My sisters told me stories of humans. They said they sometimes sing to them to lure them underwater
~*I've been practicing. Want to hear?*~

☯...... My name is Leo
☯...... I am wasting money at a burger place.
☯...... I am feeling hungry/guilty.
☯...... I am in the presence of other customers

Leopold Firthing stood in front of his makeshift wardrobe, frowning at its contents. Tonight he was escorting some stuffed up CEO at a Halloween Ball in Goldsquare, and it was a black tie event. Finding something appropriate to wear wasn't an issue, as most of his dates were generous enough to provide him with designer duds for the occasions they needed him for. Tonight's date, however, was a cheapskate, and Leo normally wouldn't have even accepted, but there was a pair of beautiful leather pants that he had been eyeing for a few days now, and he had to have them. So he settled for Dave, because while he was not lavish, or particularly good looking, he always paid extra for a good night kiss, and he never got handsy.

Leo had it narrowed down to two suits, one cobalt blue, the other classic black. He decided to go with the black, because Dave wasn't the type to enjoy having all eyes on his date. Not that they wouldn't already all be on Leo, of course. Leo carefully packed his suit into a laundry bag, glancing down at his watch.

It was still pretty early, so he decided to grab a quick bite to eat before dropping his suit at the dry cleaners. Though the underground didn't actually smell like anything, Leo was paranoid that people could smell it on him, and so made sure to dry clean all of his clothes before the date. He changed from his comfy sweater and sleep pants into simple jeans, t shirt, and cardigan, and his favorite boots, never mind that they didn't quite go with the rest of his clothes. Suit in hand, along with a small backpack with his shoes and hair/face care supplies inside, he quickly and quietly navigated the familiar twists and turns until he got the the 'blocked' outside entry. The low gate and years old caution tape served more as a mental barrier then a real one, as the gate wasn't actually locked or anything.

Leo's usual dry cleaner was located in Central City, so he caught the bus, briefly panicking over the near emptiness of his wallet before reminding himself that he was getting paid tonight. Leo wasn't the best with money, and even without having to pay rent or utilities, he was almost always broke. Could he afford a nice apartment and regular meals with his income? Well, technically, but then he wouldn't be able to afford any of his clothes! And not only did Leo love his clothes, they were vital to his success at his job. No one was hiring boys in jeans and old t shirts to go to fancy dress parties, after all. You have to look the part to play the part.

The underground wasn't so bad, though. It wasn't drafty, like an old house was, and no one ever went down there, except for the Lost Boys and their ringleaders, and they never went out of there way to mess with his things. It happened occasionally, but for the most part, he was left alone. Leo sat at the very back of the bus, having learnt the hard way not to let anyone stand behind you unless you wanted to be pick pocketed or groped. It was maybe ten minutes later that the bus came to his stop, and he exited, rolling his eyes at the man who's arm his bag had jostled when he cleared his throat, clearly expecting an apology. He was headed towards his normal eatery, a vaguely New Age salad bar that, while pretty unappealing (kale and soy crumbles with oil and vinegar? Ew.) was within his typical restaurant budget, i.e. pocket change and lint. He was walking past some burger joint when the smell of fried things hit him. His mind and wallet were both screaming at him, while his stomach urged him forward, and he entered the building.

Immediately the smell of sizzling meat washed over him, and Leo had to bit back a groan. Oh, it was going to be so very bad for him, and be too expensive, and it'd take forever to get the smell of greasy food out of his skin and clothes, but as of this moment, he couldn't care less. He saw the place was a seat yourself kind of deal, and after a quick glance, chose a spot at the counter, a ways away from anyone else seated there. The menu was extensive, but after a quick look over, he decided on just a plain cheeseburger, no pickles, and a side salad. The prices were reasonable enough that Leo could actually afford to eat there a couple of times between dates, and no one eating there looked important enough that he cared whether or not they saw him shoving a burger into his face. Besides a few spotty teenagers in a corner booth, most of the customers were old people and families. And at the counter were two people about his age, a pretty sort of boy, and a girl who was, putting it frankly, rudely attractive. Like, an 'even if I were straight I wouldn't be comfortable dating you because I need to be the prettiest one in a relationship and I'm not confident I would be if we dated' kind of attractive. He either needed to befriend this girl or kill her. He couldn't have this kind of competition roaming around without knowing anything about it. Leo was three seats down from her, so he whisper-shouted to get her attention.

"Psst! Sorry to interrupt, but could I borrow your ketchup? Mine's fresh out, I'm afraid."
He smiled sunnily at her. "I'm Leo, by the way!"

~*I've been practicing. Want to hear?*~

☯...... My name is Leo
☯...... I am at a meeting at Deo, Mariae, and Micheali Law Offices.
☯...... I am feeling confident.
☯...... I am in the presence of Guan Yin Li

Leo's ride on the elevator was quick and smooth, a soft beep informing him that he had reached his destination. He scanned the door numbers as he passed them in the hallway, repeating the number of his potential client in his head over and over again until he reached it. Leo checked his watch, and saw that he had exactly five minutes to spare, not too early, and not late. He set his bag off to the side after taking out a plain manila folder, knowing its plain grey, slightly scuffed appearance would not win him any points with his potential, and knocked on the door, which was slightly ajar. inside the office was a huge desk, belaying the minimalist sort of feel the office had. The computer alone probably cost more then Leo's entire wardrobe of not inexpensive clothing twice over. Seated behind the desk was a woman, who exuded a sort of superiority, both morally and intellectually. She was exactly as Mila had described in the past, yet also more.Though she was sitting, Leo could tell he had about five inches on her, height wise, but she managed to tower over him in spirit.

"Ms. Li, I'm Leo Firthing, I'm here for our meeting."
Leo entered and took a seat across from Guan Yin, eager to cut to the chase. He placed the folder on the desk. She didn't seem to think much of Leo, but he didn't let that deter him, only sat straighter, and maintained eye contact. People weren't naturally inclined to think much of a male escort, after all. They looked at him and saw a rebelling teenager who needed to be saved or be jailed, not an adult who was capable of making his own choices.

"That has all my information- proof of age, contact info, emergency contact info, et cetera. It's $300 for the night, if you want kissing, that's extra. I don't do sex, I don't engage in any kinky business."
This was where Leo usually lost new clients. No matter how pretty Leo was, some people just couldn't grasp the concept of paying someone to go on a sexless, kissless date. But Leo had his limits, and the day he accepted money in exchange for sex was never going to come. Especially not with a woman client.

"I don't get picked up or dropped off anywhere near my home, I don't do refunds, and I don't work for clingy people who want to save me from my 'tragic life'."
Ugh, that was the worst part of Leo's job. every month he got no less then four offers to become a client's personal escort. They offered him everything- shelter, fine clothing, travel- but he never accepted. Every offer reminded him of the man he'd met when he first woke up, how he 'deserved' Leo's affections because he had helped him. Living in an abandoned underground, with fewer friends then he had fingers on one hand was preferable to ever owing someone, or not being in control. With Leo's method, everything was in his control. No one could take advantage. He gestured to the folder.

"The contract is in there, along with pictures of the suits I currently own. I normally wear this one,"
He pointed to the black one he'd dropped at the cleaner's. "to these kind of events, but if you see one you prefer, I will of course wear that one." Along with the black suit there was a cobalt blue one, and grey one, and another black one, but with a bowtie instead of a skinny tie. There was also a maroon one, but no one ever chose it.

"I'll let you look over everything before we move on to the subject of payment, if you think I'm what you want."

Leo studied the extensive contract before him, nodding along to Ms. Li's words. This wasn't his first gag order, after all, though certainly the most ironclad. But he would have expected nothing less from the woman in front of him. He smirked a little at her not so thinly veiled threat pertaining to what would happen if he revealed anything he heard during the night.

"Ms. Li, I can assure you that I have about as much interest in your business and private life as you do in mine."
There had been a time when Leo wouldn't have thought twice about selling off the information he gleaned during his dates, but after the first few times, he found it just wasn't worth it. Espionage did horrible things to his skin, and honestly, it was boring. 'Ooh, this business man sold that business man this many shares in that stock when he should have given half of those shares to THAT business man instead'. Ew. Leo signed the contract with his usual flourish, almost wanting to dot the 'i' in his last name with a little heart or smiley face, just to irritate the woman, but he resisted, and set the pen next to the papers.

