I am Mel.
This is my first art request thread. Ever. So uh... be gentle?
I am looking for art of my five main characters from an old story of mine from my mid-to-high
school years (am nearly 30 now, in case ye wanna guess how old "old" is here).
Normally I draw my own characters, but I am curious how others might portray them, so...
Thread! Oh, and uh... if you like my avi, I like avi artz too. Warn me or something though, 'cause I am very prone to change
at random. o;
I am looking for free art, 'cause I have no idea what sort of price can be put on art... so not
planning to feel all awkward trying to guess that stuff. sweatdrop
I will tip all art posts, though, and may possibly draw something for you in return!

Young Adult (when first written she was late teens, but I am considering modifying this for early

Cis-Femme / Female Species ::
Earthling human (ethnicity: mulatto [mixed black & white for those that don't know the term]).
Melfania has altered her (through fancy "not-gonna-explain-it-here" magics *mystically wiggles
fingers* ) into what is known there as a "Flame-eater." She is still humanoid in appearance for
the most part. Eye Color/Shape :: #3b0b04 / Almond eyes -- As a Flame-eater, her eyes may appear like fire when she is REALLY
pissed off... or when she's aroused, but that latter is not so common. Skin/Scale Color ::
About like... #b65b34 -ish. She can get a little darker, but does not generally choose direct sunlight
(i.e. tanning) over a nice shady copse o' trees. She likes trees. Hair/Fur Color ::
Looks basically like #240804, but she has faintly blonde highlights that make her hair almost a
metal, coppery color in the right light. Said "right light" doesn't happen oft since she prefers
sitting in shade. xD! Hair/Fur Length ::
Falls just below her shoulder blades. Hair/Scale Style ::
As described by her, it is "riotous / wild / frizzy / messy / fluffy / crazy" hair. When tamed
and/or bound, most don't really see the crazy, though. It is more wavey than curly. It is thick,
and is usually bound up in the back of her head as a ponytail or twisty half-braid thing... save
for her "antennae" -usually two small locks she twists up and lets dangle in front of her face.
On occasion she may wear up to four of these. Height ::
5' 2" Body Type ::
Somewhere between "Pear" and "Straight," leaning a little closer to the latter.
She doesn't like sitting still unless it's for drawing or being on her computer (back at home), and
she enjoys manual labor. So she is fairly strong. But deceptively so. Scars/Birthmarks/Oddities of Species ::
Has a single Palmar Crease in both hands. This is something she randomly is fascinated by, so
there. Oddity.
She has seven small beauty marks on her body ( **optional to draw) : two on her left index finger
(at base and on second digit, both on the palm-side), one on the inside of her wrist (R-hd), one on
her collar bone (Right), one on her side, about level with her belly button (Left), one on the inside of
her knee cap (Right), and one on top of her foot, near her big toe (L-ft).
Her left index finger was twisted outward, thusly broken, and did not heal straight when she was
a kid. It is mostly noticeable if she holds up a closed fist (there is a V-shaped gap between index and
middle finger from the second knuckle out), but there is also a pronounced lump in the middle of
the back of her hand where the bone presses out against her skin. ( **optional to draw)
As a Flame-eater, her ears curl in to a pointed tip. No elongation though; just a tip.
Other'n that... lots of little day-to-day scratch-scars 'cause she has a bad habit of roughing
about in the wild and then absentmindedly picking at little scabs, but nothing significant
enough that need be drawn. Clothing style ::
Jeans and boots kinda girl. She likes loose-fitted, form-hiding clothing because she is self-
conscious and it helps her forget herself. Mostly dark or neutral solid colors.
She likes vests sometimes.
And pockets. Pockets are her friends.
Also she sometimes wears a kerchief- bandanna-style - can be pretty much any color/design
except blue or red.
Anything with skulls is a plus.
Little to no pink. She's not big on pink. Jewelry/Accessory(ies) ::
Simple silver necklace with a simple silver band on it. Was a gift from her father. Wears it ALWAYS.
She also has a digital watch on her left wrist with a thick fabric wrist band. Tells military time. Piercing(s) ::

