~Plot~

The world of the geisha is an interesting and beautiful place. A place where appearances are paramount; where women are trained to beguile the most powerful men; and where love is scorned as illusion.
Gion district, in Kyoto, Japan. It's spring time, and the sakura trees are fully in bloom. Kept from the outside world of modern day technology, geisha dwell within okiya, or geisha houses.
However, spring seems to attract the most customers at the okiya of Gion. Blossom watching, festivals and parties are held frequently, and are often in need of entertainment.
Out of the many okiya in Gion, four rather large ones seem to have the most power. These okiya are known as the Nitta Okiya, the Mizuki Okiya, Tachibana Okiya and the Kurosawa Okiya. Within each house, there are three or four geisha, plus the 'Mother' or owner and the servants.
With all the competition going around, which okiya will be the most sucessful?

~Geisha and Maiko Information~

exclaim Each ranks of Geisha wear different hairstyles. Girls training to be Geisha, ones that are not yet Maiko, wear wareshinobu. Mishidashi is worn on the day of a Maiko's debut. Most Maiko wear momoware (meaning 'split-peach') Ofuku is worn when the Maiko obtains her first danna. Yakko-Shimada is worn by Senior Maiko on New Years and Sakko is worn when the Maiko becomes a Geiko.
exclaim When a Maiko makes her debut, she is trained by a full-fledged Geisha. Usually, when they take on their Geisha name, it usually starts with the first syllabel of their 'Older-Sister's' Geisha name. (i.e; Hatsumomo, in Memoirs of a Geisha became Pumpkin's older sister, and thus, Pumpkin's Geisha name became Hatsumiyu.)
The courtyard of the Nitta okiya was completely empty . . . besides the one girl that had perched herself on the branches of a tree that stayed low to the ground. In her hands, she held a long guitar-like instrument, which she was playing softly with a polished wooden pick. She smiled warmly as the morning light lit up her long black hair, causing it to sparkle beautifully.
Kotori's brillant deep, dark eyes shone as they fluttered open as the sun peered through the small window in her room. Closing them again softly she began to doze off again wishing not to wake from that deep dreamless sleep that she had been longing for the past week. Hearing some outside she fiegned sleep which she was quite good at. Her breathing became soft and steady and her body motionless. Her dark and lustorius hair spread across the blanket; it was one of her best features. After he small deception of sleep she decided it time to get ready for the day for she couldn't be late.

After taking her time and preparing herself she suffled out the door with the small gracious steps required of a woman into the courtyard. "Good morning, Ashikawa-san," the young woman greeted stopping and bowing polietly to the her fellow companion in the house.
Mizumi looked up, stopping the pick in the middle of the shamisen strings. She smiled warmly, sliding off the branch of the tree, stepping carefully onto the stone path that lead out of the courtyard.
"You don't need to be so formal, Kotori-chan," she said. "You can call me by my first name. After all, we are both Maiko. We are both equal,"
Kotori's face lit with a soft and kind smile and she gave an equally soft laugh. "Hai, you are right, Mizumi-chan," she said a bit slowly testing out how to say her friends name. Lifting her hand up she adjusted a piece of a silky strand of hair that had fallen lose. After the quick fix she stepped foward slowly toward the girl. "Mi-chan you have been practicing hard," she spoke in a teasing manner.
Mizumi blushed slightly, giving a nod.
"Hai," she said quietly. "I want to be the best I can be. So my mother and father will be proud,"
She smiled faintly, striking the shamisen playfully with the pick, creating a soft wave of music.

Dapper Millionaire

Natsumi sat by herself in her room. She was watching her feet very closely. She glared at them. "Come now, feet. Please do not cause me to fall today." She continued to stare, then sighed and flopped down onto the mat. "Oh, this is no good." she looked out the open door and saw a bird. "Hello, bird-san!" she said quietly.