"Well, I think that's that contract wise, now to payment. As I established before, it's $300 for the night, to be paid in full, at the end of the evening. I only do cash, as that tends to weed out the majority of creeps."
He'd been burned before by fake checks, and he wasn't dumb enough to leave a paper trail by getting a bank account. What little savings he had, mostly change found in his pockets at the end of the day, was tucked away under his bathroom sink in an old tampon box. Not that he thought they would dare, but even if the Lost Boys happened upon Leo's home, they wouldn't touch something like feminine hygiene products.

"Well, I'm all set on my end, so I'll take my leave. You know how to reach me if anything should come up."
Leo smiled and stood, inclining his head in farewell. He left the office, grabbing his bag as he headed for the elevator. Once safe inside the enclosed lift, he leaned against the wall heavily and sighed. That woman was terrifying. But she was a paying customer, so he could deal with it for one night.

Leo left the imposing building, and a gust of sharply cold air hit him. He shivered, and rubbed his hands together to keep them warm. He turned a corner and headed to the King's Head, needing a nice warm drink, preferably alcoholic. It was a fairly short walk away, so Leo didn't bother trying to hail a cab, or waiting for a bus. He didn't really like the cold all that much, especially the winter. He liked his water warm and bright, not dull and frozen, thank you very much. Not that there was much opportunity to in the city, Leo loved to swim. A frequent customer of Leo's, Dave, had taken Leo to the beach on a business trip once, and said that Leo had never seemed more real then when he was in the water.

The King's Head was very crowded tonight, the low din of people talking audible from outside the building, and the noise doubled when Leo pulled the door open and slipped inside. Most of the tables were full or too large for one person to take up by themselves, so Leo opted for a seat at the bar. A quick flip through his wallet revealed a whopping $7. Which meant that Leo was going to have to get creative if he wanted any alcohol tonight. He passed pretty easily for 21, rarely getting carded, and on a crowded night like tonight, everyone would be too busy to pay attention. Leo waved a bartender over and ordered a rum and coke, and sure enough the frazzled looked woman barely glanced at his face before giving him his order. He took a sip of the drink and turned in his seat to peruse the patrons. He spotter several familiar faces, including Ms. Mila's, and a girl who lived in the same neighborhood as Addy. Mila was talking with another woman, and Leo knew she had a meeting with Ms. Li soon. If anything interesting was being said, he knew she would tell him about it at a later date, so he didn't bother eaves dropping. A guy in the corner of the room was seemingly caressing the table, not with feline grace, but with feline laziness. He honestly wasn't sure if the man was really really drunk, or just really really odd. The lazy cat man got boring after a few minutes though, so Leo continued his watching. The girl from Addy's neighborhood, Lily, or Daisy, or something- some kind of plant- was being hit on pretty heavily by Finn, who Leo saw sometimes with Penn and Tink, and their brood of dirty children. Boring. But then Walsh came over and after a few seconds, the three of them went into a backroom. Leo smirked into his drink. Kinky.

Jesus, this guy spoke like he came straight out of a Shel Silverstein book!
"Oh, I'm afraid your sources are way off, darling! I value my body very much indeed. I mean, have you seen it?" Leo gestured at himself.

"And is bragging not the utmost source of pleasure for rich old men? They show off cars, and mansions, and watches, all things they pay for. Why wouldn't they brag about me? I say, let them brag and exaggerate. They get the admiration and envy they desire, I get paid. It's win-win, Kat!" Leo shrugged, resting his head on his hand.

"Besides, men are idiots. They forget I have ears while they stare at my a**. If they knew the things they reveal when they're with me... Well, they'd be much more careful about angering me. I could end the careers of five officers with one phone call; Well, I'm not positive I could, but I imagine it's frowned upon to talk about how ******** you find the lead detective at the annual police ball, in graphic detail. And the marriages. Oh, the marriages I could crush. Once I doublebooked a married couple, just for fun." Leo yawned, and downed the last of his drink. This guy clearly wanted something from Leo, though he couldn't tell what. He didn't seem like he wanted sex, and he certainly wasn't a potential customer. If Leo were a sentimental, or empathetic person, he would have thought he just wanted a friend. But Leo wasn't a total moron, so the thought never entered his mind.

"I am very tired, and just a little drunk,"
Leo had no shame about being a lightweight- he got drunk for a fraction of the money it took most people! "So if you want something, you're gonna have to dumb it down for me a little, 'kay, kitty cat?" He mostly just didn't want to have to decipher anymore of this weirdo's riddles, to be honest. He stood from his seat, giving his companion a little salute.

"Well, it's been weird, vaguely insulting, and I still don't actually know how you know my name. You're pretty cute; if you ever need my services, I might just toss you a freebie."
Leo smirked, before heading towards the door.

It wasn't particularly late in the night, but Leo always made sure to get a full night's sleep before his dates. He had a ways to go, navigating the streets and alleys with ease. Leo rolled his eyes at the older woman who glared distrustingly at him before crossing the street so she wouldn't have to walk near him. She was at least 40, wearing a sequined dress and platform heels, but he was the one to avoid? She walked the streets nightly, he knew because he saw her every night on his way home. She sold her body for a third of what Leo's company went for, she didn't have the right to judge him.

When Leo finally made it home, he flopped onto his bed, face first. His bed was a crappy old futon, which clashed severely with the lavish sheets and blankets and pillows that covered it, making it quite comfortable. He kicked his shoes off, wiggled around on his bed until his jeans joined his shoes, and pulled the fluffiest blanket over his body, cocooning himself in the soft fabric.

With: Jem Where: Home Wearing: Bo- Weekend

The alarm clock began to shriek at exactly 5:50am. Bo LaFelle flopped an arm out from his blanket coccoon and fumbled for the snooze button. Now wide awake, through no fault of his own, mind you, Bo extracted his awkwardly long limbs from the multitude of bedding he'd buried himself under during the night and shuffled to the bathroom. After relieving himself, he brushed his teeth and did his hair, and then got ready for work. Just as he was tying his right shoe, Jem stumbled from her bedroom, still more then half asleep, and entered the bathroom, shutting the door behind with as much care as a severely hung over college student. He shook his head and smiled, amused by his sister's morning mood.

Bo was in the kitchen flipping pancakes when Jem finished getting ready, and she sat down at the kitchen counter with a drawn out groan. The wall clock read 7:30am.

“Morning, puddin' pop! Fetch me the syrup and butter from the fridge, please. And can you read what's on the schedule for today?” He flipped the last of the pancakes onto the two plates by the stove, and turned off the burner.

“Why can't you do it, Bo? You're much closer then I am...” Jem mumbled, resting her head on her folded arms. He rolled his eyes.

“So dramatic, Jem. One would think you've never woken up this early before!” He ruffled her pale blonde hair, laughing as she shoved him away with a huff. Bo Risky Businessed his way to the fridge and grabbed the syrup and butter, before nudging it closed with his hip. As he passed the cupboards he reached up and got the nutella, too.

“Syrup and butter or nutella today, bug?”

“Both!!” Bo raised an eyebrow, but Jem didn't budge. He narrowed his eyes, trying to stare her into acquiescence, but the six year old just rolled her eyes.

As Jem triumphantly scarfed down her sugary concoction of butter, syrup, and nutella, Bo checked the calender. It was huge, the size of a bulletin board, and he loved it. Every tiny detail about their life was laid out weeks in advance on the calender.

“It looks like today's another busy one, Bug. You've got jazz after your playdate with Annie at 5pm, not 6, because Ms. Jaimes has that dentist appointment. I've got work from 3:30pm to nine, so Annie's mom is going to take you to dance, and I'll pick you up on my lunch break. But you have to go straight to bed tonight, okay? No staying up until 10 watching Iron Chef and then bragging about it to your friends on Monday, got it?” Jem nodded from where she stood at the sink, washing her hands. He put their dirty plates in the dish washer, and put away the pancake fixings.

