Scythe Zantara
Deep in the grassy, fertile valley of a land called Cheulii, a sacred stone was placed in a forest there by a nameless god to protect over the people of a nearby village. The god created guardian beasts to watch over the stone and the village. These creatures evoked fear into the hearts of foreign men so none would dare trespass on the land. The villagers called these sacred creatures Chevreal.
The Chevreal were powerful creatures that were as tall as horses, as swift as hares, had the scales of a dragon, and the long haired coat of a Persian cat. Their teeth were as sharp and numerous as what lay in a wolves’ jaws and they possessed an intelligence and sense of conciousness not often observed in the animals that inhabited the land.
The people of foreign tribes often tried to overcome the tiny village of Cheulii, but whenever they came close to its borders, the Chevreal attacked them. Cheulii village became one of flourishing vegetation, livestock, golden wheat and thriving orchards.
When foreign hunters who often caught their fare in the forest at the edge of Cheulii valley recognized the Chevreal’s attraction to the great stone, they reported their findings to their tribal leaders. The foreign leaders sent out their warriors to destroy the stone. The stone was chiseled away by hundreds of warriors and the Chevreal went mad with fury, attacking the warriors that had entered their domain. None of those warriors returned home.
Without the sacred stone that sealed the nameless god’s promise to protect the village, the people of Cheulii village were left vulnerable to enemy attack and their once fertile land became covered in snow. The remaining Cheulii villagers fled to other lands or were killed. With the Chevreals’ magical and physical powers having considerably decreased, the foreigners tried in vain to rid the land of them. It was only with time that the foreigners realize that the Chevreal were no longer the same fearsome beasts of ancient times.
