Backwoods Abomination

Weeping Willow Valley Ranch

Weeping Willow Valley is not a new ranch. It's been used by quite a few Monster Trainers, Morigale being the latest.

There was quite a bit of time between the last one's leaving and Mori's moving in, so the place is a little overgrown.

The back of the ranch, and part of the sides, is surrounded by cliffs. While not sheer, they are fairly steep and would be tough to climb up or down. There is a clear path from the front of the ranch to the house and field, with several smaller, unclear paths snaking to other parts of the ranch. The farther back you go, the more plants there are until the back of the ranch near the cliffs is almost impassable. At the moment, everything is covered in snow, and the smaller paths are hidden. The main path has been carefully cleared.

The middle of the ranch contains a large two-story farmhouse, still sturdy but with peeling paint. The previous broken windows have been replaced, and the shutters put back on. To the side is a stable, a little smaller than the first floor of the house. It's in a condition at least as good as that of the house. There's snow on the roofs of both the structures, and Morigale has hung a few strands of multi-colored Christmas lights along the eves. There's also a pair of pretty white and gold lanterns hanging under the roof of the porch, near the door.

The main field has finally been cleared of all the weeds, and has a few training areas set up. Unfortunately, the cold and the snow has made them hard to use, so most of the training is done in the house.

A good-sized stream flows all the way across the ranch, twining around the side of the field and behind the house, ending in a pond so deep you can't see the bottom. One of the ranch's willows shades a part the pond, and most of it is shaded at all times by one tree or another. At the moment the pond is frozen over, but the stream is still going. There's a little ice around the banks.

Besides willows, some previous owner seems to have had a taste for mulberries, and there are a few mulberry trees scattered around.

With the shelter, the food and the water it's no wonder that there's quite a bit of wildlife. Nothing very large has been seen so far, but people have seen rabbits, frogs, a colony of ground squirrels, the occasional fox and a few harmless snakes.

Ranch Inhabitants

Morigale

User Image

Morigale is a brand new monster trainer, owner of both the ranch and a disk stone containing a Jell.

She is not a very imposing figure, being slightly shorter than average, but she's determined and quite strong for her size.

She has a generally quiet, friendly personality. Her tendency to care for anyone in trouble can get her in trouble sometimes, but that doesn't stop her from trying.

Luckily, she has the help of her other pets to restore the ranch to its former beauty.

((Doll made by me, on a base from Swiss Cheese Army. Please do not take.))

Erik
Erik is a very quiet monster - in fact, he's mute. This doesn't mean he's stupid, however, and he is actually quite smart. He gets his point across with symbols and the occasional note.
He seems to really enjoy music, especially classical, and he loves to read.

Elise
Elise is a zombie. Unlike the zombies of movies and games, this particular type doesn't have bits falling off every few paces.

Elise looks rather like a tall human woman, but her skin is bright purple. Her hair is in a mohawk-like style, falling across one side of her face, and is pale pink.

She has decorative metallic wings, sharp teeth and white eyes.

She tends to wear a white sarong and sandals, though sometimes she covers up more.

She has a rather abrasive personality, always needling people, but she's nice enough if you can ignore the barbs.

She'll eat anything, preferring beef, and she has been banned from so much as nipping a human. She hasn't quite got the concept of 'pet', so any small tasty-looking things are in danger if she's near. However, she does have the concept of 'touch it and it'll test its attacks on you' so your monsters (even the fluffy ones) are quite safe.

She spends most of her time away from the ranch, and most people don't even realize she lives there.
((Elise is from the shop
Rotted Flesh, or was. Her picture was, eh, lost. I'm going to have her remade as a custom as soon as possible.))

Abe
User Image

Abe is also a zombie, but unlike his sister he's almost harmless.

He spends some of his time reading, but more of it swimming. He tends to eat fish rather than red meat or poultry, and Elise insists he's going to turn into a fish.

He doesn't really have any one outfit he wears, even his bathing suits. He has several of those, in interesting patterns.
He understands pets much better than his sister does, and owns a large tank of tropical fish.

He didn't need to be banned from biting people because he never tried, but he can be vicious if his family is threatened.

Mostly, he spends his time down near the pond or in his room.

((Also from Rotted Flesh))
Clara

User Image
Clara is a small, sweet, semi-anthro fox. She and her fae, Nia, are happy-go-lucky little creatures who enjoy climbing on things, exploring, and generally having fun. At the moment, she's sporting a cute scarf and bow set for winter.

She is terrified of Elise, having been bitten when Elise was a baby, but she gets along fairly well with Abe. She's very curious about what Erik will be like.

She has a big crush on a Bat noodle Crow named Quasar.

The most precious thing Clara owns is her bowl of noodles, and she protects it with everything she's got. She's almost as protective of her hat, but her noodles come first.

She loves her owner Mori, and tries to stay in sight of her whenever she can.

((Clara is from Noodle Animals.))

Whirly
User Image

Whirly is... a fan. A living, breathing (?) desk fan. He's still in his box but has already proved himself to be a complete clutz.

((Whirly is a Skreeble.))

Tibia
User Image

Tibia is a Mongmong. A halloween-themed Mongmong that I won in a raffle-type thing. She glows.
She's rather... well... she's a tomboy. She snores, eats like a horse, and runs everywhere rather than walking.

((Tibia is from the Mongmong Box.))

Corvin
User Image

Meet Corvin, my Haomin. He's an Electric-element baby male Haomin. ((Who I colored, by the way))
He acts like he has a permanent sugar rush. He won't sit still for a minute, unless he wants a tummy rub or an ear scratch.
Nobody else's Haomin acts like him. I think he may be a dog in a Haomin suit.

((Corvin is from the Haomin Headquarters.))

Downstairs

The Living Room

The living room is large, with white wooden walls and a hardwood floor. Along the wall on the same side as the door is a rock fireplace, a nice fire burning merrily inside. The mantle is decorated with a string of sparkly fake snowflakes and christmas stockings for Erik, Clara, both zombies and Morigale.

There's a large TV up against the wall on the right, flanked by two small tables. Beside those are a pair of bookcases. On and under the tables are various video-game systems and a VCR/DVD player. On top of the TV is a reciever box for sattelite.

There is a Christmas tree in the corner of the front and right walls, with several shinily-wrapped presents under it. There doesn't seem to be any sort of theme to its decoration; Santas are next to gingerbread men which are next to fancy random shapes which are next to kitty angels and so on. The tree topper is an angel in a green dress with a trumpet.

Two comfy-looking two-seater sofas are arranged at right angles so that one faces the TV and the other faces the fireplace. In between them, there is an end table with a drawer where the remotes are stored. The sofas sport various throws depending on the season; at the moment, one is blue with snowflakes and the other features a smiling snowman.

There are more bookcases along the left wall. These have been decorated with little sprigs of holly.

The wall opposite the door to the outside contains, unsurprisingly, the door to the dining room.

((In case you care, Mori subscribes to the 'Sims' theory: Splurge on the entertainment, beds, and skill-building objects.))

Nexus: kingdom of the winds? Fishing. Animal Crossing. Fiiiishing. Harvest Moon? Fishing. Fairyland Online? Fishing. A Tale of the Desert? Fishing. I haven't got to the fishing thing in Zelda: Ocarina of Time yet, but I imagine I'll love that too.