“I'm supposed to bring a snack for the tea party, remember Bo?” Jem had a knack for forgetting to remind Bo of things like field trips and when it was her turn to supply a snack, which was part of the reason Go's genius calender was such a lifesaver. He refused to send her to school or playdates with store bought snacks. She didn't have a parent at home, but by God, she would have fresh snacks. He handed her her skull and crossbones backpack and tried to help her with her hello kitty winter coat, only to be batted away by tiny, deceptively strong hands.

“I remembered! There's banana nutella sandwiches in your backpack, along with some peanut butter cookies. Which means you cannot use your backpack as a footrest or pillow, or whatever it is you do that turns your lunches into pancakes! Are you all ready to go?" She nodded, skipping off to the front door. Bo grabbed his own backpack, phone, and wallet, and followed her. He took his keys from where they hung on a hook, and both of their helmets. Jem insisted on putting her helmet on by herself, only allowing Bo to help when he pointed out that she had it on backwards. Bo locked the front door and, after making sure Jem was properly seated in the sidecar, they were off.

                                                      TIME SKIP

After dropping Jem off at Annie's house, Bo drove around a bit, enjoying the odd looks he got from people sitting in toasty warm cars, unable to comprehend why someone would look at the weather and think 'now that right there's some prime scooter time'. He still had a few hours until he could clock in to work without getting in trouble for working too much. So Bo headed for Jackson Railroad, one of his favorite places to take pictures. It's not technically allowed, him being there, but it's also not not allowed, so he figured it was fine. Besides, Bo's tall enough that the younger kids see him coming and book it, assuming he's a security guard, or cop, or other authority figure, so really, he's doing more good then bad.

Bo snapped pictures with all the finesse and talent of a newborn giraffe. It drives his photography teacher insane, but this 'method' allows Bo to capture some shots that, if he was looking for them, he would never have found.

He took pictures of everything, the sky, old decrepit signs, chainlink fences with large holes in them... His favorite shot was one of a bird, just a plain old pigeon, flying just so that as it passed under the sun, it was pitch black, and looked much more impressive then it had ten seconds later, when it flew into an electric pole.

Bo spent maybe an hour, taking pictures, wide smile on his face. He knew he had at least a dozen he could present Ms. Lily with on Monday, so he packed up his camera and hopped into his scooter, headed back into town.

By the time he got back he had a few minutes until his shift began, so he parked in front of the coffee shop and headed in.

With: No One Where: Brewed Awakening Wearing: Bo- Weekend

Bo sighed, having just finished a six drink order, and let his head fall to the counter with a soft thoomp. He didn't mind working weekends, or mornings, but working weekend mornings? Dear god, why? What could he, perfect, innocent, cinnamon bun Bo have done to deserve two weeks of weekend morning shifts in a row? Another customer, a John Green wannabe, if the laptop and ironic comic tee were anything to go by, came in, heading straight for the seat closest to the window. Bo watched as he painstakingly arranged his belongings so that from every angle one could clearly see his open word document, blank notepad, and retro tape player. When the man finally sat down, just before he could start typing, Bo grabbed the fresh pot of coffee and popped up by his table, cheerful smile in place.

"Well hi there! What can I get you?" He glanced down at the man's set up as if just noticing it.

"Oh, are you a writer? We hardly ever get any writers in here!" The man mumbled a response, before requesting a black coffee with six sugars. With a slight raise of his eyebrows, Bo filled the man's empty mug, and brought him a table caddy with sugar and sugar alternative. He smiled again. The guy was pretty shy, never really meeting Bo's eyes, or even looking at his face. Bo might have thought he was shy because he was attracted to him, but the man was way older then Bo, and was wearing a wedding ring. He was just skittish

"There you go, sir! Let me know if you need anything else!" The man, faintly blushing, thanked Bo before he went back to the register.

He knew he could talk to Kara about the frequency of this shift on his schedule, but he got better tips on the weekend before noon, so it was fine. No that Bo and Jem were lacking in the financial area, Dad made sure they were comfortable, but between Jem's never ending growth spurt, the stupidly expensive film Bo couldn't go without, and the fact that between them they tore through a jar of nutella a day, a little extra cash was helpful.

As always, the shop started to slow down around lunchtime. At 11am no one was there besides him and the kitchen people, (Bo was banned forever from the kitchen. Apparently plastic trays don't go in the oven. Who knew?) and he'd just wiped down all the tables and counters for a second time. He'd just resigned himself to taking out the trash when his phone buzzed with a text.

                                                      To: Bo
                                                      From: Annie's Mother
Text: Did you try to send baked goods with Jemima again?

His phone buzzed again, and an picture popped up. He laughed, shaking his head.

                                                      To: Annie's Mother
                                                      From: Bo
Text: An attempt was made, yes. I could send her off with food in a steel briefcase and it would still end up smushed by her feet!

Bo then fired off a quick text to Everett.

                                                      To: Mount Everett <3
                                                      From: Bo
Text: I'm so boooooored... Why am I always working alone on weekends??? crying

Just as Bo sent the text, the Crap I Still Have Ten Hours Left Before Bed I Need Food And Coffee NOW crowd poured in at a steady trickle, keeping him consistently busy.

The customers were more lively then the early morning bunch, everyone talking about either the Valentine's dance or the concert. Bo didn't plan on attending either, though the thumping bass from White Rabbit would be the soundtrack to the last couple hours of his shift. Which was fine. He didn't have a date anyways, and while there are some dances you can go stag to, a Valentine's Day dance stag just seemed... Sad. But between work and Jem, he wouldn't even miss it!

Bo worked quickly, making drinks, taking orders, and serving people with ease.

"I've got a Caramel Vanilla Latte for Jay-hon?" Bo called out, holding up the latte, which was in a baby pink mug, with a little smiley face drawn in the foam. An older man, maybe 45, in a suit and tie, stood cautiously, as if debating whether or not he had been called.

"It's John." Bo shrugged, handing over the drink. What, he had to do something to keep himself entertained, didn't he?

OOC: There it is! I'm not sure what time it is in the RP, so I made sure what time this post is taking place at is kind of ambiguous.

Emma adjusted the straps on her backpack, tuning out her mother's frantic worrying and skittering around. Her parents had debated endlessly for months about letting Emma attend Beacon Hills High School, torn between the comforting knowledge that Emma was safe at home, and the fear that keeping her isolated would lead to their biggest nightmare- rebellion. Just the thought of it- belly button rings, drinking, sneaking out, running away... Just the thought of it sent her parents into a panic! So they'd reluctantly enrolled her at the high school, with a few rules, of course.

"Mom, I seriously doubt someone's gonna come up to me in the hallway and offer me cocaine. I've got mace in my backpack, my blood type is AB-, and I have your phone number written on my arm in sharpie!" Emma held her arm out to demonstrate, the familiar number neatly printed on her left inner arm. "The only way I could be any safer is if you send me to school in a plastic bubble! It'll be fine Mom, I promise. I won't even stay after school, I'll come straight home!" Emma hugged her mom tightly, tighter then a normal 13 year old could, and dashed to the front door. "Love you, bye!" Then she was gone.

Emma rode her bike to school, music blaring from her headphones. Other students also made their way to school, small packs of them biking or walking, beat up cars transporting groups of them. Everyone, even students her age, seemed to have friends already, which worried Emma. She'd been homeschooled since she was five, and rarely got to interact with kids her age. She had one friend, a boy, who lived on her street and was also homeschooled. It was his moving away that triggered Emma's need for more social interaction. Well, that and the fact that her only packmate anywhere near her own age went to BHHS, and she still wasn't ready to go a full day without a pack member nearby to anchor her.

Emma chained her bike to the rack by the entrance of the school, rolling her eyes at the boring bikes by hers. Emma's bike was baby blue, with a hot pink basket, transferred to her two wheeler from the tricycle she had when she was little. Stickers covered every available inch of frame, some so faded you couldn't tell what they were supposed to be. She supposed she would get flack for her childish bike, but she didn't care.

The halls of the schools were wide, and full of rambunctious teenagers. Emma pulled the paper out of her pocket holding her locker number and combo, and when she found hers, her eyes almost rolled out of her head

"Seriously? You're making out in front of my locker? Am I the outcast nerd in an 80's movie? Move it!"
Emma shoved the older and taller teens out of the way while they stared in shock. Her combination worked properly, and she shoved her backpack in it, after removing her textbook and binder, and jogged to her first class, Geometry.

