^_^ This thread is awesome, I'll try and post some pics later if I can get some decent media. In the mean-time, I have a character -- she's an HP fan character, is that okay? The only thing that was borrowed was the universe, though, no British HP characters in sight. (I know nothing about the British culture other than what I've learned from British entertainment and having British online friends, so I'm writing about an American school -- a culture I know much better as I live there -- instead, rather than mutilating a culture I don't know about.)
Andrea Cassandra Owen: She's got chestnut-brown (that is, medium-dark brown with a slight reddish tint) hair, not particularly straight but not "wavy" either, to her elbows, and her bangs are well-trimmed. She has dark green eyes that appear intelligent and observant, kind of revealing that her brain's "on" at all times-- you know, the kind of eyes that all non-evil/non-coldly neutral really bright people seem to have. She has glasses, too, kind of like a cross between a D with the straight side up and an oval. She's eleven years old (as of the first story), short and slim (she's the kind of person who can eat and eat and eat and not gain a pound), no teenage curves showing up yet, probably a late bloomer in this regard. Kind of frail-looking, bony arms, and strangely long, sort of tapered fingers -- odd for a child her age.
She has no sense of style other than the usual rules -- no bold stripes with bold plaids, don't wear complementary colors together, etc. -- and just wears what's comfortable, but tends to be a little conservative with her clothing, never showing more skin than is appropriate for the season. (She lives in Texas, just to let you know, so it gets HOT and HUMID during the summer -- 100 degrees F isn't uncommon. She's still a kid, so she could run around at home with no shirt on if she wanted to.)
In case you need it or want to draw her with it, her wand (her wand arm is her left though she is ambidextrous normally) is redwood, 14 inches, chimaera hair, and her school robes (actual ankle-length, slip-over-your-head, "closed" ROBES, not movie robes) are navy blue, her "dueling' robes (long story) are mostly white and hooded, with an emerald/pine green trim on the hood, two thin green stripes running from the base of the hood (either side of the collar) to the hem on the front, and big, floopy, folded-back green cuffs.
Her personality -- she doesn't make friends very easily, but when she does, it takes a lot to shake her trust in them. She's kind of a nerd, not a big fan of sports (she gets sick on broomsticks and isn't a big fan of Quidditch OR Quadpot), loves strategy games like chess. Her vocabulary and choice of words can make her seem a lot older than she really is. She can be brave, but usually only to protect her friends or to stand up her enemies. She can have a sharp tongue, but only to her enemies or used in jest. She's also got this weird kind of "from the mouths of babes come wisdom" thing going on at times. When she focuses on something, she concentrates on it almost to the exclusion of everything else, and puts her heart into everything she does, never leaving a poorly done job even if it's some dumb menial task, like scrubbing cauldrons. She usually thinks before speaking, unless she's angry or something like that, and can seem mature for her age. She's pretty much guileless at this age, not good at lying and such at all, and is surprised when her enemies do it. She can be very competitive, especially so with enemies.
I tried to get her detailed enough so that you get a good picture of her in your head, but not so detailed so you don't have any artistic liscense with her. If you wanna change her slightly, like make her hair a little longer or shorter or something like that, go ahead, I don't mind.
