When a human reaches the age of fifteen on the island of Dinotopia, they are now ready to find their dinosaur companion at the Hatchery. Not all humans choose to do this right away, however - some wait until they are older. Because of the responsibilities involved with having a dinosaur companion, though, fifteen is the youngest age. But whether you come from the nearby Treetown, from the far off Canyon City, or perhaps you are from someplace else entirely and have been shipwrecked here - all will make the trek to the Hatchery.

The Hatchery itself is located on the far northwest side of the island. It is a massive building built of wood. There are doors on the side of over forty feet in height, along with smaller doors for humans (and smaller dinosaurs) to pass through. The inside of the Hatchery consists of many rooms - the lower floor has a nesting room, a resting chamber, and an incubation room (that is kept at about 101 degrees Fahrenheit). The second story has a human sleeping chamber, living and dining areas, a guest quarters, and a signal tower. The beds for both human and dinosaurs are round and nest shaped, filled with pillows and blankets. Because larger quadrupeds are unable to sit down, there are large, couch shaped structures (without armrests or the back of the couch) for them to lower themselves onto to allow them to rest.

After you have chosen an egg from the incubation room, you may not leave with it quite yet. An egg cannot be taken from the Hatchery until it has hatched. When that time comes, it is very important that the first thing the baby dinosaur sees is it's mother! Otherwise, it is possible they might mistake another dinosaur (or human) as it's mother, and it will be very hard to train them otherwise. Once the baby has spent some time with it's mother, it is now time for you to meet your new dinosaur companion! Whether you choose to take your companion home with you at that time, or stay in the Hatchery while your companion grows a bit more, is up to you. The mother would very much appreciate it if you told them where their baby will be living from then on, though, so that they may visit their child!

Congratulations! You are now paired off with a dinosaur.

Breathe deep, seek peace.

01. Do not beg for any pets! Watch the thread to see when the next flatsale/auction/raffle/etc. is, and try to get one then.
02. Pets are not role-play required.
03. Unless you are Antigra, I don't want any offers to be a guest colorist right now.
04. Do not steal anything in this shop! It doesn't belong to you.
05. Do not sell or re-sell anything in this shop, even if it's your own pet.

01. Absolutely no god-modding, ever.
02. Never role-play someone else's character. Ever. Even if you have their permission, I am not going to allow this. Sorry.
03. Dinotopia is an island of peace. Therefor, I would like physical fights to be kept to a minimum. This does not mean they can never happen - but I do not want to see it happening often.
04. I am aware some of the dinosaurs are carnivores. But this is also fantasy and is for fun. Please stick to the Dinotopian diet.
05. Any problems you have with a role-player must be dealt with outside the role-play and outside this shop and guild. I don't want to see any drama.
06. If there is role-play going on in the main thread, please be courteous and put brackets around your posts if you are not RPing.
07. When role-playing your human character (if you choose to do so), the human must be 100% human. There are no shape shifters, vampires, dryads, etc. on Dinotopia. All humans are just that; only human.
08. You may not role-play pets from other shops inside the Dinotopia guild or shop; sorry. They do not exist on Dinotopia.
09. If you choose to make a journal, please only make it in the main forum of the guild. The other subforums are for role-play only. Journals are completely optional.
10. Technology does not exist on Dinotopia. No cell phones, CD players, DVD players, cars, video games, TVs, watches, house phones, etc. There is no electricity. Everything is done by hand; there are no factories or industrial zones. If your human character was not born on Dinotopia, any electronic belongings they may have had no longer work. There are small shops and bakeries and blacksmiths. Things are very old fashioned on Dinotopia.
11. If your human character was not born on Dinotopia, the only way for them to get to Dinotopia is either by way of ship wreck or plane crash (they can also wash up on shore of Dinotopia by help of the dolphins). Planes will never crash into any of the cities and towns, because I said so. Also, once your character is on Dinotopia, it is impossible to get off the island. All attempts to get off the island will fail. There is a constant, never ending storm surrounding Dinotopia, so any plane the tries to get to - or fly off of - Dinotopia, will crash. The storm also hinders boats and ships, making it impossible to sail to or sail away from the island.

Q: Hey! So-and-so dinosaur is supposed to have feathers!
A: Yep, probably. However, I made a decision when I commissioned the lineart. This shop is based on the Dinotopia books, and the dinosaurs in the illustrated books do not have feathers. So I decided these dinosaurs won't, either.

Q: How many dinosaurs can I own?
A: As many as you like! There is no limit.

Q: Will you donate to me!?
A: No.

Q: Can I have a pet for free!?
A: No.

Q: Are you hiring!?
A: No.