T I M E S K I P

Emma exited her last class, bored out of her mind. She'd read through all of her textbooks during the summer, so she wouldn't be so far behind everyone else, only to discover that she was probably the only person in any of her classes who'd even cracked the books open, teachers included in some cases. Emma left the school quickly, biking to the park. She felt antsy in her skin, like there was something she had to do, and forgot about whatever it was. She leisurely biked along the walking path, sticking her tongue out at the irritated jogger moms, with their weird triangular strollers. She passed her fellow packmate Cliff, slowing down slightly and saluting cheekily.

"Good afternoon, young sir!"

Peter was definitely not cut out for parenthood. When Social Services had shown up on his doorstep three months ago, and dropped a four year old in his lap, along with the news that he was a father, her mother was dead, and he was the kid's only living relative. That's not something one prepares for. So things had been mostly trial and error. The first thing Peter had done was call his mother, and she, after shrieking with joy (she was one of those moms that started demanding grandchildren the day you turn 18 ) promptly hopped on the next plane down. She'd been a lifesaver, showing him how to grocery shop, enrolling Juno into preschool, even helping them move from Peter's sad little apartment to a house big enough for a growing child and her clueless father. Juno wasn't a shy kid, and adjusted quickly to her 'dumb Daddy'.

Peter's mother returned home last month, and Peter thought he was doing pretty well on his own. It was the night before Easter, and Peter had slaved over creating the perfect basket for Juno. The ribbons were yellow and green, left over from work, and the basket was plain light wicker, but he was weirdly proud of it. It was currently hid in the back of the hall closet, guaranteed not to be discovered by curious four year olds because Juno was convinced there was a monster hiding in it.

He was in the kitchen cleaning up from dinner, and Juno was in the living room, engrossed in Wheel of Fortune. She was lying on the couch, yelling random letters at the contestants, laughing at them when they went bankrupt. Peter put the last plate in the dishwasher and used his foot to close the door, before turning it on.

"Let's go put on PJ's, kiddo. Gotta go to sleep if you want the Easter Bunny to come!" He turned the tv off and scooped her up, tossing her over his shoulder while she giggled madly.

***

Hours later, Juno was fast asleep, and the house was silent. He didn't turn on the lights as he pulled the basket from the closet, not wanting to wake her. Peter tiptoed past her ajar bedroom door, and then stood in the dining room, trying to think of a good place to hide it, one that would be easy for her to find, but clever enough that she'd have to work for it a bit.

He decided to hide it in one of the cupboards under the kitchen counter, which was Juno's favorite hide and seek hiding place. He headed for the kitchen, watching for the squeaky floorboard -Juno had the hearing of a crochety old woman- and admiring his beautiful basket. It really was very nice, if he did say so himself.

***

There was a man in his kitchen. Drinking his beer. There was a man in his kitchen drinking his beer. Peter had dropped the basket, and now held a wooden rolling pin, brandishing it threateningly at the beer thief.

"What the hell! Why are- how did you even get in here?! Who are you? What do you want!?" he whisper-shouted, not wanting to wake his daughter. He looked the intruder over, noting in the back of his mind that the man was kind of rudely attractive. He squinted at the man's head. The fridge did not provide decent lighting, but it looked like...

"Are you... Wearing bunny ears?"

Harper Brown was late. Of course. Late for work, late paying rent, again, just late in general. His landlord was outside, pounding on the door and demanding his money in rapid Russian. Harper's Russian was extremely iffy, but what his landlord was threatening to do to him sounded illegal in like, at least four states. He scarfed down a bowl of only sort of stale cereal, pulling on his uniform between bites. While he brushed his teeth he made sure all of the deadlocks he'd added when he first moved in where secured and turned off the tv, cutting the news reporter off mid sentence about the two supers that'd had gone missing over the weekend.

"Sorry, Chekovsky, I'll have it for you tonight, I promise!" Harper pushed his ratty love seat in front of the door, hoping that between the seven deadlocks, and the weight of the furniture, Chekovsky would get discouraged and leave. He grabbed his phone from the kitchen counter, put his cereal bowl in the sink, and phased through the four floors it took to reach the 'lobby' of the building. Harper half walked half ran to the bus stop, slumping in defeat when it pulled away from the curb just as he reached the stop.

"Well, I guess we're walking today, Harpo. great..." He would definitely be late now. He glared up at the stupid sun, brightly shining. Now I'm gonna be late, AND sweaty.

Harper was almost to work when he came up on a large crowd of people, all shouting and waving signs. Before he could ask what was going on, a guy with dark hair and covered nearly head to toe in activist paraphernalia thrust a flyer into his hands, moving on to the next passerby in less then seconds. Well okay, then. Harper kind of envied the guy's bravery. Here he couldn't even confront his landlord without stuttering or experiencing a small anxiety attack, and this guy was holding rallies and protests, giving speeches and stuff.

However inspiring the protest thing was, though, Harper was still late for work, and he wasn't even close to the resort. So he slowly made his way through the crowd, avoiding brushing up against the protestors with little success. He was half tempted to just phase through them all, but that would probably attract attention, especially at a pro super rally. So he took his time navigating his way through the crowd, apologizing every time he touched someone. He thought he saw one of the kids from the childcare place he volunteered at, but whoever it was disappeared in the crowd. Harper glanced down at his watch. he was now six minutes late for his 10 0' clock shift. Dammit, I'm not gonna have any time to super subtly study Hot Bouncer's arms. Harper huffed, earning him a glare from the girl in front of him with violently pink hair.

Harper was maybe ten yards away when the blast came. Instinctively he formed a force field around himself and the few pedestrians near him, shielding them from the explosion.

People everywhere were screaming and crying, all trying to get away from the blast site. So of course Harper was heading towards it. Because he was an idiot.

He ran back to the crowd, his intangible form making navigating the horrific scene before him less traumatic. The same guy from before, with the flyers, was of course helping people, teleporting them in small batches out of danger. Harper led people away, pointing them in the direction of the ambulance sirens, which were coming closer, and should have been there any minute. However, just as they rounded the street corner, they came to a stop.

"Why aren't they coming closer? Half of these people can't even w-" Harper got his answer. Gunshots rang out, coming from just about every possible direction. Immediately he threw his hands up, puttting up as large of a force field as he could manage while still keeping it strong enough to withstand the barrage. He looked around frantically for the teleporter.

"Hey! I've got these people covered, but I can't keep a shield this size up for very long!" And by 'for very long', he meant, 'This shield is coming down in like thirty seconds'. He tried to practice his powers regularly, but there's a difference between keeping yourself dry in the rain, and protecting a bunch of people from gunfire. A big one. And the crowd was no help of course, all pushing and shoving, trying to get further under the field. It wavered slightly when someone behind him was pushed into his back, breaking his concentration.

"Um, if everyone could just stay still, please, it's kind of hard to keep this up with you all distracting me!" He yelled, voice frazzled.

                                                              ...

Great. Now he had a crowd of scared, angry people, yelling at him. Between the unrelenting gunfire, and the terrified crowd, it was turning out to be one hell of a Monday. And now, he was super definitely late for work.

                                                              Awesome.

Winnifred Jones stood on a bench, looking for all the world like just another protester. Her dirty blonde hair was tied into twin braids, and she had on a baseball cap with NOH8 plastered all over it. But anyone who knew her, knew that this was not the case. In fact many of the people here would probably freak if they realized that the same little girl waving a handmade poster board sign was in fact, Nightmare. There were plenty of rumours about her alter ego: Nightmare's a myth, Nightmare's a double agent actually trying to take down Kronos from the inside, Nightmare's a tiny man, Nightmare once punched Chuck Norris in the gonads... Okay, so maybe she'd tried to spread that last one, and maybe it hadn't caught on, but that was beside the point. The point was, people feared her. She wasn't like the other supers under Kronos' thumb, doing it for money, or because they were being forced or blackmailed. She did because she wanted to do it. And she was good, very good, at her job.

Fred looked down at her Strawberry Shortcakes watch, nodding to herself. It was time! She didn't know who was in charge of setting off the bomb, but she knew her orders well. She hopped off of the bench, and skipped past the protesters until she was smack in the middle of the large crowd. Fred counted down the last ten seconds under her breath.

"Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five... four... three... two... one and a half... one... Boom!"

The sound, although the bomb wasn't meant to result in any casualties (not that Fred would get in the way of fate, of course), was near deafening. She smiled serenely, and closed her eyes. The fear came slowly, as it always did. Fear was not an emotion that could be rushed. It built and built, and what was already an abundance of fear became a supernova. There was no order, so sense of calm. Only fear, and crippling terror. She spun in small circles, as if she was playing in the snow. Her small stature made her near invisible to the people around her, but to those who cared to look, she did not appear to be a child, but a demon, with blackened skin, and cruel, sharp teeth. She began to laugh, and the chilling sound of her childish giggles melded with the screams of pain and terror. The more fear she created, the wilder her laughter became, less now that of a child's and closer to a hyena.

Her work done, Fred opened her eyes, and in seconds they faded from cruel red to clear, bright blue. She brushed the soot and debris from her dress, pouting when a bleeding man brushed up against her. She grabbed his arm.

"Look at what you've done! Now it's ruined!!" She glared up at the man, who looked dazed. Her eyes slowly bled back to red, and she focused solely on his fear. "I'm going to ruin you, now." Then she siphoned fear into him, until he collapsed. She would have kept going, but she had strict orders to not kill anyone. So Fred dropped the man's limp arm, and stuck her tongue out at him, before making her exit.

                                                                    With⇉ [Protesters]

Herro~"So That'll be one non fat double espresso with room, one cranberry biscotti, and three sugar free hot chocolates, yeah?" The frazzled looking woman nodded, not even phased by the three young boys tearing through the shop like tiny demon spawn. Aria Heralds rang up the woman's order, and went to get the woman's biscotti while she got out her wallet, throwing in a couple extra ones on the house. The poor thing looked like she needed more then a couple free cookies, but it was all Aria could do. The woman and her parade of sticky boy children left soon, and Aria was alone. It was pretty quiet at the coffee shop, too late for normal people to be drinking coffee, and too early for the hipsters.

Herro~Aria wiped down the counters and tables, swept the floors, and replaced the baked goods in the display case. Another customer, a John Green wannabe, if the laptop and ironic comic tee were anything to go by, came in, heading straight for the seat closest to the window. Aria watched as he painstakingly arranged his belongings so that from every angle one could clearly see his open word document, blank notepad, and retro tape player. When the man finally sat down, just before he could start typing, Aria grabbed the fresh pot of coffee and popped up by his table, cheerful smile in place.

"Well hi there! What can I get you?" She glanced down at the man's set up as if just noticing it.

"Oh, are you a writer? We hardly ever get any writers in here!" The man mumbled a response, before requesting a black coffee with six sugars. With a slight raise of her eyebrows, Aria filled the man's empty mug, and brought him a table caddy with sugar and sugar alternatives. He smiled again. The guy was pretty shy, never really meeting Aria's eyes, or even looking at her face.

"There you go, sir! Let me know if you need anything else!" The man, faintly blushing, thanked Aria before she went back to the register.

Herro~As always, the shop started to slow down around bedtime. At 10pm, no one was there besides her and the kitchen people, (Aria was banned forever from the kitchen after last week. Apparently plastic trays don't go in the oven. Who knew?) and she'd just wiped down all the tables and counters for a second time.

"I held out as long as I could." She said, before reaching into her apron pocket and pulling out her phone, leaning up against the counter, ready to pop up and look productive if a customer came in. She had three new emails, and opened the first one, which was not at all worrisomely titled 'ARIA!!!!!1!!'. From her mother, of course.

Aria, dear, look at this nice boy I found on Craigslist!
He's a doctor and a millionaire, and his picture is very promising!!1
Also dear, when are you coming to visit? We haven't seen you since New Year's!

Attached was a link to a craigslist ad. Aria sighed and closed the email, not even bothering to click the link. She got emails like that at least twice a week from her mother, always titled with something hugely misleading. The other two emails were spam, and she deleted them, along with her mother's.

"Nope, sorry mom, I didn't get your creepy murderer email! So weird!" Aria mumbled to herself, checking her text messages.

Harper Brown stood in front of the building's glass doors, gaze flicking from the door handle to the hand print scanner to the two foot high stack of files he had in his arms. Great. That's just great. He looked around, checking for any people around, before letting the familiar ripple of intangibility flow over his body, being sure to get the files too, as the last thing he wanted to do this late was sit in front of his father's business, resorting dozens of files. He'd never live it down! Harper passed through the doors easily, and not a file was shifted. With a mental self five, he continued on his way, passing by people easily.

The file room was just straight down the hall, and when Harper came to the door, and saw what could mean termination for whoever left it this way. (Termination of job, not life.) The door, typical of all internal DynaTech doors, required id via handprint and password. Bathroom doors, even, had these same weirdly defensive security measures. But someone, probably a temp, had left it open. It was weird, but Harper was skilled at ignoring weirdness. So he nudged the door further open with his hip, and once he was inside the room, he made sure to close it properly. Didn't want some wacko thinking they kept millions of dollars hidden in with the filing cabinets and trying to rob them!

With a perhaps slightly overdramatic sigh, he dropped the files onto the small round table, the poor thing's thin legs quaking under the weight.

"I hate filing, yes I do, I hate filing, how 'bout you..." he sang under his breath as he grabbed the first section of file, turning to put them in the proper cabinet. He wasn't expecting there to be someone already in that cabinet, of course. Harper gave a very undignified shriek and whacked the person over the head with the file folders. Repeatedly. Not his proudest moment. The person wasn't dressed like a criminal however, (though who could tell, theses days) so Harper relented with his folder assault.

"Jesus Anne Christ, you scared the crap out of me."The guy didn't look familiar, so it was unlikely that he was a temp or regular employee, as Harper knew most of them, at least by face. Which also made it much less likely that the door had been left open by some uninformed temp. "Are you trying to rob us? Just because we're the financial branch doesn't mean we have the money!" He raised his folders threateningly.

"I'm warning you, There are like, a billion security guards here. And this isn't even one of the important buildings! Whatever you're looking for, I swear you won't find it here, so go, before someone sees you!" Plus, if he tried anything funny, Harper could just phase out of the room and leave him for the guards, but Harper didn't really like using his powers in front of cat burglars. Just a personal preference.

The tutor- Parfait never bothered to learn her name, something with an A, he thought- was stood at the front of the absurdly small classroom, droning on about... Something. Gods and goddesses, and things with no real importance to modern day life. Parfait leaned back in his chair, balancing on the back two legs, and glanced around the room. Kalype looked just about as interested as he felt. The ever dimwitted twins were enraptured, giving the tutor the same rapt attention that small children being read a fairybook give their nannies. Pathetic, honestly. Parfait let his chair fall back onto four legs, the sharp crack of solid wood hitting polished stone echoing through the room, startling one of the blonde idiots, and garnering him a sharp glance from the tutor, who paused her reading.

"Oops." He winked at her, noting the way the woman's jaw clenched. He could practically hear her teeth grinding from across the room. Parfait sat straight in his seat, and gestured for her to continue with a faintly dismissive wave of his hand. As she did so, he leaned over his nearly full sheet of parchment, absentmindedly taking notes. Tedious and boring as it was, Parfait made sure he was the picture of perfection in everything he endeavored to do, and that included education.

The tutor finally finished reading, and set about questioning Kalype, as if hoping to catch her in a state of unpreparedness. Which was laughable, to be frank. Kalype had many flaws, unlike her brother, but it was neigh impossible to catch her unprepared. Which Kalype proved, giving a simple, and eloquent answer after a moment of feigned contemplation. The tutor seemed to huff at Kalype's response, but accepted it and moved on.

After a few rounds of questions, some answered far too enthusiastically, the lesson finally seemed like it was winding down. The tutor was no longer asking questions, but pacing back and forth, talking about Marn. Parfait didn't care much about the Four, but of them all, Marn was his favorite. He saw a lot of her in his own mother, strong and supportive. The lesson ended quickly after that, and Parfait was gone before the tutor had even finished dismissing them, long legs carrying him out of the room at a leisurely pace, but as quick as if he had sprinted.

