I've had an idea running through my head for a while that would make an interesting breedables concept. I originally intended to just auction off the concept and some lineart, but right now I don't think anybody would be able to pull it off the same way I could. That is, if people actually like the idea.
Y'see, the theme behind this concept isn't really, um...for the Gaia crowd. It's not a cutesy magical adventure into a land of fairies and catboys. There are no OMG KAWAII BISHI LOL, no 'teh secks' gaysploitation characters, and to be honest, I'm not the most 'anime' of anime artists. But I'm only listing stereotypes here out of bitterness, don't mind me.

But I, and a lot of 'second-string' shop owners, sorta can't help being a little bitter when it comes to the B/C forum. It seems that there's an 'in crowd' of older members that rule the forum. They have all the big popular shops, and if they decide to make new ones they gain instant popularity as well. They autobuy each others' auctions and usually own all the expensive RP-intensive pets. They get all the attention because the newer members are all either kissing up to them to gain social status or groping lustfully at the pets they sell. When a relative nobody tries to start up a shop, nobody even gives so much as a post for good luck. They're nice people, I know this for a fact, but the way everybody else treats them can drive you crazy.
I have two shops. I like to think that the art in both are at least decent. The prices are reasonable. I don't have any enemies in the forum. And yet, in both, about 50% of the pets were given out for free to my friends in an attempt to make sure someone knew my shops existed. If this next idea is ignored like the others I've tried I'm just going to drop the whole thing, because it really sucks when people won't even look at you long enough to form an opinion of you.

ANGST ANGST ANGST. blaugh I'm done now. The actual idea (finally) is in the next post.

The main idea is that you adopt and roleplay human babies into adulthood through their careers. The interesting part is that these children come from a religious and ethnic minority called the Tribes of Rad, or Radicals. The Radicals are traditionally a nomadic people, but most have settled down into regular lifestyles like the rest of modern society. However, the Radical 'holy fortress,' a place north of Aekea called the Awesomepolis, maintains the traditional Radical faith. The shop is centered around the Awesomepolis.
The Radicals believe in a limitless, intangible creator force called the Max. It created the universe and a parthenon of gods and goddesses that rule over Earth. The Radicals believe that through their behavior they can perfect themselves and eventually become one with the Max, attaining godhood. To do so is not a matter of morals, and they have no heaven or hell, but instead one must have a certain attitude, which they call Radness. The Awesomepolis has a complex career system (like in an RPG) that allows its devoted people to attain Radness through their training. In essence, the goal of all fundamentalist Radicals is to become 'totally Rad to the Max.'

You heard me.

Now, while this is definitely going to be a big thing roleplay-wise, the theme is just plain ol' fun. Rad behavior is generally over-the-top coolness, and the possible careers include Ninja, Cowboy, Bear Wrestler, and Sexy Librarian. How you roleplay your Rad kids (known as Radlings) affects how you gain points in various personality types (right now I'm thinking Radness, Morality, and Sexiness, among other things), which gives them different career opportunities. When you spend enough time in a certain career you permanently recieve new abilities, and when you gain enough Rad points your character ascends into godhood.
The majority of Radlings will come from stock lineart. There are a few different sets of baby-child-teen lineart for both genders with different varieties of clothes and hair. People can pay extra for customs that have unique lineart as well. I may even allow people to convert their own characters to Radiclism, which essentially gets them avatar or OC art on a cert with roleplaying ability. Ascended Radicals, called Maxions, will get unique lineart and unique powers. There will also be chances to own the gods and goddesses that were created by the Max, called Maximals, which are completely unique and change only when the owner wants them to take on a new form. Radicals would not be RP-required, but unless you RP them they'll never go past the Teen stage.
I have a metaplot worked out that involves vampries and some Maximals, it should be thoroughly awesome.

Currently I have one art sample made:

This is stock lineart of a baby Radling, and the baby stage for my own NPC Maxion, Axol. As you can see, my coloring is not that great. I want to get a colorist to help out.

Now, I want a colorist who can be a partner, not an employee. I cannot offer large amounts of gold for this job. If anybody out there is reading this and thinking they can get a colorist job for fast cash, that isn't going to happen. As I said earlier, I don't always have the best of luck when it comes to Breedables. I want a colorist who honestly has faith in the idea who will be willing to help maintain the shop as an equal partner. This means that I also want a partner that I know I can trust. Not a stranger.
If possible, I may consider having a partner who colors AND does the lineart, allowing me to focus on roleplay and updating peoples journals and the like. Profits will be split 50/50.
Also noteworthy: I want someone whose drawing and coloring ability is better than my own.