n / a - Too busy getting lost / looking for home. Talent/Hobby ::
She draws. It is what she calls her "reason for living." In Melfania she often does so on random
things along the way because she rarely has paper with her (like trees, walls, in the dirt on the
ground with a stick,.. stuff like that).
Also collects knives. Plays with 'em a lot. Likes to meditate while sharpening them. General Disposition ::
Passive aggressive and quirky. Straightforward. Easily amused, relatively naive, socially and
romantically awkward. Relatively low self-esteem. Defensive toward strangers (often with
an air
of intensity) but generally gives everyone a fair chance for trust at first. Can hold a grudge.
Like. Woah. But can also cause herself to forget past pains (self-inflicted partial amnesia? Yes. Woo
mind-manipulation!).
Just about ALWAYS humming/whistling/vocalizing some random music. Unless she's in a bad
mood. Then she's very quiet and unresponsive. Other ::
Has a spider policy - "I see it, I kill it" that may be bound to get her in trouble in Melfania,
since there are some giant spider-like creatures... one species of which that is sentient.
Has a phobia of needles.
As a "Flame-eater," yes, she has some control over fire. Cannot conjure it, though. It has to
already be alight.

Relations to Other Characters::
:: Tessa :: "This is my other HALF!" <-- Shared words.
They are best friends from Earth and know each other just about well enough to finish each
others' sentences. They are often referencing random things from home and making the twins
look at them sideways... mostly for the lolz, but also simply because they miss home.
They are very comfortable with each other.
VERY.
Like... sometimes "suggestively" so. But they are just friends, I swear. > >;
:: Aurin ::
Treats him like a good male friend. Platonic. Teases him a lot about how he fusses over
certain things, but has a good deal of respect for him.
:: Zenux ::
Treats him like a close male friend. Her actions toward him are sometimes guarded and overly
cautious without her even noticing because she has a bit of a crush on him and hasn't figured
out that's what it is yet. She likes to make him laugh because he is often very serious-looking.
:: Okami ::
Treats him as a sibling and often drags him along into silly mischief, or is dragged along into his
own troubles. They are close. She is very comfortable with him. Gets annoyed/embarrassed
when he tries to enforce his so-called "claim" on her, though.

Young Adult (She and Mel are the same age, give or take a couple months, so... early-to-mid

Earthling human (ethnicity: mixed [caucasian and native American if I remember right]).
Melfania has altered her into what is known there as a "Myezun," which I will have a bit more
detail on further down. General overall appearance is still mostly humanoid. Eye Color/Shape ::
About like #2A7536 with very light flecks of brown / She has slightly downturned, wide eyes. Skin/Scale Color ::
She is fair-skinned. Like #FFE2CC. Hair/Fur Color ::
She had a tendency to dye her hair quite a bit on Earth, so I am plotting a running gag of her
hair color changing at random. When first appearing in Melfania, her hair was something like #3F115A. When it is natural, she is a brunette. Similar to #2C1007. But as I said... intended
running gag means her hair color may vary. She has done blonde, ruby red, a rich mahogany
color, and black in my working memory. Pick something. P; Hair/Fur Length ::
Comes to her shoulders.
Occasionally she will crop it shorter. Hair/Scale Style ::
Straight. Sometimes she will put it in a ponytail, but usually it is loose. Straight cut bangs
cross her forehead as well. Height ::
5' 3" Body Type ::
Hourglass.
She is a dancer (ballet) on Earth, so she is pretty physically fit. Not overly muscular, though. Scars/Birthmarks/Oddities of Species ::
As a Myezun, her ears have changed to cat-like ears and she has grown a cat tail. The fur on
them generally matches her hair. Artificially colored or not. Her eyes are also more sensitive to
light as a Myezun, and often the pupils are constricted to a sliver in direct sunlight. Her
fingernails have become retractable claws. Clothing style ::
Comfy and flattering with a colorful flare. She often wears tank tops, t-shirts and dancer pants or
shorts. Likes the occasional sheer top over everything just 'cause it's cool looking. Has a lot of
shirts with witty/silly phrases on them. Jewelry/Accessory(ies) ::
Can be found with bracelets and necklaces, but is hypoallergenic so have to be pure. Nothing
cheap. Err... no nickel, I mean. Piercing(s) ::
Both ears. Just the lobes. Wears little danglies, studs, or hoops. Nothing super big or
obnoxious/tacky. Tattoo{s) ::