                                                      User Image

Parfait stood in front of the mirror, scrutinizing his costume with an obsessive eye. The sleeves were too full, and the shade of red was not particularly complementary to his pale skin, but that was forgivable. What was unforgivable was the overstuffed cravat, which threw off the entire silhouette of the ensemble. Unacceptable. He reached out and grabbed his man servant before the man could sneak away. He didn't bother to make eye contact.

“You! Care to explain what this monstrosity is, and where the costume I chose months ago might be? I refuse to be seen like this, so get me what I want, or find me something better!” The manservant stood, flustered, and appeared to be sweating.

“B-But, your Highness, this is what you requested! I don't know what you expect me to-” The manservant trailed off as Parfait slowly turned to face him, eyebrows raised, eyes cold.

“What I expect is for you to do your job. I assume you want to keep it, and in the spirit of festivity, why don't we forget that you dared to talk back, and defy your Prince, and you do as I requested?” Parfait turned back to the mirror, smirking at his reflection as the manservant disappeared from the room, in search of anything that might appease the Prince. Stripping off the flawed costume, Parfait made a note to request a new manservant the next day.

A few minutes later, a young boy came knocking, probably bribed by the soon to be fired manservant to deliver what for his sake, better be the correct costume. Parfait took the neatly folded pile of clothing from the starstruck boy, and closed the door in his face without so much as a cursory 'thank you'.

                                                      User Image

Parfait stood near one of the less obtrusive food stalls, surveying the festival goers with his usual look of faint disdain. It seemed as if everyone in attendance had spent years worth of wages on their costumes, but in a way that made everyone look less impressive, and more gaudy. As if to prove his point, a little redheaded girl ran past, wearing a gown that might have been suitable, were she a few years older, and a distracting feathered hat. Her friend followed close behind, dressed in a more age appropriate gown, and a finely crafted mask, but both were askew, and faintly dusty, giving her the appearance of a farm girl playing dress up.And really, that's all the festival was. Farm girls and stables boys playing at nobility for a night.

Pippa Florence stood in line down in the kitchens, waiting impatiently for the tray of breakfast she was supposed to have had up to Princess Charlotte ten minutes ago. For once, the delay was only kind of Pippa's fault; she'd noticed that a pot was boiling over, and, quite helpfully, mind you, she took the pot off the fire. See, helpful! Except that the pot wasn't boiling over, so much as... simmering. And when she took it off the fire, she effectively halted the cooking of the porridge, and now the cook was hectically trying to turn the congealed paste into something palatable.

“What are you lot dawdling about for? There's nothing you could possibly doing while I try to salvage this porridge?”
The cook pushed through the crowd of servants, directing kitchen maids with all the skill of an army general. In her haste to get out of the cook's way, Pippa knocked over a pile of pans, and the sound of battered copper hitting rough stone rang through the kitchen, the entire room going silent as everyone turned to stare at Pippa. “You. Why is it always you, girl?” The cook shook her head, too used to Pippa's pippaness to be anything other then resigned. The others, now that it was clear Pippa wasn't about to be eviscerated, went back to work, a steady stream of chatter once more filling the silence. “Well, what are you just standing there for? Pick those up, and set them over there. You can wash them after you finish your morning chores.” Pippa nodded earnestly, and scrambled to gather all the pans.

“Right away, Madam! It won't happen again, I swear it!” Pippa said, setting the pans on the counter.

“I won't hold my breath, girl, now take this up to her Highness, and be quick about it!” The cook handed Pippa a covered try, and she nodded, bending her knees in a quick curtsy before hurrying away.

Pippa all but ran down the servants' hall towards the stairs. She stood at the foot of the steps, staring up morosely at the seven flights of stairs she had to climb in order to reach Princess Charlotte's rooms. Other servants flew by her with their trays, not sparing her so much as a glance.

“Oh, excuse me, Pippa, didn't see you there! Oh no, that's okay, I'm fine. How's your morning been, Pippa? Your hair looks lovely today Pippa! Did you see...” Pippa grumbled to herself as she carefully climbed the stone steps, making sure to hold the tray steady.

Pippa finally reached Charlotte's room, and set the tray down on the small table by the door. She knocked perfunctorily, not bothering to wait for a response before opening it, and carrying in the tray.

“Morning, Miss Charlotte! Sorry about the delay, there was a wee issue down in the kitchens, but it's all fixed now!” Pippa set the tray on the bedside table, smiling brightly. Seeing Princess Charlotte always made Pippa feel like she was watching a fairytale character come to life. She was everything a princess was meant to be. “I think it's porridge with fruit today, Miss, but if that's not to your liking I can always get you something else. Cook always assumes the girls want porridge, and the boys want ham and eggs. Maybe you want ham and eggs, who's she to decide!” Pippa rambled on as she went about preparing Charlotte's room. She opened the curtains, and windows, and put out the last embers from last night's fire.

Done preparing the room, Pippa gathered the laundry into a basket to take down to the laundry maids. Even 'dirty', the clothes were of much better quality then Pippa's, which was saying something, as this was not a castle that dressed its working staff in rags; even the lowest of maids was at least as well dressed as most of the townspeople. Pippa lifted the basket into her arms.

“Well that's me done for now, Miss! Gotta go drop these off, then when that's done I'll get started on the mending! Have a good morning, if I don't see you again before lunch!” Pippa curtsied, nearly fell, and steadied herself, before leaving the room in the same tornado manner she entered it. One of the other ladies' handmaidens was passing in the hall, and scoffed at Pippa's unladylike exit. Pippa stuck out her tongue at the woman's back, before heading downstairs.

Pippa dropped off the clothes with the laundry girls, and then headed for the kitchen, where she made quick, if mildly sloppy, work of the pans from breakfast. After that, she headed back to the laundry room, and began mending the hem of the dress Charlotte wanted to wear to the festival. Pippa's own costume had been ready for days, hung up as neatly as she could manage in her room, along with her mask and possibly her favorite part, a huge, feathery pirate style hat. At age fourteen, Pippa figured it was time to leave the butterfly masks and pastel colored gowns behind; she was practically an adult, after all!

Lady Evelyn deMerr sat at the breakfast table, head propped up with one hand while the other lazily stirred a bowl of by now cold porridge. She'd been up half the night digging through her closet, desperate for a costume she hadn't already worn to death. Her particular style of dress was not a popular one in Glicia, as she favored bared shoulders and straighter skirts, rather then the more typical tight bodice and flared skirts of the other noble women and girls. She'd finally settled on a gown, an older one that she'd hardly worn, and a white mask, carved out of some kind of wood, then bleached. The mask was beautiful, but very fragile, and would likely end up broken, or at least cracked, by the end of the night. Such was the life of Evie's finer belongings.

Evie was alone at the table; her father had been long gone before she even woke up, running the farm. They only had a few servants to run the house, so other then the standoffish serving girl, who seemed determined to ignore Evie's every attempt at conversation, the only one present at that time of day was the cook, who was extremely old fashioned, and considered it blasphemy that not only did a serving girl serve meals in the dining room, but there was no man to lead her. Therefore, the cook was rarely, if ever, seen outside of the kitchen. It wasn't often that one could find themselves looked down upon by a servant, but something about Evie seemed to rub serving staff the wrong way; probably because she came from a background nearly identical to theirs, only her life had had a much different ending.

Her father's booming tobacco business was only the result of sheer dumb luck, and desperation. He had been trying to find cheaper weeds that he could smoke, and after choking down the smoke of dried dandelion stems, powdered rosemary leaves, and once, in a fit of sheer idiocy, the smoke of crushed rose stems, he had finally just begun drying random garden variety weeds and stuffing them into his pipe. The first time he'd tried Brightleaf (so named for it's bright, poisonous green leaves, even after drying), Evie was certain he'd hurt himself, the shout he gave was so loud. She'd come running, and found him slumped back in his chair, staring at the pipe in his hand as if it had begun dancing the waltz. She could remember his next words with the same surety she could remember the color of her hair.

"Evelyn, this is some damn fine tobacco." Hey, she said she could remember them, not that they were worthy of remembering.

Or, perhaps the servants were simply tired of constantly cleaning up after her, admittedly excessive, messes. Evie wasn't the most graceful of Ladies on her best behavior, let alone when she was at home, and not actively seeking to impress anyone! More times then she could count had she awkwardly stood to the side, watching as the serving girl swept up a shattered vase.