Q: How come you don't have a Tyrannosaurus Rex? Will you ever offer one?
A: Tyrannosaurus Rex will never be offered as a pet here. They are considered "uncivilized" dinosaurs, as they refuse to work with humans and continue to consume meat. They cannot speak any human languages. Tyrannosaurus Rex are not completely feral, however; they will sometimes make deals with other dinosaurs, allowing them (along with their human companions) to pass through their territories unharmed... if they are given something in return - preferably a nice amount of fish.

Q: So what does common, uncommon, and rare mean?
A: Common dinosaurs are easy to come by. They will be available in flatsales, raffles, auctions, special events, etc. Uncommon dinosaurs are a little harder to get. They may occasionally appear in a flatsale. Each uncommon species will only ever be offered at least once a month, if at all. Rare dinosaurs will never be seen in flatsales or free events and each rare species will only be offered every two months or more.

Common
Brachiosaurus: The brachiosaurus is a massive herbivore, weighing up to eighty tons, and growing up to around seventy-five feet in height. They have thick legs, with their front legs being longer than their back legs. Because of their immense weight, it is unsafe for them to wander too far into deep waters, as their feet are likely to either be sucked under into the mud, or they would slip and injure themselves. Their size also helps against predators such as the Tyrannosaurus Rex; even though they don't have any defence, their size makes them very difficult to bring down - especially in herds.

Common
Gallimimus: One of the smaller species of dinosaurs at seventeen feet in length, this omnivore is a fast runner. The gallimimus weighs about nine-hundred-seventy pounds. It is also very intelligent. They are fast runners, able to reach speeds of around twenty five miles per hour. They have a long snout with a flat end, large eyes, and long, toothless jaws.

Common
Stegosaurus: This herbivore has a beak at the front of it's mouth to chop up plants. They do not have any teeth in the front of their mouth - instead, they use their teeth in the back of their mouth to grind up the plants. The stegosaurus weighs over two tons and is up to twenty to twenty-four feet in length. It's back legs are longer than it's front legs, therefor making them slow runners. However, the plates on their back and spikes on the end of their tail make good protection against predators.

Parasurolophus: The parasurolophus is an herbivore that grows up to around thirty five feet in length and fifteen feet in height, weighing up to around three tons. The unique looking crest atop its head is almost six feet in length once it is full grown. The crest is a hollow tube that is connected to the nostrils and the back of the throat, and is used to create loud, honking-like sounds to call out to others that can be heard for miles. The parasurolophus usually walks on all fours, however, it can stand on it's hind legs to reach leaves in tall trees, to defend itself, or for running, using it's long tail for balance.

Occasionally, there will be a flatsale for a handful of pre-colored dinosaurs starting at their egg/basket stage (previews will also be posted). They will cost 5,000g each, or one Sealed Letter. It will be a speed sale, and therefor will be first come, first serve. Most of the time there will be a flatsale notification a week or so before it happens, but keep an eye out... you never know if there might be a surprise one!

01. Do not try to buy a flatsale dinosaur until I say "GO" in large, green text.
02. If you will not be online for the flatsale, you may get someone else to post for you. However, I expect payment within 24 hours or I will re-sell the dinosaur.
03. After all the dinosaurs have been claimed, I will post a list of the winners. You must then send a trade to Dinotopia, and PM Dinotopia a name and gender for the dinosaur you won.
04. You can only buy one dinosaur per flatsale. That means if you are claiming a dinosaur for someone else, you may not claim one for yourself.
05. Co-owning is not allowed for flatsale dinosaurs.
06. Please don't be a sore loser if you don't win. There will be other chances!
07. You may not edit your post when trying to claim a dinosaur during a flatsale. If you do this, you will not be allowed to buy any!
08. When claiming a dinosaur, please post the ID number! This makes it a lot easier on me.

Every now and then, there might be an auction for a rare dinosaur (or for a custom!). They will usually run for a week or two. The starting bid for auctions will usually be 5,000g, and the minimum increment is 1,000g.

01. You are allowed to co-own for auctioned dinosaurs.
02. 100% of the payment is expected within 24 hours of the auction's end.
03. Please don't be a sore loser if you don't win. There will be other chances!
04. There will be a twelve hour snipe guard at the end of the auction. If a new bid is placed within the last five minutes of the auction, the snipe guard will begin.
05. Only bid with what you have!
06. Do not discuss your funds outside of PMs. This will discourage others from bidding.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Raffles will usually take place for special occasions. Tickets will cost 100g each and there will be an unlimited amount. Raffle tickets will be sold for a few days (up to one week). Once ticket sales are over and all trades are confirmed, Gaia's Random Number Generator will be used to pick the winner.

01. No, you may not say which ticket numbers you want.
02. Please don't be a sore loser if you don't win. There will be other chances!
03. Co-owning is not allowed for raffle dinosaurs.
04. Payment is expected immediately and there will be no refunds.

