((Yay!))
I was laying on my back in a field, chewing on a little piece of grass and staring at the sky. It was a peaceful day, with the clouds scudding through the azure sky. I'd finished all my work for the day and there was nothing to do but just kick back and relax...
I was bored. Really, really bored. I cursed under my breath, spat out the grass and stood up, smoothing out my skirts. I headed off in a direction, any direction. I needed something to DO!!
After a while, I came to a rocky outcrop. It looked craggy, and perilous... Just right for a climb, I decided, and smiled evilly as I started to scale it. Okay, so it wasn't that high, but it was crumbly and there wasn't anything soft on the ground below to break my fall. I reached an overhang and looked down. Damn it, I was only 6 feet off the ground and already my damn fear of heights was getting the better of me. I really should have thought of that first.
I stuck my hand on the top of the overhang. I'd sit on it for a while, get my breath back, maybe climb back down again... I moved my hand to get better purchase and knocked something pink and shiny off. As it flashed past, I realised it was an egg. I stuck my hand down to catch it and managed to knock it off course... Nothing for it. I let go, fell and landed on my back on the ground with the egg clasped to my chest. I lay there for a while, wincing at the bruises that were doubtless developing, but at least the little egg was safe.

I had kept my egg in a little nest under my bed, made of dirty laundry... It wasn't the best but it'd have to do. I'd left it there for a week, going back to the outcrop every day just to see if it was missed. It didn't seem like there was anybody else to take care of it when it hatched...
A week later, the pink glossy shell started to crack while I was sleeping, and I woke up to find a small, pink-haired toddler sitting on my chest. He'd found some clothes somewhere... Yep, in my laundry pile... And was staring intently at me.
"Hello, I'm Crimson," he lisped.
"How do you know?"
"It says it right here!" He held up a... personal item... I'd wrapped round the egg to keep it warm by one of the straps and, sure enough, it said Crimson on the label.
"What's your last name, Hand Wash Only?" Oh well, he seemed to like it. I found it a little strange that he could already read and speak, not to mention that he'd hatched from an egg and already appeared to be a lot more than a few hours old.

2 or 3 years passed, with Crimson growing at much faster than the usual rate. He was already a 'teenager', and as such was also very mouthy and sure of himself. Still, we'd become good friends and he did acknowledge that I'd cared for him when there was no one else.
We were walking through the town one day, when a stranger came up to us. "You," he pointed at Crimson, "You are not a normal human boy."
"Well, duh, I'm only 3 years old!" he replied, rolling his eyes.
The stranger laughed, and looked straight at Crimson. "You'll know what I mean. Take a look at this." He handed him a map. "This is not just any map, it shows you the important locations for other like you."
Crimson took it. "OK, uh, thanks, but I still don't see what this has to do with anything. Hey, dude, come back here!"
But the stranger had already got onto a horse and left.
"Well, I guess we've got an adventure on our hands!" He grinned and took me by the arm. "Hey, c'mon, let's go!" I shook my head. I liked it here in my little village, now that I had someone to hang around with. I was a little scared by the prospect of leaving. "Aaaw, please! It's so boring here!"
The tone of his voice reminded me of the first time I found his egg... I'd been thinking the exact same thing, and something good had happened. What made me think this time would be any different? "Alright. But we're gonna go pack and say goodbye to everyone first, OK?"
A few hours later, we were out on the road. This was gonna be great!
