Everyone loves the Gaian plushies! The kitties are adorable and the Yeti is so squishable! However, I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I'm personally a dog lover. That, And I think our plushies could use some more color other than a monochromatic theme.

So, I put my pixel skills to the test, and created a Kiki/Coco hack plushie of a little Beagle I named "Pochi".

Why a beagle? Well, they are a simply colored dog, and one of my personal favorite breeds.
What does "Pochi" mean? Pochi basically means "Poochie". I just know it's a popular name for pet dogs in Japan kinda like how most americans would name their dogs "Max" or "Spot". Also it seemed to fit well with the name theme that the other plushies follow: Kiki, Coco, Yeti thus Pochi.

exclaim I have seen that the new donation item for March 2006 is indeed a Puppy. Now whether or not this new item was the result of this petition, I have no idea, however, Aside from the obvious similarities in the names: Mochi/Pochi, a few details of this pup has caught my attention. This was the first one that caught my attention. Kinda similar to my "Loyal Companion" hack. Now, granted, Gaia has alot of "hold 'em's" in their items, so I'm not really blaming this to be related to my petition. Mochi is facing forward, while Pochi faces away.

THIS one was the one that really caught my eye. Way too similar to my "Puppy Love", aside from the fact that my models are not holding the puppy with their arms. Does this strike anyone else the same?

Gaia also described his name wrong: Mochi The Puppy: This little puppy is as sweet as the icecream he's named after.
Mochi is a Japanese name for a sweet bean filled rice pastry, not an icecream. Heh, I should know. wink
Also, the only big difference is that this Mochi puppy is a REAL puppy and not a Plushie.

Now I don't hate this puppy. In fact I find the little guy cute and I use him in my Avi right now. I'm glad to see that Gaia has incorperated a puppy as their new item of the month. Also, with as many folks who have requested from me a Corgi hack, I'm glad to see their wish was fulfilled by Gaia as well. However, if my idea has contributed to the creation of this item, I would like to at least be notified that they liked the idea enough to incorperate it into Gaia. *Sigh*
This Pochi Petition was started bach in Jan. of 2006, and I'm going to keep it open for signatures. Mochi has not defeated me or my ambitions for this plushie idea of mine. So please keep showing your support! 4laugh

Heh, I'll keep that in mind. I'll see if I can make a balance for the other leg then. It'll be hard because the way the sprite is sitting, the far leg of the avatar would block him out. I may just have to make a whole other Leg Humping sprite for the opposite leg. We'll see! cool

But might I make a suggestion? Not everyone likes beagles, hell, I don't really like beagles, so perhaps the dog should be abit more like the CoCo/KiKi, just in the respect that they aren't really a specific breed, ya know? Having One type of dog plushie might not appeal to the masses, after all.

That is an interesting suggestion. The trouble of designing a "generic mutt", so to speak, is that it is hard for it not to resemble specific breeds. Pochi was mostly just modeled after a Beagle color scheme because I wanted to add a hint of color. I guess I could mix up a few color ideas, but Gaia seems to follow a black/white/greys solid scheme with their plushies. The snowman thing was the most colorful that I've seen. Is there a specific Breed type you had in mind? Feel free to PM me with suggestions! wink

I have considered this same idea when I started the design. The main reason I didn't do it was because I didn't want to copy too many things that was already done by the Kiki/Coco/Yeti plushes. And the biting of the leg, well, the Leg Hump is the official "leg warmer" so there really is no need for another. But thanks for the idea!

That would be cute, but the problem would be having to incorperate a seperate plushie and I don't think the Gaian Staff will comprimise "giving away" a free Kiki/Coco graphic for the sake of one Plushie. sweatdrop

cool idea but i think some of the colors on the poochie are a bit off and saturated (including that the edges within the image aren't anti-aliased) compared to the kiki kitty's underside.

Well, I did what I could with what pixel resources I have. I guess it can't be considered "Perfect" but this graphic is just a prototype after all. I'm sure if the Gaian staff were to impliment this idea, then they would make their own graphic improvements/adjustments to make it a true Gaian Item. 3nodding

With as successful as this one prototype has been, perhaps I will design some other breeds when I have the free time. It can be very time consuming, but the option is always open! mrgreen

Yeah, I was thinking he could use more posing as well, but I didn't just want to follow the ways of the kitties. I'm looking for other means of posing the pup to make him more unique, but who knows what might turn up. wink

That is a good point. That's probably where my biggest flaw is in this little idea. I guess while in towns, the Lap Dog graphic won't be seen because everyone enters into Towns facing forward and standing regardless of how you saved your avatar. And the Mad Dog might have the same problem since he sits at your feet. Maybe I'll just have to think up more ways of posing the little guy. idea

i think it there should be a postion wher the dog is like hanging on to the back of your head and hes little claws are out i dont know but i like the idea of him hanging on to the avi with hes nails out

Well, that would be a bit difficult to hack, also considering that puppies and dogs don't have retractable claws. I just wanted to have the plushie resemble a regular puppy. cool

Well, I haven't contacted anyone yet, since I'm dealing with other Gaia problems with donations and gift credits. But I'll keep this in mind for the time being. Just gotta get through one problem at a time.
