Something.... beautiful has happened.
In the new excavations into the ancient and secretive species who's technology we have grown to use every day of our lives, we have discovered a... Portal, to the Stars.


It's opening has resounded across the Cosmos... it is likely that a great number of Species now know of our existance.
Some of which may indeed be hostile.

But we must not be affraid - for the first time in our brief history, we can... reach out, and touch the Stars.
Our Society, this whole Civilisation is on the precipice of a huge amount of change.
Change can be frightening.


But we must not be affraid.
Our place in this Galaxy is about to change forever - there may no doubt be death and conflict on the road ahead...

But if we, all of us, do not turn and fear our future...

Then, together, we will find our place in this Universe.




Aim
The Republic aims to explore the galaxy now opened up to them, expanding it's own influence and (as new species are discovered) find it's place amoung the stars.
(We do RP Space battles)

Ok, I've descided to split these into the ones for each group they apply to.

Everybody;
* Obey the TOS
* try to limit the OOC chatter to the OOC Thread
* No spamming
* Don't take things too seriously - there'll no doubt end up being dissagreements when we and other Guilds do battle, but it's all in the name of fun - so please, nobody should have to be offended on here, so make sure you don't take things too far.

Members
*In this Thread, you're suppost to RP your Character(s) - obviously it would be impossible to do an RP without talking about it, so out of Character talking is perfectly acceptable, but... try to limit it to what's neccesary ('cept on the OOC Thread, where you can talk OOC all you like XD).
* RPing, from my experience, tends to be better when people put more effort into their characters - so try to write... colourfully.
* Your Character can do whatever you want it to do, but be wary that no action is without concequence - if your Character thinks it might be a good idea to go naked, smear herself in peanut butter and run around killing the rest of the crew with a rusty can opener... the likelyhood is that you'll get put away somewhere with white padded walls that's very difficult to get out from.

* Technology; if it works with nothing but Modern Physics *as in, survives the scrutiny of my Calculator XD* you can bring it.
But obviously, being Sci Fi, a few stretches of the Laws of Physics have to be made.
Please, try at least to obey Conservation of Momentum (no, you can't have shields that just absorb everything that goes into them without pushing on the ship) and Conservation of Energy (if your generators are giving out more Energy than the mass energy you'd get when you annihalate all the Matter of your Ship with Antimatter, you're probably in breach of this).
* Fight fair - if you have "1 million shields!!!11" and your ship's point-defence turrets can "glass Planets", fighting here is gonna be impossible - nothing we have can really stand against that.
So fight within reason.

(I live in great hope that one day somebody would make a Space RP Guild that can't fight here because it's too practical to be a match for our Technologies, but it's never gonna happen, is it? XD)


"Base"

Liexus is a Star, and it's Republic corresponds to everybody who lives around it.
Everything from the Colonies in the Asteroid Fields (there are 7, in the form of larger clusters of rock and dust) and the 3 rocky Planets (2 of which are covered by thick layers of gaseous Atmosphere) to the Outer Reaches (anywhere beyond the 3 gas giants of the System - normally settlements within huge Comets that float about aimlessly through the Cosmos), human and Technological Life has touched.
The sum total population (numerously quoted, depending on the survey) is roughly 30 or 40 Billion, the majority being in the Asteriods.

As for "defences", a Fleet resides scattered about the System to respond to any problems that can be solved with projectiles and lasers, but every floating Colony (looks kinda like a big jelly fish I suppose) is a defensive platform it itself - running through a form of Cellular Cold Fusion, they generate massive quantities of Microwaves to power smaller civilian craft.

With abit of focusing... these can also become deadly weaponry in their own right, smashing ordnance and ships alike.

The standing Army is made up of volunteers trained since birth, though it's number changes from situation to situation.

In essense, a Solar System is very big - going from place to place within it takes time.
For an invading Fleet, the more vulnerable targets (the places with the greatest concentrations of Population) would likely be the Planets - though... quite how one destroys something of such massive scale is another question entirely.

The System Government is the most well defended installation, at Port Babylon (where most of the Fleet stays most of the time).
The structure, built directly ontop of a 20 kilometer wide floating relic left by The Quiary, sports as much armour as an Iron Asteroid and has about as many Quench Guns and Cellular Diode "Las Clusters" as the fleet that patrols it.
(These weapons will be explained later on)

I hold high hopes for the people of this Forum... so I don't imagine this should be neccesary...
Basically, we're a Military Space RP Guild.
When you join, you get the possibility of several characters (up to 3, one in each kind of general proffession) who would be a part of this.