Dancing and writing. She writes songs as well as stories. General Disposition ::
Shy but direct. She generally has no trouble going for something she wants if she knows she
can get it. She is eccentric, and quiet around strangers, but can get loud and fun easily enough. Other ::
She likes things that are cute, sparkly, and/or shiny.
Has phobias of spiders, clowns, and statues.
As a Myezun, she has become one of few women in a dying species on Melfania. So there
have been a couple of attempted kidnappings and at times the group will jest about her being
a bartering chip when dealing with the nearly feral people. It is merely jest though, we swear. :]

:: Melissa ::
"We are a pair of SOCKS!" <-- More shared words.
She is Mel's best friend from Earth and knows her very well. Including how to tell when she is
in a mood that you can help her with, versus one where you should just get the hell out of
her way.
They are VERY close friends. Just so.
:: Aurin ::
She has an interest in Aurin, but he is too shy to respond when she says anything coy, and
she has so far not yet decided whether or not she wants to pursue him for certain. Otherwise
they are good friends. He fusses over her comfort a lot.
:: Zenux ::
There is sometimes an awkward tension between these two because she has a tendency to
tease Aurin and he'll get protective. Otherwise they get along okay, but don't talk too much.
Zenux doesn't often initiate conversation, and she isn't entirely sure how to approach him
sometimes, so her shyness keeps her distant.
:: Okami ::
Okami has for some reason taken her under his wing like a young sister and constantly tries
to push her physical limits... When he's not asking her about details from her world. She is
usually amused by him, but occasionally wishes he'd get a clue and mind his own business.

Male Species ::
Aelphkan (?) -- The Aelphkan are the dominant sentient species of Melfania. They are humanoid
plus little differences that will be in the "Oddities" section. The "?" here is because the twins are
not truly Aelphkani, but are so similar as to appear thus. It is not known they aren't (even to
them) until Okami reveals that they are different late in the story. Their species is technically
unnamed because no one remains that knows of it and Nerrick (their father) refuses to share
any info he might recall. Eye Color/Shape :: #107512 / He has long, slightly up-turned eyes. Skin/Scale Color ::
His skin is like #F0D29A. Hair/Fur Color ::
When I first made him, Aurin's hair was bright~ red... but I've made him a little closer to...
humanly (yes I know he's not human, you'll have to excuse the term xD; ) plausible.
We're gonna go with #640D06. Hair/Fur Length ::
Waist-length. Hair/Scale Style ::
His hair is mostly straight (has VERY little wave in it that makes it curl at the tips) Likes to wear
it loose. Will braid it if the wind kicks up pretty bad though. P: Height ::
5' 7 3/4" Body Type ::
Would be typically cast as an Ectomorph. He is skinny, but a healthy skinny.
Has good, lean muscle strength. Scars/Birthmarks/Oddities of Species ::
Has one long, slashing scar down his left bicep from a sparring accident with Z when they were
younger and playing with sharp pointy things away from Linnet's watchful gaze. P:
As a supposed Aelphkan, his thumb has an extra digit of length compared to humans. Not super
noticeable. If you hold your hand up straight with flat fingers pointing up, you may see how the
thumb generally reaches the base of the fingers, well an Aelphkan's thumb length would reach
the line over the first knuckle (I'll draw up a ref if this confuses a lot of people xD). His ears are
long, slender and pointed (they point back rather than stick out) in an elf-ish fashion.
From his unknown heritage, though, he has an ageless sort of face and his eyes can lose their
color when his mood is dark (they will fade out to a gray, like #A1A1A1). Clothing style ::
Aurin likes comfort. Prefers slacks to jeans and will usually tuck the ends into his boots, which are
thick-soled 'cause he does a lot of foot-travelling. Wears mostly loose-fitting shirts with long
sleeves. Except in summer. He basically goes bare-chested in summer. He is not self-conscious
of his body enough to care if anyone looks at him sideways because of this... but then again,..
summer's pretty brutal in most of Melfania, so... people generally don't look at him sideways for this. xD;
Has a utility/tool/alchemist's "belt." It is makeshift and basically comprised of a normal belt, several
pouches and a strip of thick, waterproof cloth that falls over it all. When looking at it, one only sees
the cloth (it falls to mid-thigh) and the belt buckle (simple buckle style, nothin' fancy). Jewelry/Accessory(ies) ::