Evie, finished with her breakfast, left the house as quickly as possible, not wanting to run into the serving staff cleaning her pigsty of a bedroom. When she'd left it that morning, she was pretty sure there had been a corset dangling precariously from the chandelier, and the bed was indecernable under the mound of gowns and coats and shoes that covered it.

Once outside, and safe from the staff's judging eyes, she heaved a sigh of relief. Evie had few plans for the day beyond wandering about the pavilion, watching the preparations for the festival, so she meandered over to the pavilion leisurely.

                            User Image

The sun was finally setting, and the festival was in full swing, cast in a pleasing golden light. The air was a cacophony of different smells, from roasted meats to candied nuts, the floral perfumes of the women and men clashing in a not exactly pleasing way. Children ran around under foot, laughing and shouting, dirtying their once pristine costumes, while frazzled mothers occasionally managed to pull a child away, thumbing away dirt smudges from soft cheeks rosy with exhilaration.

Evie walked leisurely along, picking at a soft roll and trying to look like she was heading somewhere with a purpose. She hadn't run across anyone she knew yet, and she could practically feel the eyes on her back, judging her; her costume, her hair, her lack of company. Everyone judging, and everyone finding her wanting. It wasn't easy, coming into nobility the way she had, and though no one would dare go so far as to say she wasn't cut out for nobilty, that didn't make it any less trur. It was something her and her friends had dreamed about as children, hiding from chores and dreading bland meals. They had longed for free time, hot meals, fancy clothes. But Evie found that she would gladly trade all her luxuries for a good conversation. Some good old fashioned gossip, whispers and scandals, that would do Evie a world of good.

"Oomph!" Evie was jolted out of her thoughts as someone small (and quite bony, if the instant bruise forming on Evie's back was any indication) slammed into her, thrusting her into a nearby stall, and knocking half of the poor salesman's wares onto the ground. Evie and the bony girl scrambled to right the table, and put back the items (creepy wooden dolls, it seemed) while the stall owner berated them in a progressivly high pitched, nasally voice, demanding they apologize and pay for the damage. Evie stood tall, frowning at the man. At her side, the girl's face was quickly darkening from freckled and pale to freckled and bright red. Evie had planned on just pretending she hadn't heard the man (sure, they knocked over some of his dolls, but they hadn't been damaged, and they put them back!), but that option was ripped away from her as the girl- whose face now perfectly matched the shade if her hair- began talking back to the man, hands on her hips and a frown on her face.

"We're not paying for anything, you old bat! Your creepy dolls are fine, not a scratch on one of their poorly painted faces! You're lucky you even got an apology, greedy goat." The girl nodded once, sharply, as if pleased wth her words, before grabbing Evie's arm and pulling her away.

"Come, dear cousin, let's go browse the good stalls for souvenirs." Baffled, Evie followed the girl, and they were swallowed up by the crowds, the stall owner shouting after them faintly fading away.
                            .

Annie rolled leisurely out of bed, not sparing the bare body of last night's partner a second glace. Some nurse, or doctor, or something. Nicely proportioned, for a mother of two, Annie thought. Grabbing her top, and shrugging it on as she walked out of the on call room. She headed straight for the cafeteria, needing at least three cups of coffee before she could properly function. It was so tedious, banging the staff, but Annie liked the challenge. Didn't care so much for the pitying, well meaning 'you don't owe me anything for helping you, Annie' that they all tried to feed her, though, like saying that somehow lessened the fact that they had zero intentions of not ******** her. But whatever, they were most of them good lays, so she let them have that meager comfort.

Annie bypassed the line quickly, not bothering to reign in her power. There were angry groans from the unaffected residents, but Annie just smiled faux shyly at the dazed server, and accepted her usual bowl of fruit. She knew she'd probably be told off for 'abusing her powers', but she didn't care. The worst they'd do is give her an extra group session or something. Annie scanned the tables in the cafeteria, and most were occupied by the sad, creepy lover residents, one or two to a table. So she headed for the most full table, despite hardly feeling any attraction from any of them, which was a bummer, cause it was kind of a table of babes.

"Sup gays, almost gays?" Annie sat across from Smiley Cardigan Boy and next to Grumpy Sad Kitten. Having only been a resident for two months, Annie wasn't sure of anyone's names yet, though she could recognize them by a few basic traits, hence the dumb nicknames. She poured herself a glass of juice, after prying the handle from the nearly still sleeping man's death grip.

"How'd everyone sleep? That bed in the on call room is surprisingly comfortable, even with two people! I slept like a cat, that's for sure. I'm almost not totally dreading group today. Must be a magic bed..." Annie inspected her nails as she ate, frowning at the chipped polish. Honestly, between the lack of proper hygienic products and decent books, Annie was ready to just pack it all in and go home. She missed L desperately, though she called him every chance she could. (Another rule that she didn't care to obey) But she needed to learn to control her powers, to make them stronger. If she could control more than just arousal and attraction, if she could figure out how to access people's fear, then she could be a real asset to L, and then she'd not just have his love, she'd have his respect.

Addison Graye stood in line with the residents, waiting eagerly for breakfast. He could have just had breakfast sent up to his office like most of the older staff chose to do, but he personally preferred eating with them. Not only were the residents better company then his secondhand psychology books, but he liked watching his patients outside of therapy lessons. They were loose and at ease in a way they never achieved during group or one on one sessions, despite Addie's many attempts to make them all feel welcome. Addie took any chance he could to understand his patients better; they didn't open up to him as easily as they would if he weren't younger than most of them, he knew. They seemed to equate youth with inexperience, never mind the fact that he'd literally been right where they all currently were, not something every therapist here could say, he liked to point out. To himself.

Group would be starting in an hour or so, so Addie had plenty of time to eat and get set up. It was his turn in line, and he took his tray with a smile, thanking the bleary eyed server. After piling on plenty of fruit salad and yogurt, he turned and faced the majority of the cafeteria. He surveyed the room, looking for a nice, populated place to sit.

Ah, perfect! Addie headed over the the table with the most people, recognizing each face. He laughed a little when he saw how they were all strategically staggered so no one was actually sitting next to another person, and plopped his tray down right next to the unlucky man who sat closest to where Addie stood, sitting down with a cheery

"Morning, all!" Addie recognized his victim of the day from group sessions, Jesse Harrison. Addie hadn't had him for a one on one session yet, but it was bound to happen soon. Due to the voluntary nature of URS, therapists kind of went in rounds, working with every resident, rather than having a resident come to rely on one volunteer, then have that resident be screwed if that volunteer decided to stop coming in. Addie also recognized Dr. Kozlov, though only in passing. Truth be told, Kozlov's power had always seemed kind of suckish to Addie, and, being renowned throughout the center for a spectacular lack of tact, given his career, Addie just kind of... avoided him. To avoid definite embarrassment, and possible bodily harm. But really, what was the point of being able to heal, if it only hurt you? What would happen if he tried to heal himself? Would he look fine but still hurt? Questions that Addie refused to verbalize.

"Soooo... How's everyone's day going so far?" Addie rested his head on his hand, popping grapes into his mouth absentmindedly. Addie actually wasn't much excited for today. Because he still lived at the center, even though he was a staff member, Addie was required to go through the same check up that the residents had to suffer through. Addie hated going to see doctors. He planned on hiding away in his office and pretending to have forgotten the day.

          "Stop, thief!"

Beat up sneakers pounded against the hot pavement, followed by the clicking of expensive loafers. Beau Benson laughed as he took a sharp left turn down an alley, jumping over trash cans and bums with ease. He had expected to have to do more to entice the suit into giving chase; they typically just shouted abuse at him and swore to call the police. They never did though; their business meetings were far more valuable to them then the two hundred bucks they had in their fancy monogrammed bill folds. The man chasing him was slowing quickly though, so Beau pulled himself up on to a broken fire escape, twining his body up and around the bars. He stood at the top of the fire escape and watched with feigned fear as the man halfheartedly jumped for the broken ladder and missed. Beau snorted, causing the man to growl in frustration and renew his efforts to grab the ladder. Beau narrowed his eyes and stared at the man, amplifying his sense of touch. He shuddered as the full body pins and needles became prevalent. He became acutely aware of the weave of his shirt, the sweat dotting his brow, both from exertion and the summer heat. His eyesight dimmed sharply, and his hearing became muffled, as if he were underwater. He could see the effects enhanced touch had on the man, not nearly as used to the sensation as Beau. He looked up at where he thought Beau was in confusion and mild horror.

