Welcome to the first Extended signature Flash tutorial! In this tutorial, I'll explain in simple steps how to set up a flash file and put it into your Gaian extended profile. Because of the nature of this type of tutorial, I must warn you that it is NOT INTENDED FOR BEGINNERS, and will only be explained using one program. If you have any questions reguarding this tutorial, please post your question in this thread, and I will edit the tutorial to better fit your needs. Thank you.

NOTE: I am currently trying my best to work on other things at the very second, so if this tutorial doesn't get done anytime soon, I appologize. I will get around to finishing this, but not untill later.

< Read before proceeding! >

Because of the outstanding control in program, I will be using the program Macromedia Flash MX 2004 for this tutorial. You can download a copy of this program from Download.com (link) for 30 days before the demo licence expires. Because this tutorial is of a higher level, I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you familiarize yourself with this program and perhaps read some basics tutorials before continuing.

Because of the nature of this tutorial, and the possible issues that people may face, I request that any problems be posted in the thread. This will help to assist others who may be facing the same problem, and keep this thread somewhere where people can get to it without digging though the forums. Try to avoid PMing me with issues when possible, but should the need arise to, you may do so. Thank you.

When starting out on your copy of Flash MX 2004, you will presented with an option screen for flash document creation. To start out, you will need to select the "Flash Document" option under the "Create New" column.

Before you start thinking "OMG! LYKE IZ GUNA MAKE TEH HUGIST MOST AWSOMNESS MOVIE EVR!!11!1one!", you need to first realize that making a SWF flash file is not the easiest thing in the world, and that Gaia has some limitations on size. From what I have gathered, the current Gaia maximum size for SWF files is 320 x 240, and no file size limit has been announced. Additionally, flash files must follow the same copyright rules as your signature - so if you use someone else's image, you need to make sure you have permission, and give them credit.

At the bottom of the window you are now at, you will notice a toolbar simular to the one shown above. This toolbar is variable depending on the object selected, or in the instance of no selection, it is used for the document itself. The document toolbar (see above) has the following options that you can fool with: Size, Background, Frame rate, and Publish - For now, we look at the first three.

We need to size our document according to the Gaia standards, so you will need to click the button next to the "Size" label. A new dialog window will pop up with the fields "Dimentions", "Match", "Background color", "Frame rate", and "Ruler units" - Before you mess with anything here, LOOK TO MAKE SURE THE RULER UNITS IS SET IN PIXELS. I've been messed up several times because I forgot to change the units back from inches, so be careful. Once you have made sure that the ruler units are correct, place the number 320 in the first field (marked by the word "width" wink , and 240 in the second field (marked by the word "height" wink , then press "OK".

The background feature is the background color that your SWF document will have throughout the animation. I tend to use white because if I need another color, I can always use a box in the background on another layer. Upon clicking the box, you will be given a palette of colors to choose from - take a pick of whichever color you so choose. Just remember that the background remains persistent throughout the file, so select something you'll use often in the background.

Frame rate is entirely up to you. The more FPS, the smoother the move, but the larger your file and more frames you have to deal with. For this tutorial, I will be using 12 FPS - the default.