Has a symbol on his hip (right) that is like a tattoo in that it is ink under his skin... but it changes
depending on who is looking at it. Is always small, about 1 2/3 x 2 inches large. And it is always
perceived as meaningless to whoever sees it, but it gives one an eerie feeling if one looks at
it for too long. (Mel often stares at it anyway and plays the 'inkblot' game.) Occupation ::
Scholar - Due to wanderlust and general curiosity of the world and its cultures. Talent/Hobby ::
Storytelling General Disposition ::
Open-minded, light-hearted, always curious but shows a sensible measure of caution, occasionally
gullible. Aurin often gives people the benefit of the doubt against bad rumors; he trusts fairly easily. Other ::
Has a weakness for women (not like a lech, just... a soft spot.) He extends extra kindness toward
them...and yes, he can be exploited through it. Also has a nervous habit of tugging on/playing with
his hair.
Relations to other characters::
:: Melissa ::
Doesn't feel like he gets her at all. Her quirkiness throws him off a lot, and she often rejects offers
of help from him. But that just makes him more curious about her motives.
He is wary of her, but there is no serious animosity here.
:: Tessa ::
He harbors feelings for her, but is too shy to say anything. He fusses over her a lot and will stand
with her against pretty much anything, if given the chance.
:: Zenux ::
They are brothers. Twins. Would-be identical in fact, except their coloring is a mite different and
Zenux has led a harder life of sorts.
They are close, and they quarrel a lot.
:: Okami ::
Aurin is wary of Okami not for who he is, but for what he is. But they get along fairly well, when
Okami is not picking fun at him. Both are fairly knowledgeable of the wilds, so they tend to get
into conversations and debates that the others simply don't understand.

When first created, Zenux had silver-to-white hair. I was watching a lot of Inuyasha at the time.
I have always liked white hair for some unfathomable reason, IY just made me think about it a
lot. xD;
Now that I have given it more thought than impulse, I've made his hair gray-ish blonde. He was
born with it, no premature stuff. It is actually inherited from his mother. It is #CBC0B0.
If you'd rather color his hair silver though, for old times' sake, be my guest. ;D Hair/Fur Length ::
Like Aurin, his hair is also waist-length. Hair/Scale Style ::
Again, like Aurin, his hair is mostly straight (with that li'l bit of curl at the tips) and he will often

He is somewhat between ectomorph and mesomorph, leaning more to the former. He is slightly
thicker than Aurin is due to a heavier exercise routine and thus he's got more muscle
definition/mass. He is not particularly bulky though. Scars/Birthmarks/Oddities of Species ::
One thin scar on the left side of his face running down from just below his temple to his jaw
that is normally camouflaged by his hair. Multiple claw-like scars scattered across the outside
of his left arm and shoulder (as though he had the arm up in protective manner- which is
probably true- when he was attacked by whatever created said scars.) They are criss-crossed
somewhat. Also has two long, ugly slashes down his right leg- one from mid-thigh to just below
his knee on the out side, the other on the in side starting just above his knee and ending about
halfway down his calf.
As a supposed Aelphkan, his thumb has an extra digit of length compared to humans and his

Has a wooden amulet on a string of leather (usually tucked into his shirt) that was given to
him by Linnet. Will occasionally rub his fingers over it absentmindedly. Piercing(s) ::

Good with his hands with a knack for figuring things out very quickly / Tinkerer (likes to modify
stuff) General Disposition ::
Stoic, serious, pessimistic Zenux. He is always expecting the world to be against him since
being made/considered outcast from childhood due to his odd appearance (gray hair = not
common + red eyes = suspicious-maybe-evil-dude ...s'far as Aelphkan society anyhow). He is
generally kind, though, and likes to help when people will let him. Other ::
Proficient with several hand-held weapons and has taken it on himself to train the girls to use
one. Wouldn't do to wander without a little knowledge of how to fight.
Relations to other characters::
:: Melissa ::
Comes to love her for her oddly easy acceptance of all the strangeness that she is exposed to
in Melfania, but mostly for her straightforward honesty. He is not shy of showing he cares for
her, but she tends to take some things another way and make any moment awkward before
dodging him.
Is the only one that generally doesn't call Melissa by her nickname... and the only person (other
than Tessa) that she tolerates this from.
:: Tessa ::
Treats her as a friend, but is often unsure about her intentions toward his brother and he has a
bad habit of getting defensive when she teases Aurin. Moreso when Okami jumps on the
bandwagon, but Zenux will jump on the Ulfken before arguing with Tessa- who Mel will probably
back up automatically and Aurin never seems to mind being teased enough to back Zenux
backing him.
So~ Confusing. xD
:: Aurin ::
They are twins, and fairly close. When he is feeling bitter, he may throw the unfair accusation
that Aurin's life was always easier than his (which while true in a way because Aurin's looks are
not strange as Z's are, it is a chance of birth and nothing either of them had control of), but they
share a strong bond and hold no real grudge between them.
:: Okami ::
Zenux tires of Okami easily. Often. And the fact that they both like Mel drives everyone's
favorite "rivalry" wedge between them. They rarely have a discussion that doesn't result in
name-calling (or where Okami is concerned "nameless"-calling) and/or minor insult-flinging.
Except over dinner where they usually ignore each other. No clue why this is.