Join request;
Outline your main character, which can be either a Gene Seer, a Warrior or a Tacticus.
When you're done, send me the Profile by PM - I might ask for a few things to be altered, but generally you'll be accepted ^_^

From there, you should post as if your Character was one of those in the crowd mentioned in Post 6 so you can be given a brief outline of how to RP as your Character Option.

Any problems or questions, just post in the OOC Thread and I'll try explaining them Out of Character there.

Gene Seer;
For each of the Biomechanical wonders of the Liexus, there is a Gene Seer that keeps it in order.
Through ancient enhancements given by The Quiary themselves, these people can manipulate the DNA and chemical behavior of any Biological Technology by touch and thought (despite hundreds of years of rigourous research, the mechanism itself isn't well understood).
It is variations of this ability that are required for Pilots and Engineers to work with the Ships and Technologies in the Liexian Navy.

If you wanna pilot a Ship or Ornifighter (explained later in thread), this is the class for you.

Warrior;
Naturally, whilst almost everyone has the ability to control Biotechnology to an extent, the majority are not as capable as the Gene Seers.
These will often choose to serve as Warriors, the versatile Infantry forces that deal with all forms of battle not fought primarily with Ships - including Planetary Invasions, though one has never actually been attempted by Liexus as of the start of this Guild.

Tacticus;
Obviously, fighting and winning on large scales requires leaders - people who will stand couragously and make whatever descisions are neccesary to be made.
Controlling a Ship or Fleet or even an assault would require your Character to be of this class.

Technology
Ok, this is where all the more obvious and interesting Technologies employed by the Republic's Armed Forces are posted and explained.

Cellular Fusion

The infamous "Cold Fusion" Experiments (try this, it's got spectacular footage XD) done by Humanity on Earth at the close of their 20th Century represented a brief and murky look into the immensely complex world of Low Energy Nuclear Reactions.
To The Quiary, however, such things were trivial and so the Protien Technology required to induce the more energetic of these reactions is readily available to the Gene Seers, who power most systems with it.
Inside a single Cell of a Biotechnological Organism, something similar in size to a Mitochondrian, uses large Electrical Potential Differences with Piezoelectric effects from crystaline protien structures to initiate controlled Low Energy Nuclear Fusion in simple Hydrogen from water.
The energetic Electrons given off from this are then used in a process similar to a phase of Photosynthesis in Plants to convert them to chemical energy.
Alternatively, they may be used to make a current.
Since most of the Energy from these reactions doesn't go into the Electrons from the Hydrogen reacting but the bi-products. these positively charge nuclei are often used for other purposes as well, such as in the next Technology;

Thermo-Nuclear Drives
Complicated as it sounds, the principle behind this is quite simple - you use a Nuclear Reaction to heat a fluid up to a very high temperature, which turns it to a gas and makes it expand, turning that heat into motion.
Basically, you get a stream of hot gas out the back of the drive and it pushes the ship.
The Nuclear Reactions in this case are those talked about above, more specifically the charged Helium Nuclei given off from them, which aren't terrifically penetrating.
The Cells generating these Nuclei are positioned around the fluid being heated (normally water) in a sort of pipe formation, using Quantum Mechanics to force the energetic Nuclei to be emitted out of the Cells and into the fluid.
You get hot steam going out the back very fast and about twice the Isp of Chemical Rockets

Diode Cluster Lasers
The Cells in this structure each have a Diode Laser on top.
Arranged in hundreds of millions of thin sheets stacked ontop of eachother, they then use Photonic-Crystal Fibre to guide the output to small pore-like bits that cover the outside of the structure itself, whos spacing can be altered to focus the beam on a target at different distances.
Since Diode Lasers are very efficient, especially when small, this weapon can work for extended periods of time in microsecond bursts, with each Cell only generating a tiny amount of energy, but overall the yield stretches into Megajoules per burst.

Quench Guns
Gauss Cannons are very powerfull systems which don't suffer from the friction burn problems that Railguns do, but they have a few problems of their own; Eddy Currents heat up each Magnet as the Projectile passes and the maximum speed it can get to is limited by the rate at which you can turn the Magnets off... which, for normal ones... isn't fast enough to match Railguns sweatdrop
There is an alternative, however; using a Superconductor, you can turn it off almost instantaniously by "Quenching" it (heating it to a temperature too hot for it to conduct), which eliminates Eddy Currents as well.
The catch is that this in itself makes alot of heat, which has to be vented after each shot.

