have?
For the question on how many: use your logic. Don't have a character that has super-strength, invulernability, super-speed, claws, telepathy, water-manipulation, and super-libido. That's overkill! One or two abilities should be enough, since you can only develop them selectively. You can have any kind of power, as long as it's not DUMB. Make sure it's a useful power, too. A dumb power would be like "the ability to wrap presents flawlessly!" A similar, but GOOD power would be "wraps people up in a dark cloak that transfers them to an alternate dimension of PAIN." Except that would be too powerful. Keep in mind that your character will start out as a rookie.

Can my abilities be like Batman/Robin/Huntress/Green Arrow/etc.?
YES. PLEASE. Not all of abilities need to be "powers," you can be like Batman and be a master of all kinds of martial arts. Or you can be like Robin III and be a super-skilled with a bo staff and acrobatic stunts. Green Arrow uses a bow and arrow-- you can do that too! Like I said, be creative. Your power can even be "really good at making gadgets out of scrap." Then you can be the tech-guy of the team that makes his own stun-guns or makes x-ray sunglasses.

Does "ninja/pirate/agent/cowboy" count as a power?
No. I would actually prefer to not have these things like "ninja/pirate/agent/cowboy/whatever," because that sets up lots of cliches. Not to mention a ninja in bright orange spandex sounds silly.

What can I be?
You can be anything humanoid. So you can be human, elfen, part-animal, and so on. If you're part animal, I'm going to draw you with only the ears and the tail, along with other small details to show what kind of animal you are. This is to keep things consistent. No extinct or mythological animals. Sorry about that! If I allowed it, I think we'll have like... ten unicorns and seven griffins. By the way, if you're a mermaid, nagra, or anything like that, you'll have to have a form where you have legs. Be creative and explain it as a curse or something. whee

Hey... this sounds like Legion/Green Lantern/etc.
I realize that. This RP is most strongly based off the Green Lantern Corps.

DC or Marvel?
At the moment, I'm going to say DC. Even with all the crazy Crisis stuff going on, I still prefer it and its Vertigo-titles. I only like a few select things from Marvel anyways.

Can I pick my costume?
No, because your costume is a uniform and needs to match everyone in your team. Everyone will wear the exact same costume when they're rookies. When they're trainees, then I'll customize it to fit your character's personalities.

Can I pick my codename?
If you have one in mind, sure. If you don't, I'll help you think of one.

I don't like my costume/codename! Can I change it?
Your costume is a uniform. Just pretend you're going to a private school with a really ugly uniform. You'll just have to deal with it. I doubt that you'll hate the costume, by the by. I'll make sure that they're cool looking. Your codename may be changed once if you feel that you absolutely can not live with the codename you have.

Do you watch Teen Titans on Cartoon Network?
I watched a little bit of it. Other than that... nope.

Why is the Rookie stage drawn on a base, while Trainee and Hero are custom-drawn?
Well, it'll take a while to get to Trainee... so I want to weed out all the people who do the bare minimum so they get the Rookie art and then they run away. This is also so I won't DIE from art overload, because everyone will become a Trainee at different times.

I turned into a Trainee a week ago! Where's my art?
I'm usually pretty fast when it comes to art, but if I have an exam or something... then you'll need to give me some time. If that happens, I'll make the new plaque for you right away with your Rookie picture on it. Just wait a while.

I want to be on the same team with my friend! We make a great pair.
Your friend will still have to bid on a seperate slot than you. PM "x bart x" to let me know so I can get you guys on the same team. Typically I'll make one team out of the five slots, but if a lot REEEEALLY good entries are there as the second top-bidder, then I can make two teams.

Is romance allowed?
Yes. Go ahead and date your teammates or someone from a different team.

Is slash allowed?
Yes, slash is allowed.

Can I have a relationship with a mentor?

Can they breed?

Prompt: Your character is at the beach.

Requirements: Minimum wordcount: 800. You need to flesh out your character. Maximum wordcount: 1500. I don't want to read a novel. All characters must be fourteen. When they become trainee, they look around sixteen-eighteen. As a hero, they'll look nineteen. Fill this out and put this at the top of your entry:

Tips: Think about these questions while you're writing. You don't have to answer them, but it might help make your entry interesting and stand-out. Is your character with friends or alone? Is he enjoying himself, or miserable? Is it night or day? Are the waves peaceful or violent? Is it clear out, or rainy? Maybe a storm? Why is your character at the beach? BACKSTORY


The newly created United Galaxies of Universe Delta-714091, stationed in the Bloom Galaxy on planet New Utopia, solemnly assessed the war-scarred planets within their alliances. The resources from the Big Five were not enough to control the mayhem of the six-hundred-ninety-four galaxies in their power.

Shifting uncomfortably in his seat, the head of the UGUD, resident of the Milkyway Galaxy, known as Don Howards, placed a shuddering hand to his brow as the six-hundred-ninety-three leaders mutedly shifted through their information packets. Centuries of warring were finally over due to the genius compromise made by Howards, but the lost territories and sacrifices did not please all of citizens of Delta-714091.