Arctium longus is a unique plant that can only be found on the island of Dinotopia. Consuming this plant in a tea form will allow Dinotopians - human and dinosaurs alike - live for up to nearly 250 years! The purple flowers of this plant are often used in medicinal healing. It has recently been discovered that mixing A. longus with other various plants and ingredients can cause different effects when consumed by dinosaurs.

When a dinosaur reaches it's adult stage, they are now able to breed with other dinosaurs! You don't have to role-play in order to breed your companions; breeding is open to anyone who has an adult dinosaur. Different species of dinosaurs are able to breed with each other, and dinosaurs of the same gender can also "breed" by having a surrogate mother (no need to find one, this information is here for RP purposes).

Each breeding is guaranteed to produce at least two eggs, with a chance of three total. However, each owner can only keep one egg (or give it away/auction it off)! If a third is made, you may either give it away to someone, or have it auctioned off. If you decide to auction off an egg, you will get 50% of the profits, while the other 50% goes to the shop. Breeding dinosaurs of two different species will produce one of each species (at least). After dinosaurs breed, they must wait one month before they are able to breed again to give them time to recover!

Common Dinosaur: 5,000g each
Uncommon Dinosaur: 8,000g each
Rare Dinosaur: 11,000g each

So, for example, if you wanted to breed a Utahraptor with a Stegosaurus, the total would be 17,000g, because the Utahraptor is rare (12k) and the Stegosaurus is common (5k).

It is up to you and the owner of the dinosaur you are breeding with how you split the cost. Some people like going in 50/50, and some like to just pay for their own part. However, I only expect one trade, so have the person you are breeding a dinosaur with send you the gold.

If slots are open, please use the following form when claiming slots and post them in the thread. Slots are first come, first serve in order of posting. After I've confirmed you got a slot, please send a trade to Dinotopia with the proper gold amount.

Diet:
All the humans and dinosaurs (be they herbivores, omnivores, or carnivores) stick to the same diet - they are all vegetarians. Meals consist of juices, berries, vegetables, fruits and nuts. Meat is not part of a civilized Dinotopian diet, except for fish for the carnivores. The "uncivilized" dinosaurs, such as Tyrannosaurus Rex, will eat any kind of meat.

Stages - Egg/Basket: Lasts one week or less.
Your dinosaur will need careful attention while he or she is in this stage of their life. They must be kept very warm and protected from the outside world, as they are very delicate! Keep your companion with you at all times during this stage.

Stages - Baby/Child: Lasts two to three weeks.
As a baby, your dinosaur companion cannot take care of itself. It will need a lot of love and care in order to grow up healthy. Baby dinosaurs cannot walk immediately after hatching (or climbing out of their basket), and so will need to be taught. It may take a few days for them to get used to it, and even then, their steps will be unsure. As for communication, baby dinosaurs cannot read or speak. They will also need to be taught. Because of this, it is important for your companion to be in contact with other dinosaurs often, so they will learn on their own how to communicate with other dinosaurs. As for speaking the human language, that is something you will need to teach them.

Stages - Teen: Lasts three to four weeks.
Congratulations! You are now the companion of a rambunctious young teen. Your companion should be able to communicate with dinosaurs and read without any problems now. Human speech may be a little more difficult, but they should be able to get their point across well enough. In this stage of their life, dinosaurs are prone to acting just like a human teenager; and perhaps even a little rebellious. As a teenager, it is time for them to start helping out their human companion with daily work, and learning about their human companion's job if they have one. Also, while they are not quite mature enough to breed, teen dinosaurs will begin to notice other dinosaurs of the opposite gender (or, while uncommon; the same gender, if that's how their tastes run).

Stages - Adult: Final stage.
An adult dinosaur can speak to both dinosaurs and humans without problems. They can take care of themselves and have reached the peak of their maturity. This is the time when your dinosaur companion may start looking for a mate (although some are perfectly happy to stay single).

I do indeed accept pet trades (when there are open slots). I love good quality wolf and dog pets, especially custom ones. I like to collect wolf/dog pets based on my original character. However, I will accept other pet trades as well. So just because you don't have a wolf pet shop doesn't mean I won't trade with you! I like all kinds of animals. Keep in mind that I do not want any RP required pets. Sorry.

So here is the deal. I will offer common pets for common pets, rares for rares, custom adults for custom adult, custom growing for custom growing, etc. I think you get the idea. Each pet traded will take up one slot. So if you want to trade two pets for two dinosaurs, that will take up two slots. I may offer more than one dinosaur for higher quality pets, too. I cannot offer lineart edits at this time. So, if there is an open slot, and if you're interested, please PM Dinotopia with your offer!