Ulfken - They are the humanoid descendants of Melfania's wolves, returned from space when
Lulthriam returned the moons. A history I won't explain here, just note the "descendants of
wolves" bit, 'cause as it suggests, yes, he has wolf-related features. Eye Color/Shape :: #D1AF18 with black sclera / He has almond-shaped eyes, and yes, they are to be colored like
a wolf's eyes. So the iris takes up most of his eye. Skin/Scale Color ::
About like #704423. Hair/Fur Color ::
When I first created him, his hair was like #171021, but I have since changed him to a nice #20150F. If you want to give him his "retro" look, feel free to use the original color. :'3 Hair/Fur Length ::
Half-way down his shoulders. Hair/Scale Style ::
Okami has wavy, flowing, pretty hair that reaches his shoulders and he always wears it loose.
Always. ...unless maybe Mel or Tessa plays with it and binds it up.
It tapers some in the back so it is lower in the middle. At lowest tip it nestles exactly in the middle
of the wings of his shoulders. Height ::
5' 9 1/4" Body Type ::
He would be just~ on the ectomorphic edge of a mesomorph. His body is well-toned.
Let's just say he runs a lot. Scars/Birthmarks/Oddities of Species ::
Has a red -ish, shapeless birthmark on the wing of his right shoulder.
Has a scar from an old belly wound - light slashing marks from upper-left(HIS left) of abdomen
to hip at right (HIS right).
Has three scratched scars under his left eye, across the cheek, the bottom one least defined.
As one of the Ulfken, he has wolf-like ears, eyes, tail, and claws on both his hands and feet.
Ears and tail are the same color as his hair. Claws are black and not retractable. The soles of
his feet and palms of his hands are thick for rough terrain.
He does occasionally run on all fours. Clothing style ::
Clothing? What is this?
No, I kid. But yeah~ Okami wears skimpy stuff. Not because he doesn't believe in being
decently dressed, but because he comes from a culture that is naturally wild and so he tends
to shred through anything he's wearing. When freshly dressed, he'd go for soft pants and an
open, button-up shirt. After running around in them for a day or so, they'd be shorts, if not
reduced to a mockery of a loincloth, and he might~ still have the wristbands from the shirt
dangling on his wrists. Might.
To be fair, he takes a little more care not to shred through his clothes daily after he's joined
up with the group. But pretty much anything he's wearing will be sure to have some frayed
or ripped ends/bits at any given time.
No shoes, no underwear. No. You'll just have to be careful about keeping him covered if you
wanna go for the loincloth thing. Or invent some humorous story where Mel and/or Tessa
convince him to wear some undies for decency or something... Sounds like something they'd