The dark conference room stirred as six-hundred-ninety-three heads looked up at a colorful group of metas sedating a wild, violent mob on the sun-baked planet of Linuania. A strong woman in a cloak descends upon the maniacal rioters. The shadow she casts pulls the people into a slump, as they all fell into a deep sleep. Meanwhile, a wirey Joined-- half man, half exotic, spotted feline-- races between the people and recovers injured innocents. Countless others peacefully break the chaos apart, and within minutes... all was silent.

Superheroes...!

A familiar man with a broad chin and twinkling eyes appears on the intergalactic television, using the emergency broadcast to spread his message to everyone in the Sandshore Galaxy:

"Citizens of Sandshore, do not fear. We are the Army of Justice, and we seek to restore peace to your quiet home. Wait for us."

He smiled and bowed gently.

Within one month, the entire Sandshore Galaxy's order was restored. In four more months, their economy was revived. The UGUD recorded every move of the Army of Justice. Word of this "army" quickly made its way through the Delta-714091 and people started to feel hope. As the army made progress, so did the UGUD as small galaxies were helped and restored, but they never did as much good as the Army.

The leader of the Sandshore Galaxy, Quixlac, told great stories to the other leaders: "They're helping plow the land on the poverty-stricken planet of Moar." "A seventy-year drought was ended by Aqueous." And finally, on a sweet, warm afternoon, Quixlac stumbled into the conference room: "They're leaving in a week."

Appearing to glow with new life, Howards strode over like and pressed a friendly hand against Quixlac's shoulder, "We must speak to them." Howards grinned, his strong charisma making a comeback, and everyone in the hall understood.

Forty-seven years after the merge of the United Galaxies of Universe Delta-714091 and Army of Justice-- creating the United Galaxies of Justice, there was calm in Delta-714091.

Cane tapping against the tile, Howards slowly hobbled to his chair at the head of the hall and nodded a greeting to Joseph Icarus, the Hero of Earth. It was a day of celebration for all of Delta-714091, but Howards thought it suiting to spend it on beautiful New Utopia. There was nowhere to go, anyways.

"So," he croaked, "we're done."

Icarus shook his head and continued to scan through the monitors, he stopped on a galaxy ruled by dictatorship outside of the UGJ. Sighing, he took a seat next to Howards and ran a hand through his youthful dark hair. "We're far from done."

"What is there to do? We have no control over the other systems."

"I know."

"It's not in our power."

Heavily, Icarus shook his head again and spoke with duty, "I can not leave the rest of the world to destroy each other. Not after... not after what happened to our homeworld."

"The majority of the human population was successfully evacuated before--"

"I know!" He slammed his fist against the marble table, crumbling the section upon impact.

Howards patiently waited for Icarus. The gold sunlight shone through the dust of the table, while the screams from the monitor echoed throughout the massive room. Several minutes passed, as Icarus stood still, facing the floor.

Gingerly getting up, Howards patted the hero on the back and closed the monitor.

Pained, Icarus sobbed, "Hate is the monster that creates such misery."

"Then we shall get rid of it," Howards breathed steadily as he climbed the stairs to the broadcast station, "A second army... People will hate us as the Universe's Police force." Howards chuckled softly, adjusted the lights, and set the countdown to ten seconds.

He sat down on a stool and held his cane in his lap.

Three... two... one...

"Hello, merry citizens of Delta-714091, on this day of celebration we savor the sweet taste of peace and fortune in our galaxy. After years of toil, hard-work, sacrifices, and deadly battle, we are now the most blessed Country of the universe.

"Unfortunately, we are the only Country of the universe that is at peace. Citizens, we call for your help to build a powerful new generation of heroes so that we may lead the other Countries to a beautiful future. Young metahumans of Delta-714091 who love their home and Country, please assist us."

The transmission ended, and immediately the phones and mailposts started to flash:

What I'll Pay You
You get a Hero character, which means it'll only have one stage. The Hero character will function just like a normal character. You just don't have to worry about levelling up or anything.

What I'll Pay Mentors
People who want to be Mentors get a Mentor character. Please only apply for a Mentor if you're able to RP a LOT.

Mentors will be and are just like Heroes, but they're working at the academy instead of being a student. Mentors will receive a team to "guide." The job of the mentor is the help the students gain their footing, help them develop their skills, and protect them on training quests. This is due to the fact that a student can't get hurt on in a training session at the training rooms. When they're out on the field on a training quest, they can actually get severely hurt. It is up to the mentor to make sure that the students are safe (or let that one snotty student get knocked out since he's not cooperating).

You can be a mentor and a staff member at the same time. If you want to be a staff member but do not want to RP, that's fine too.

How to Apply:
Do the prompt (since you'll be receiving a character) and tell me why you want to be part of the staff for this crazy game. biggrin There's no deadline. Apply any time.