Gamma Ray Laser
The maximum Energy of the light emitted by a Laser is usually proportional to the concentration of Energy you can use to "pump" it with.
Since this is usually electricity, the wavelength doesn't go much beyond blue light.
But if you can use very highly energetic particles to excite the Lasing Material, you can make very energetic and very penetrating Electromagnetic Radiation.
When a small Nnuclear Explosion is set off near a cluster of Gamma Ray Lasers, a huge quantity of Neutrons will pass through each Laser.
As they touch the outside, they will cause Fast Fission in a thin jacket of Uranium 238 there, which will eject highly energetic Fission Fragments into the Lasing Material.
It is these that pump the Laser.
Such devices can achieve incredible intensities and the Gamma Rays themselves can penetrate tens of meters of metallic Armour, destroying all machinery and living beings in their path.
This, unfortunately, isn't very efficient - so most of the Energy is wasted as heat, which effectively destroys the laser each time it's fired.
Because of this, the Laser itself needs to be replaced before another shot can be fired, giving it a comparitively very slow rate of fire for Ship Mounted models.

History
The story goes that somewhere around 4,000 years from their present (somewhere in the 30th century by our time), a highly advanced alien Species known as The Quiary took a Cuty's worth of Humans from somewhere in ancient Greece as part of one of their experiments, bringing them to a new Planet where they could be educated and mentally altered to understand their masters, so as to carry out their will when, inevitably, they were consumed in the Galactic Conquest that had ravaged their whole Species.

They shaped their piece of Humanity into a faster, healthier, more resilliant and generally more dextrous being.
The main advantage of the Biotechnology left to Liexus by the Quiary all those years ago is the unique capacity it provides for a Human to merge with it and control it directly, as if it were an extension of their own body.
Normally this just implies trivial applications, such as controlling lighting or food growth... but people gifted as Gene Seers may choose to undergo the modifications required to fully lend their minds to a seperate mechanical entity.
Usually, this will be an Ornifighter - a 7 or 8 story tall living entity built to fullfill the variety of roles that a smaller craft should fullfill (intercepting Ordnance, harrassing smaller opponents, defending less maneuverable craft... and their original purpose; delivering Nukes).
Their propulsion technologies are stored in the wing-like structures either side of their main bodies.
By having seperate "feathers" beneath which the thrusters themselves are stituated, the total stress on the structures can be spread over a very wide area and by having most of the weight behind the wings the supporting structure they are connected to is pulled forwards (organic materials usually much prefer being pulled than being pushed, and are thus Tensily capable of withstanding tens of times the stress they'd otherwise be put through).

The Pilot of this craft, as with the Pilot of any Biomechanical craft in our Forces, is suspended in a gel similar to the consistency of water.
Due to it's makeup, it can be breathed through quite naturally, and it's thickness does wonders for helping the Pilot survive sudden shocks, like weapons impacts.
The main purpose, however, is as a sortof G Suit - when exposed to a high acceleration, the liquid shifts backwards and forces the blood back from the legs of the Pilot to stop them blacking out.
A tangle of nerve-like extensions from the craft serve to hold him/her in place and monitor their nerve impulses and voluntry movements, since it is through these that the Craft is controlled... combined with a direct neural uplink through a small blue area of skin on the back of the neck of every Pilot, which provides a direct link to the brain in order for sensory data to be delivered directly.
Ornifighters

Aquilia Secundus
Lesser Eagle - most common Ornifighter in service.
Often when a small vessel is needed for something, like battling emeny Fighter Squadrons or intercepting Ordnance, it is a group of these that will be called out.
Mass grown, they represent the finest that the Gene Seers can produce themselves, which, even they would admit, isn't much to what The Quiari left them.
Diode Crests and slow-firing Quench Guns are the primary armerments, each magnificent in their own rights, but the co-ordination of fire that a direct neural link with the pilot can provide is what makes them so potent as weapons.

Energy at rel. velocity is 970 Megajoules.
Max. rate of fire at once per 2 seconds.
4 Shortbrow Quench Guns, 2 on either side of main body.
20/20/30 cm scatterpack rounds, 93.6 kilos, rel. velocity to firer of 8 km/s
Each of the hundred 2/2/30 cm Iron bars in the round has Energy of 30 Megajoules at rel. velocity.
Max. rate of fire at once per 3 seconds.
Vector munitions - 10 Tonnes.

Sensors; spectral analysis from microwaves to soft UV is done by the "head" of the system, whilst Radiowaves are recieved by conductive fillaments strentching just under the skin, tuned to the wavelengths that The Stars are quiet in - it's on these that most Communications are sent through.
The Biomechanical Computer at the heart of each Aquillius is rated at 1,000 trillion instructions per second (about 10 times what your eyes work with)

Cyginae Cosmatum
Swan of the Stars - if you fight hard and well with an Aquilia, you might get to pilot one of these - a coat of Fullerene delicately woven in beautiful quality covers it's body, making it far more resistant to conventional weapons fire.

