A~E Magnolia: Backstory

About a two and a half years ago the Alpha through Epsilon corporation made a purchase of Magnolia island. Promptly they built a large scale research facility and general production factory. A~E Magnolia provided a great number of jobs to the general Barton area.

Two weeks ago it was declared a disaster zone. There was a massive explosion in the main building which prompted an evacuation of the island. More than half of the workers simply disappeared.

The bridge access to the island was barricaded, and what actually happened on the island was kept secret. The families of the disappeared were massively compensated - paid off as some would argue. Aerial fly bys of the island reveal nothing, same with general scans. The only crews that seem to go to the island anymore are A~E investigation crews. Or at least the only people that come back with something fruitful, or at all. Independent groups have ventured onto the island to find nothing, or simply not return.

The secret though doesn't involve an experiment gone wrong. It involves something with much worse intents.

A~E Magnolia: Layout

The island is fairly small and close to shore. The main entrance is the bridge, now outfitted with sliding barricades. There are other ways on though, boat or helicopter being popular amongst investigative journalists. There's a small matinance dock near where the bridge meets the island. Or you could simply try and strong-arm your way through the barricades.

After you pass the welcoming "A~E Magnolia" sign, the first part of the island is the residential area. It was a cookie cutter suburban paradise designed for workers, researches and their families to live. It's a bizarre sight seeing these houses empty and suspended in the moment of household humdrum before the evacuation.

A wall separates the residential area from the more hilled area to the back of the island. This is where the research centres, as well as the main building, are built. Even though the gates are still cracked open and the wall is not that difficult to scale, this is where people run into problems. People have a tendency not to come back if they enter one of the buildings.
Those buildings are exactly what you would expect from research centres. Multi roomed, sterile and painfully dull. The one advantage to them is they have underground access to the other buildings.

Then there is the main building. Built into the side of the islands largest hill, the building serves both as a main research centre and a factory. In true A~E style there are multiple subbasements to house more delicate experiments.
These subbasements are protected by reenforced steel, concrete and solid engineering, as well as the island itself. Needless to say the only way to get to these basements is through the main building. A group of investigators attempted to hire a mage to help them get in, but soon discovered there was some sort of field being generated from the lowest basement. It was disrupting both technological scan and magic ones... Teleporting was not an option either.

arrow The Forgotten Disease: At this point Alpha through Epsilon neither denies or supports the claims that "an unknown disease" was released after the explosion.

As players discover more about A~E Magnolia more will be added here.

If you think a shadelord is doing something they can't PM Joseph Brown or Themightyjello. We know shade physics better than anyone.

People Magnolia has Pissed off

Shadelords are a group who stir up trouble. The good sports will enjoy some good RP and maybe get involved with the plot.

Those that whine and moan... Go here for my amusment.

you cannot disreguard the rules of a thread because of something in a sticky...
It was a bizarre sight, a lone cycloptic figure standing on a stage before a group of other figures. The figure looked like a man in black armour, only instead of a face it had one large red eye. The stage wasn't really a stage though. It was pile of rubble piled together to make the figures soap box.

Its audience were a crowd of similar figures, all jet black with single eyes. They varied in size and build though and were all paying attention.

There was twelve of them, thirteen if you counted the one on the stage. Fifteen if you counted the two standing off to the sides of the main group.

"We have been given a second chance shadelords," The figure with the red eye began, "After our failure in the grand battle our master punished the absent shadelord with a voice and awareness. Somehow that punishment began to spread to each individual one of us. We are all now cursed with awareness, no longer in the blissful state of servitude we were before."

"But with this curse we are granted our second chance," Its tone was booming and its one eye was blazing, "We can use our new found intelligence to serve our master! Our master is weakened from the grand battle, but we are strong still. We can collect the keys that would lead to our masters revival!"

"A champion, a pure sacrifice and an infinite amount of energy created from mortal souls."

