Marlux: Lyra met Marlux when he caught her trying, and failing, to hawk something obviously defective. To this day she is not entirely sure how, but Marlux stepped in and managed to get both of them out with more money than she had originally bargained for. He is one of the very few who call her by any form of her middle name, or know her full name at all, though Lyra cannot return the honor to him. Like most of her acquaintances, Marlux goes by Marlux and refuses to tell anything more; how he learned her name in the first place is a mystery.
Personality: Blunt, surprisingly honest, friendly, and respectful. Rarely manipulative, but when he is, he does it very well.

Marlux runs a street-side pawn shop; his inventory ranges from test tubes to colorful pencil erasers to worn-down books, but he doesn't sell anything illegal or stolen. He does, however, help those who do.

Skaz: Lyra isn't part of a "guild" or the like, official or otherwise, but she does occasionally work with a few others like her. Skaz is one of them. Young, thin, and fast, she knows more about the tiny, intricate places one can climb and sneak through the city, which ones end up in dead ends, which are easiest to ambush, how they turn and twist and how wide any given section is. As a number of these passages are too filthy or narrow for Lyra to try except under dire circumstance, while Skaz is not a particularly good fighter or diplomat, they make a natural 'team.'

Dar: Ah yes, the costuming expert. He runs a children's shop off of an affluent street, but the backdoor leads to his far more profitable business of disguising thieves with more visible styles. Where Lyra prefers not to be seen at all, these two do not run into each other much.