His left ear is pierced three times. Two are onyx studs, one appears to be a dark, polished
wooden disc, but he swears it is a type of stone. All small enough you would have to be
within arm's reach to notice them, since they are dark gems against his dark hair anyway. Tattoo{s) ::
Has a "brand" of exile tattooed on his left shoulder. It's a swirly with 3 dots. Just go look at
the reference already. P; Occupation ::
n / a - There is no structure to his life since exile... until he joins up with the others. Then he's
Mel's self-proclaimed bodyguard, if ye must know. Talent/Hobby ::
He has a decent singing voice, actually. But he is shy of sharing it. It is one of few things he
is shy about. General Disposition ::
Energetic. Mischievous. Curious. He likes to get into things for no real reason than just to see
what happens. Most likely if there's a sign next to a button of doom that says "DO NOT PRESS,"
...well, we'd be doomed. Other ::
For some reason, he really REALLY doesn't like bread.
As one of the Ulfken, he has excellent night vision.
And~ here's a bit of Okami's history, because it's a possible excuse to draw him as a raving
mad man-beast:: He is sensitive to moon phases.
During certain times of the year, if the moon is full he can go into a berserk state with no
recollection of what he does during the night. This trait is not super common among the Ulfken,
because often when it shows among them, they will rally against and execute the "Mad Wolf,"
however his condition was long kept secret by his sister Akoraya (a lunar dancer- it's like a
priestess or wise-woman's position of sorts) by careful containment. Unfortunately, one season
he was not bound in time and injured her before wreaking some havoc. She plead for his life,
citing a prophecy (can't have a tribe/clan/thingy in a fantasy story without a prophecy. :'D), and
the Ulfken of his clan exiled him rather than kill him.
When in his crazed state, his pupils are always fully dilated. He also gets a mean sort of grin
that bares his canines... And he growls a lot. Though, that might be tough to sketch. xD;
Relations to other characters::
:: Melissa ::
He stakes a claim to her very early in the story, but she doesn't reciprocate. They are still
pretty close- 'cause he's just amusing to her, and she generally gets dragged along into messing
with random stuff.
Melissa is the one who named him "Okami," himself being exiled from his clan before he was
able to earn his name (It's a rite of passage). It is thought among the group that her naming
him is why he has chosen to stake a claim to her, but no one really knows for sure except him.
He is fiercely protective of her.
:: Tessa ::
He feels an odd kinship for Tessa and he worries about her for no reason he can fathom. He
tends to push her to test her strength and wit. A lot of the time this puts her at edge with him,
but they are otherwise friendly enough.
:: Aurin ::
Okami harbors respect for Aurin because of his worldly knowledge. But he also thinks that Aurin
is an idiot for not being direct about his feelings toward Tessa, and thus likes to pick on him about
it. There's no serious animosity here, but they're not best buddies either.
:: Zenux ::
Okami actually enjoys Zenux's company and thinks it is fun to have him as a romantic rival. He
respects Zenux's knowledge of firsthand combat and is often hoping to push him into a fight to
test himself versus Z's temper. Okami is aware that Zenux probably would never think of him as
a friend, but doesn't care. Still likes the guy.
- Freshly dressed and chewing on his shirt cuffs out of sheer boredom. x3
- Just noticing his shirt is missing, apart from part of the collar hanging around his neck,
looking utterly baffled.
I'm working on a thread full of world info here, but it is not yet complete.

Mel and Tessa got to the world through a portal in a closed off section of a usually empty
parking garage where they used to like to go and hang out and joke about the broken elevator
being haunted.
"Aelphkan" literally translated means "Of the sky." Because they (the Aelphkan) came from space
centuries ago.
Aurin and Zenux are actually children of one core creature of Melfania, Nerrick --the twins' father,
who resembles the Aelphkan-- and the homunculus Etcha-- their mother, who is perfectly modeled
after the Aelphkan.
Thus the twins' heritage makes them appear like the Aelphkan.
The cores are known as "Ancients" because they are part of the world, and therefore just as old
as it is. It is known that there is one core creature resembling each dominate species of the world.
If others exist, there is no knowledge of such yet.
The homunculus Etcha was created by Nerrick in a fit of obsession with his spaceship. He wanted
to create "perfect" children with her a.i. and his core's blood.
Okami suggests they are actually "Of the World" rather than "Of the Sky," using terms from the
Ulfken language: "Eruskana" rather than "Oulskana." This he picks up by scent, but never found
reason to say anything until they meet Mateus/Nerrick.
Probably the best way to easily describe the twins' appearance for humans would be to say they
look like the Fae Folk. Typically Elvish, mostly. xD!

so core blood is super rare and whatnot?

Core's blood is blood of the world itself, so yes, it is rare. There are eight known Ancients
of Melfania. S'far as we ever know, that's all there is or will be. They will live until the world
dies, or bring the world to death upon their demise.
Both. Their mother is artificial; their father is old blood.
Okami smells the old blood.
He has time to try to compare it before deciding on the terms he chooses to describe them.