3.53 Gigajoules, one shot per 2 seconds.

Down the long "neck" of the system, a collection of Microwave "flash feathers" and comicated blood vessel-like Waveguides can deliver brief 60 Megawatt bursts of Microwaves, lasting up to a few seconds, for taking out electrical instruments on opponent vehicles or clouds of guided munitions.

Munitions;
Can hold 7 Foxtide nuclear warheads, along with 20 tonnes worth of probe or unmanned equipment.
Vector munitions; 30 Tonnes

The "tail feathers" are for more delicate sensory activities, such as taking samples of free-floating gases or spatial debris and are capable of rapid spectroscopy via stacks of ionised Cells in them for accelerators.

Sensors
Right up to hard UV, the delicate body of the Swan can detect Electromagnetic Radiation as well as direct Spectroscopy from vacuum samples and process it's collected data at 3,000 Trillion instructions per second.

As ever, there is a maximum speed with which any information can be delivered to the pilot, but, like most direct creations of The Quiary, the being almost has a consciousness of it's own.
A fantastic battle companion, this Genus can assist it's pilot in co-ordinating a fury of maneuvers and striking power.

Battle Ships

Titanus Collosis
Currently the biggest Solid Ship serving in the Liexus Navy.
Huge Mass Drivers can unleash swarms of Ordnance upon a potential opponent, stacks of Diode Clusters, co-ordinated by some of the finest Gunners in Service, can deflect or destroy thousands of small objects per second.
The Armour that covers it in overlapping plates is strong enough to withstand tremendous bombardment.

Dimensions 6 kilometers from "head" to "tail", at a max of about 1.5 kilometers across (typically - each Ship varies slightly in shape and size)
Mass (empty); between 90-100 million Tonnes
Mass (+ fuel, supplies, cargo and munitions); between 140-150 million Tonnes
Propulsion
Thermonuclear, using each of the 24 ridges on it's back as a heating and expansion cover for the Propellant.
Since each seperate system shares out the thrust, the stress of acceleration is spread over a very wide area and most of the Ship is pulled, not pushed, in the direction of travel, which the structural supports are much better at handling than a compressive force.
Maximum acceleration of 1 g sustainable for long periods.
Practically achievable Isp is about 20,000 seconds.
Max. Acc. can be sustained for about 7,400 seconds, equivalent to a velocity change of 74,000 meters per second.

Armaments
2 quad Gamma Ray Cannons, with each of the 4 clusters containing up to a dozen Gamma Ray Lasing segments.
Each segment supplies about 60 Gigajoules of Gamma Rays to the overall burst.
Burst duration on the order of 500 nanoseconds, with alittle "after-burn" of UV for a few microseconds after that.
Since the lasers overheat after each shot, they must be ejected (recycled if there is time) and replaced before another shot can be fired, which takes about 30 seconds.

12 Super-heavy Mass Drivers, each capable of bringing a 20 Tonne munition to 9 kilometers per second.
Rate of fire ~ once every 2 sceonds.

4 Collosus Mass Drivers, each capable of bringing a 100 tonne projectile to 10 kilometers per second.
Rate of fire ~ once every 10 seconds.

~900 Quench Guns, similar in specs and function to those used by the Aquillius model of Ornifighter.

~10,000 Diode Clusters, similar in specs and function to those found on the Aquillius Ornifighter.

Microwave Weapons
The lower "tail", in addition to sensory and communications purposes, can produce huge quantities of Microwaves on demand, at a maximum sustainable intensity of 10 Gigawatts for 3 seconds.
Normally this is used to blind ordnance or opponent's sensitive electronics.

Munitions
Most of these are fired with the Mass Drivers, and each Titanus has the capacity for 600 Foxtide and 70 Dessolator Nuclear Warheads across 10 seperate Munitions Bays for refitting and customising them to perform any reasonable function to be expected of a Nuke (Neutron Bomb, Nuclear Pumped Lasers, even propelling a Projectile).
Normally, somewhere between 3 and 4 million Tonnes of other Ordnance will also be carried.

Cargo Capacity;
Depending on the model, up to 10 million tonnes of other cargo can be carried, including Ground Forces, Ornifighters, Frigates, landing craft and fuelling vessels.

(oh yeah... erm... gimme a break with the drawings, ok? lol, it's difficult for scanned in stuff to look cool especially when you're crap on Photoshop XD)