"Make haste and discover where we can find these. But be careful, we do not want our hiding place found before we are ready. This is why you must do whatever it takes to succeed. Kill any mortal, capture any soul, destroy any lives.

"That is all." The black armoured figure truly believed it was still in charge... But only time would tell what the other shadelords would decide.

((This is not meant to be responded too, it is simply the shadelord player's starting pistol.

With that said... Go.))

"Geeheeheehee..."

The sound of the Shadelord's laugh echoed in the empty halls of the third floor as Rho stared intently through a shattered window with its single, large, green eye. Rho had no other identifying features than this, a single eye in the center of where its face would be if it were a man, and a smooth, humanoid, jet black body.

Outside the building the glass was still falling, in a moment the diseased body of one of the former technitians in the factory would hit the ground three stories below with a sound that betrayed the frailty of his own bones. But for now, Rho was just content to watch as its toy fell gracefully through the air.

The eye contorted slightly as the corpse landed and the shattered glass rained down atop it, almost as if the putrid green eye itself was grinning at the sight of this. Rho shifted to the right a bit, walking like an insect across the ceiling of the hallway as it stayed in the shadow of the wall, avoiding the sunlight coming in through the windows. Rho bothered to expose its eye to the light only because it wanted to stare for longer at the broken body below it...

"Gehehee... Rho. Rho. Ghehehe... Rho."

The Shadelord reached out of the window with one of its limbs, which quickly twisted and reshaped itself into a long, black tendril which shot down the outside of the building and pierced the chest of the technitian that lay still upon the pavement. With one heavy backwards jerk, the tendril whipped the body up into the air, throwing it higher even than the third story that it had fallen from before... and then released. The corpse twisted and flipped like a rag doll tossed into the air, and then began to fall again.

Rho wanted to hear the sound that it would make this time.
Boats, flying? Swimming? Teleporting? No, Omega couldn't be bothered to use, or even think of such things. No. Omega had a much more easy route onto the island.

He picked out where Alpha would be, and walked in a straight line for the shadelord. Going underwater, walking among the fishies, walking up the other side, onto shore. Ploughing through buildings that he just couldn't be bothered to step around. Through the fence, leaving an Omega sized whole behind. He just kept moving straight towards where he felt Alpha, no matter what got in his way.

There was a lamp shade, on his head as a makeshift hat, and he was clutching to his chest, a small bag, the whole time during this straight little demolishion march.
Alpha was pacing in the courtyard, it was doing what it knew best: Planing, summoning and commanding. With the shadelords out and about it would not be long before someone found out the islands secret. Magnolia had to become defendable.
The shadelord began to clutch at the empty air in its hand. Alpha was concentrating, yes, summoning another minion. A puddle of dark matter formed a shot ways away, and slowly it formed a lesser shade. It was less than six feet and looked unarmoured humanoid with one red eye. Without any orders being given the lesser shade went off to work. It would join its newly summoned brothers as the workers and soldiers of Alpha's army... And the more souls that fed the twisted reactor in the subbasement, the more members the forgotten army gained.

It was beautiful in a way. An entire crew of cycloptic workers changing Magnolia from a place of science to a crude fortress... Speaking of crude fortresses, Omega was arriving.

"Report Omega," The Alpha shadelord turned to look at the gigantic being, "And explain the human items you have returned."
Omega dropped to one knee before Alpha, head bowed to him. The lampshade was falling forward, before his hand snatched up and grabbed at it.

"As... uh... the head talky guy related the orders, I have brought you the Lampshade and Pure Sugar..." he said, stumbling over teh words, very uncertain, as he held out his offering of a 5 lbs bag of pure sugar, from the label, now a bit soggy from his return trip, and the lampshade.

"And I will head out, kill Row, Signet, and Zi, as you desire."

Yeah, that was it, real smooth Omega. Remind him it was his orders, yes. That why you couldn't get in trouble if he got it wrong again. Yup, very smooth.