Yup.
Mateus and Nerrick are split personalities. Nerrick was the one that created Etcha and
spawned Aurin and Zenux,.. but Nerrick is insane.
During one of his crazy periods, he killed his entire crew and attempted suicide because he
suspected someone was going to attempt to take over the Red (his ship/obsession/love).
During another one when he was younger he went cannibal on the people that had adopted him
when he was new to form- because one of them fretted over his eating habits when he stopped
in for a surprise visit, looking thin.

well, what caused them to change? was it them being taken to the world? they were just normal girls before? Or were they magical before and something unlocked their ability sending them to the world?
Who did they meet first? Is there a main plot? Bad guy? Crisis?

The world itself integrated them into it. They were normal girls before. In fact, they are not stereo typically like the Flame eaters, or the Myezun. This comes up at some point in their travels where they encounter their "kind".
They meet the twins first ...by literally falling on them.
I'm not certain yet if there is any one plot or a series of them. Other than Mel & Tessa trying to find a way home in general.
There is a bad guy of sorts for Okami, and a series of hardships for the twins as well as the girls.
And yes, one world-wide stability crisis, that would probably be the most major thing.

I suspected they were not "true" of those races, if they were normal in the beginning, but it would be believable if they were unique at first XP if that makes sense

They aren't supposed to be special. Humans simply don't exist on Melfania, so the world has altered them to allow their existence.
Yes, there is someone after Okami. Akoraya cited a prophecy to save his life, and it earns him enemies within an occult group, because of his supposed role in said prophecy. I'm not sure yet if I want him to truly fill that particular role, or if there will be another Ulfken to do so... but he probably will, due to the rarity of his brand of "madness."
The portals are related to the world crisis, and yes they do help with it. Though most of the work with that will be handled by the twins, given their heritage. Once they... figure stuff out.

There are the Aelphkan of course, who live very much like humans, only less techy weaponry now. ++ The Aelphkan are the pointy eared, fancy-thumb people the twins most resemble. Who came to Melfania from space centuries ago.
There is, as mentioned in Mel's post, a race of sentient spiders that make their home in the treetops of some forest I haven't decided the region for yet. Tropical climate there, though. They are often brilliant colors and generally pretty cool. Well... to me. You may not care to know. xD;
There are the adaptable Ulfken tribes, and the nearly feral Myezun clans both sporadically found around the world, but the Myezun are more nomad than the Ulfken. ++ The Ulfken are the wolfies. Who came back from space (where they were like space pirates, actually. They preyed on vessels bringing cargo to/from the planet and the Aelphkan's ships. Part of that history I chose not to elaborate on in Okami's post.) ++ The Myezun are mostly like big (humanoid) cats, and are on the verge of extinction for reasons I haven't learned yet.
There is a race of rock golems high in the mountains that generally live in isolation. ++ They are hive minds and a bunch of them live on EVERY mountain peak.
They believe themselves to be overseers/historians of the world, and guard their histories very carefully. ++The golems, as hive minded historians, don't feel any need for a leader among them. They
work together. In fact, they will often refer to themselves as one entity, even though they
aren't. I think. Pretty sure.
There are tiny amphibious peoples specific to each sea who are constantly warring against each other to claim total dominance of the oceans. ++ They are between a hand-span and a forearm's length. They have advanced civilizations in the deepest parts of the seas. Everything they have made is environment-friendly, so not to ruin the oceans they wish to conquer.
Smart warfare. ++ There are a couple of queendoms and one kingdom. By tradition they are ruled by a small council of women of noble blood with a chosen matriarch among them. The kingdom is an exception due to lineage ("only child of the line was male" sort of thing).
They are not frilly ladies like old fairy tale female nobility either. Too much war in their blood. More like Amazonian, but tiny and tech-savvy.
There is a special place that is home to spirit-like entities that are a sort of mockery/mirage likeness of the world depending on the person or group of persons that pass through the place. ++ It is Agnorine- the desert of moons, or the heart scar... depending on the people you ask about it.
It has important world history. ++ People don't generally go there. It is sacred ground of sorts, but it's also dangerous to anyone that doesn't know how to find AND stay on the only path through it.
There is a long-lived race of people I can't describe very well yet, but they can swim in the earth so tend to live under the ground.