Here's an example of my writing. This would be the intro to the shop, and establishes the look and feel of the Awesompolis.

Quote:
You have arrived at the gates of an imposing stone fortress north of Aekea, past the Gaian border. Why are you here? That's your call. The point is that you are here.
The impressive wall encompassing this strange place is enormous. Its pitch black stone is polished to a shine, and the many primary-colored lanterns that hang from it give it a brilliant kaleidoscopic look. The metal of the spikes that line the walltops and form the simplistic portcullis is painted up in red. The pathway leading up to the fortress is well kept and lined with meticulously-groomed rosebushes. Clearly, someone is putting loving care into this place. It is as beautiful as it is impenetrable. The gates are open. You may come and go as you please. You choose to venture inside.
Upon entering into the main courtyards you can see the residents in all their bizarre splendor. They are working dilligently, pruning and polishing and building and repairing. No wonder this place looks so immaculate. The people are adorned in garb just as colorful as their home. Heads are dyed and teased and shaved into patterns that bring to mind the crests of tropical birds. Faces, too, are painted up in colorful designs. Their clothes are made from simple cottons and wools, yet take on exotic colors and cuts. Don't these people worry that they may soil their finery with their landscaping? Apparently not. Many are positively caked with mud but do not seem to mind.
Following the main path inwards you come to the large, closed wooden door of the main building. A light tap on the painted, bejeweled door knocker reveals that it is quite well-oiled and swings wide open with ease. You find that the inside is much like the outside; a mix of elaborate finery and practical strength. The cold stone floor is decorated by long, plush red rugs that form pathways leading through the main room and off into the building's many corridors. Lanterns keep the room well lit in a wide range of colors. While the place certainly doesn't resemble the ye olde castles of legend, it has an undeniable sense of regality about it.
By the corner you quickly spot a young resident sweeping a bare area of floor half-heartedly, staring boredly into space. The child's flamboyant, foreign haircut masks its true gender. His (or her?) bright pink face paint clashes against a drab brown robe. The kid looks up at you, startled at the prescence of a newcomer.
"Hi, welcome," the child's accented voice is definitely female. She rests her broom against the wall and walks towards you with a smile. "I'm Mahdra. Welcome to the Awesompolis, are you here for the tour?"

I'm actually quite proud of it.

This seems like a nice Idea, good luck! ^^

I'm sure you already know this, but don't worry; small-time shops get their time in the light too. I've owned five shops since I first joined in January, and my current one is the only one to be successful. You get a good enough concept and people'll flock to it.

Wanna affiliate?

Neato! For coloring and stuffs, I've got examples on my DA account. (Click WWW button.)
That idea sounds really cool. xD OMG, I LOVE your job classes. Hah! Sexy librarian. x3

But yeah, it sounds like a cool idea, but I think it does miss something, something totally unique, the thing that will draw people to you. While I totally appreciate the classes and the Rad to the Max thing, it's still a bit normal.

It would be just like any other breedable concept, I think and therefor not raise the attention you want. In my opinion then.

Hmm. Personally (again, just me) I've always disliked playing anything beneath an 8 year old. xD Since, ya know, I just don't have the patience to deal with babies and toddlers and all. x3

Hum, yeah. So this is just my opinion and how I feel about it, others may like it, but I think you need to add something extra and unique. Currently I'm a bit out of ideas since it's nearly 9 am and my philosophy class is about to start aaaand I feel kind of dead despite the coffee. Hehehe. I'll be back later on to suggest some stuff.

*snigger* Sexy librarian. xD (Incidently, what kind of skills did you have in mind?)
It sounds really cool ^^ I'd look in on you every once in a while.

It doesn't take much to get people to populate to your shop. I've been planning my pets for about a year now. I'm still not done. Take your time. Even with all the time I'm plotting it out I don't think people will buy my pets like I want them to. Just get to know some people in their threads and they'll come to yours when you get it up. Also, it helps to see the "style" of pets that people are often going for. But like I said, it's all about patience ^^ Good luck, I hope I run into your shop sometime ^.^
I adore this idea. And I would LOVE to be an artist for you, if you would hire me biggrin Yes, that sexy librarian...or even the cowboy, is very...interesting xD I think ima gonna go draw a sexy librarian and show j00 <3

Anywho, I agree with Ageny. Children are a pain in the arse. Especially when it comes to drawing them. Babies...are DEATH for an artist! >< So, Perhaps you could start off at a young age? Schooling maybe. Like...12 years old? 14 yrs? Therefore people could still RP, and I could draw slutty school clothing biggrin <3

XD Anywho... I will show ya samples when my PB is working. But for now, im off to draw that librarian pirate yar.
