If you posted a WIP in the thread prior to midnight Eastern US October 17th (Pg 624 -cutoff post), then you may submit your final piece on the 24th, 9PM Eastern US. Otherwise your artwork is due on the 22nd Midnight Eastern US.

Posting in list format for easy reference:

Introduction
Hello all welcome to to Aree, Faerierain, and Ebony Dragons's art contest. This promises to be one really big art contest with three magical hosts willing to share their long amassed gaia horde of treasures. We each for our own reasons wanted to host an art contest but then decided it would be more fun to pool our resources and host it together.

We are looking to have fun, meet new artists , and of course get some really nice art. In return we will be giving out various prizes ranging from rare donation items to pure gold. Each host is has their own horde of prizes to give so please check each one's prize section. Without further ado we welcome you to depict our world of Faeries and Dragons.

+Submission Rules

The contest starts on 21st February 2006 and ends on 17th October 2006 22nd October 2006.


WIPs have to be posted at least 5 days before contest ends. All finished entries must be submitted no later than 5 2 days after end of contest. The award ceremony should occur about 2 weeks after the closing is closed, so we have enough time to judge all entries. Please use the following form when submitting a piece of work :

- All entries must include at least one of Aree OR Faerierain OR Ebony Dragon's characters. See each section for specifics.

- All artwork submitted must be an original work by you (see below for collaboration rules) and specifically created for this contest, which means you can't :
  • Submit a previously-drawn picture (this include recycling an old image with a character that may bear ressemblance with one of the above mentionned characters)
  • Evidence of tracing or art theft will lead to immediate disqualification.

- Each entry is eligible to win one prize only. But in case a entry is qualified as 'best' for several categories, then priority will be given to the higher price it could win. And of course, each artist has the possibility to win multiple prizes if they enter multiple pieces.

- Collaborations are allowed however they are limited to a team of two and should their work win, the price will be split between the 2 artists.

- No usage of copyrighted material manipulated or otherwise are allowed (i.e for instance using a photo found on Google for the background, whether it is altered ot not). For 3D art, the image must be your own render or sculpture.

- Each category must have at least 5 entries for the prize to be awarded. Although the number can be less at the end of the contest, per judge's discretion.

- Always credit and provide a link in the entry form for pixel art/dolls if you haven't created the base. It must follow the artist usage rules as well.

- No hentai picture, but we are fine with blood/violence. However you have to PM us your entry if it is PG-13+.

The Characters

Aree is a half Elven and half Sidhe Character. She is 5 feet tall and has a slim build. (This means no bazooka boobs please. She can be curvy just not super endowed like missles wink ) Often depicted with spiky flipped red hair. Her eyes are tricolored golden with flecks of green and red. Other characteristics to note is that she has two dove wings that sprout from the side of her head. This is because she is bonded to a Dove Lir. A mysterious golden circlet floats above her head similar to a halo. She also has characteristic pointy ears of the Elven race and has the fair shining skin of the Sidhe. As the Elven Sidhe she can be depicted as either a noble lady or a fierece warrior. When depicting her as a warrior she is slim elven build so no bulging muscles. The symbol or sigil of her elven house is the Phoenix as such she can take on the characteristics of a Phoenix so she can be depicted with either fairy wings or feathery wings.
Weapons she uses as a warrior:
A medieval style warhammer with a Phoenix theme. This means one end is blunt and the other is pointy. It doesn't look like a mallot or Thor's hammer
An ornate elven bow decorated with protective elven runes or symbols. No crossbows

Asian style Phoenix is her family symbol.

Mu-yan is a powerful mage. She has an Asian look to her. She has long dark ebony hair often worn in an elaborate style. She has a small pudgy golden pet dragon named Dracul whom she dotes on. She is also a shapeshifter so she can be depicted as a mermaid. She cross dresses through a variety of asian styles so feel free to mix Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Filipino, and Vietnamese for example. She has golden light brown almond shaped eyes and looks very aristocratic. Often has an expression of disdain on her face.
Weapons she uses :
Asian style athane dagger or a sword with a red gem on it
She mainly relies on magic so depicting her in a magical setting and as mage is more appropriate than as a warrior

Lachlan is a mysterious halfdragon half elven character. He has long flowing silver hair and elaborate colorful markings, often called the Pearl Dragon because he has beautiful pearlescent skin. He can be portrayed with or without his makings because he can hide them through glamour. He has long curved horns on the side his head and emerald green eyes. His wings are golden and green draconic wings that spring from his back. Please note that he has tripointed draconic ears not straight elven. He's quite the ladies man but for couple pictures and the backstory he is paired of with Aree. Note Aree's not outwardly fond of him. He likes wearing manly yet ornate clothing so feel free to make him bishy but not girly.

To be eligble for the main prizes on my section the art must include Aree. Lachlan and Mu-yan may be depicted on their own. Others characters are mentioned for group shots and couple shots to provide variety and choice. If I find a numerous entries of artwork of me with my Sugar Fairies I may add this as a separate category.

Please avoid submitting Aree with excessive nudity or hentai situations

~ Faerierain is just about as sweet and innocent as a girl can get ... she is often seen happy and very rarely sad.
~ She has many things to love about her life .. and so she spends her time trying to spread her happiness to her friends and all of those around her!
~ Some may even find her sickenly sweet at times.. lol

~ She loves pastel colors .. and absolutely loves pale pale pinks, blues and lavander colors.
~ She also loves butterflies, teddy bears, hearts, sparkles and beautiful falling cherry tree petals from a elegant tree, and she loves to be drawn with any of those surroundings!

Ok, Ebony Dragon is a quite complex character, different versions of her exist in various alternate worlds. In some of them, the Ebonys share more or less the same characteristics, and in others her look or situation can be pretty different. In most worlds though, a great part of her capacities are either dormant or 'locked', in some she can use magic or a few specific superpowers, in other she cannot, etc. The hybrid form is usually the form she adopts in fantasy settings.

However, for now I'm not going to go too much into details, I'm simply interested in getting art for one of these alternate personalities, know as the Daydream Hunter, which is able to travel from one world to an another. I'm also adding a few other alternative outfits to add some variety :3

Setting
Fantasy - Ebony is a loner that don't like dwelling in towns, unless her jobs or quest require so. She usually prefers inhabited or isolated areas and also likes perching on lofty places. Rocky mountains or desert, forest/jungle, sea (lagoon, cliff, reef) are the best choices for sceneries if you do backgrounds.

On Gaia, she is the Sugar Fairies Shop keeper and therefore you can picture her that way too and draw her with her fairies, Aqualea or Aree.

Costume Creation

Ebony might be a fantasy character but please don't draw her as the warrior women clad in bikinis and busting over their top fantasy pinups you can find sometimes in heroic fantasy genre @@;;; A little cleavage or short clothes are fine, as long as it looks natural not thrashy.

In case you really prefer to draw Ebony with a outfit designed by you, here are some guidelines. The whole thing is pretty detailed but if you are observant, it's fairly easy to see what type of costume are 'in character' + I have put in red the most important features if you don't feel like reading all descriptions.

Also feel free to draw any of the three sample outfits featured here for the contest, in case you prefer them to the mercenary one.

Notes

All entries for my section need to include at least Ebony Dragon to be eligible for prices, with one exception : Aqualea, who can be drawn on her own. Others are minor characters I'm adding for variety.

Regarding multi-character pics (whether with my own characters or Aree/Faerierain), Ebony should be only drawn in her mercenary outfit. Because her other forms being from totally different settings, it wouldn't make any sense ^^; Sizewise, Aqualea is taller than Ebony and the Fairies are about 15-17cm tall.

Also while I do enjoy artistic liberties, I like accuracy too and I will judge on it... For Ebony especially, here are a few mistakes that need to be avoided :
- Skin is brown (not tanned, and certainly not fair)
- Horns : The number of rings and the color have their importance, so please comply with them.
- Sexiness/Nudity >>> to be avoided, it would more than likely be out of character...

Small changes on the outfit, the hairstyle, the jewellery or the weapons are fine.

Q: Can I submit more than one entry ?
A: Sure, however entries will be judged on effort and skill. Quality will be taken into consideration before quantity. Special consideration will be given for submitting multiple entries of quality though.

Q: Do I have to host my picture ?
A: If you have issues to host your work, Aree will host them for you, just let her know.

Q: What media can I use ?
A: Digital art, real media, 3D art, any is fine. We will also accept written entries for poems and songs lyrics, but not fictions.

Q: What are you going to do with the finished pictures?
A: All artwork submitted will be considered as commissions, regardless the entry has won a prize or not. We reserve the right to resize, crop, or otherwise make simple/non-artistic edits (sig usage for instance), however we will never claim your work as our own and will give you credit for your work.