"Y-you! What did you do to me!? Make it s-stop!" The man held his arms away from his body, trying to minimize contact with his suit.

"Sure thing, babe! You do me a favor, and I'll put you right, quick as a flash." The man frantically nodded, his face doing strange things as he dealt with feeling every single tastebud in his mouth rub against the others. The next second, he had all of his senses back, and the sudden rush of sensation had him bent over, gasping for breath. Beau slid down the fire escape, grimacing a little at the feel of rough, dirty metal slipping through his hands. He landed with a silent thump in front of the man, and pushed him up against the wall, a casual smile on his face, as if they were old friends messing about.

"See, I know things. I'm paid to know things. Things about you, specifically." The man's face had paled drastically, and Beau nodded sagely. "Yeah, you know why I'm here. So I don't need to tell you what happens if he doesn't gets what's owed him, ya get me?" The man stammered, trying to talk his way out of his predicament.

"Yeah, no, that's not good enough sweetheart. You've got three days, or I'm coming back. And I won't be leaving you nearly as unscathed as I am today. You've got a pretty face; don't make me have to break it." Beau patted the man on the face, before releasing him. The man scampered away without looking back. Beau shoved his hands into his pockets and strolled out of the alley and into the flow of people on the street with ease.

Beau sat perched in a tree near the lake, sorting through the wallets he'd nabbed on the way. So far, he'd made $317 dollars, fifty of that in giftcards, four sticks of gum, ten condoms, and one well worn fortune cookie fortune that read 'There is more obligation that those who have should give to those who have nothing.' Beau scoffed, but pocketed it nonetheless. Beau tossed the rest of the wallets and their contents into the trashcan below him, except for the ids. Those he'd toss in a mailbox on his way home. He wasn't such an awful person that he'd subject his victims to hours waiting at the dmv for a replacement id. Done admiring his trophies, Beau climbed to a higher position in the tree, in search of the perfect perch. He chose one that conveniently was pointed towards a particularly interesting group, and lounged on his stomach, one hand supporting his head, the other dangling just above the heads of some teenagers.

He'd certainly chosen an interesting group to watch. A girl with lavender hair was perched on the back of a tall, nervous type of man. The girl might have been Eris, but he hadn't seen her in a few weeks, and she was liable to have changed her hair color three times in that time. Beau let out an involuntary bark of laughter when the nervous twitchy looking man clocked a guy right in the face. Maybe not so nervous after all...

Beau watched the interaction with interest, wondering absently what the guy had done to piss off Twitchy. When Twitchy and Possibly-Eris headed off towards the lake, Beau hopped down from his perch and followed at a distance. He really wanted to know what these two were up to.

Beau followed the two at a leisurely pace, not watching them, but staring at his phone. All day he'd been trading asks with another blog, specifically one of the other blog's mods, Crux. At first, the asks had been vague and creepy; a chess game, then Crux saying Beau was more like a dog then a cat (and what did that even mean? Beau still wasn't sure if it was meant to be a compliment or not). Then Beau accidentally mentioned that he was homeless, and Crux (still unnamed at this point, by the way) offered to give him a place to stay. Beau honestly still wasn't sure if he was being played or not, but he figured he'd just go along with it, and if it turned out to be some elaborate setup to kill him or eat him, or just a dickish prank, he'd bust some heads and hightail it outta there.

He hoped it was legit though. And not just because of the apartment. s**t was getting pretty rough nowadays, people dying and disappearing left and right. Beau had no illusions about what he did to survive, though, and he couldn't honestly say that he wouldn't consider a violent job for the right motivation. So even if he himself wasn't one of them, it was comforting to know there were honestly good people still around. The fact that one of those good people had just bought him a stay at a hotel, and booked him a trip to a ******** cat cafe, well that was just nice. It was just Beau's luck that one of maybe three people who treated him decently was a stranger on the internet, probably half a world away. In a perfect world, one where Beau was a normal 24 year old, with a life, a job and a home, he and Crux would become friends, evolving from tumblr to trading phone numbers, to trading addresses, only to discover that, silly them, they'd lived right next to each other for years. They'd laugh about it, and have lunch at the cat cafe, and maybe if Crux was a man, they'd go on a date.
Beau halted that train of thought before it got too '12 year old girl writing in her diary about Zac Efron' for him. Besides, even if he wasn't a homeless thief, the odds of that actually happening were zero to negative seventeen. He pocketed his phone and shoved his hands into his jeans pockets.

They were getting closer to the lake now, Twitchy and the girl he was sure was Eris. Eris was probably the only person Beau had to call a friend, besides his tumblr sugarperson, so Beau walked a little faster, until he'd caught up with the pair. He'd opened his mouth, and was just about to greet the woman, when he glanced down and noticed the worrying state of her leg.

“Jesus, Eris, what the ******** happened to your ******** leg?? You need to get that thing checked out!” Beau frowned, studying her leg some more. “Or possibly ******** amputated...” He was so focused on the state of Eris' poor leg, he almost didn't catch the tail end of her conversation with Twitchy.

“Raven, help whoever it is. Someone has to. Something's going on in the water and it's not good.”

Well. That was comforting. Beau took a couple steps back, not wanting to get tangled up in whatever was supposed to be going down. In the back of his mind he remembered Crux's last message, telling Beau to be safe at the park. There were other people around, and they seemed to be doing the same thing that Eris and her redheaded transporter were doing. Beau had no interest in diving into the lake, especially on the whim of Eris, who he liked well enough, but was not exactly what one could call a reliable source of information. If nothing else, her deliverance of information left something to be desired. Plus, there was already a big viking looking guy in the water. Beau almost turned around and walked away, but Eris looked pretty hecka hurt, and he could see that whatever adrenaline she had was fading, and soon she'd really be feeling that leg. Beau sighed a little at himself. You're a hardened criminal Beau Benson, you're not supposed to be helping people in the park. You could be back in your tree, throwing pine cones at old people, but noooo.... Idiot.

“Hey, um, if Twitchy's going for a swim, you probably wanna get off his back. If you want I can help you down, maybe call someone for that leg? I really think you might need to amputate. You could totally rock a prosthetic leg though, seriously. No worries.”

Beau took the phone Twitchy handed him, bemused. Twitchy was trying some kind of earnest, doe eyed thing, so Beau sighed as if largely put upon, and held the phone up to his ear, waving the man and his stupid face away.

“Yeah, yeah, I got it, go. Frickin' heroes, roping innocent children into their s**t. Should never have left my ******** tree.” Beau headed closer to the lake to get a better view, the operator on the phone monotone and tinny in his ear.

”Sir, can you explain to me what is going on? Who exactly needs assistance?” the voice asked.

“Well, there's like four people in the lake, I think one's even naked, which is not something I'm complaining about, can I just say? Very nice. Um... Whoa, what the ********. Yeah, okay, so the guys in the lake just pulled some guy out of a honest to god coffin.” Beau let out a disbelieving laugh, and ran a hand over his hair.

”Does the man appear to be breathing?” Seriously, what was wrong with the NYPD that naked men pulling coffins out of the lake didn't even warrant a change in tone of voice?

“Yeah, he's fine I think. Walking, praising god, all that jazz.” Beau jogged a little closer, nearly getting bowled over by the big viking guy. Beau placed a hand over the phone's speaker, before addressing the sodden group of men. “Hey, I'm on the phone with 911. Is everyone okay, any mortal wounds?”
Before Beau could get a response, there was a loud commotion over by the bridge. He turned sharply just as a girl's voice cried out.

Jesus Christ, I am never getting involved with s**t like this ever again. Beau handed the phone off to the guy who actually looked prepared to do some swimming before he could take off like the other two had.

“You're a hero guy, right? All saving people, and ridiculous costumes? Look, I'm not going over there to find out what the hell's going on, and coffin guy doesn't look to stable on his feet anyways, so can you just repeat what I say to the robot on the phone? I'd do it, but I'm not gonna be able to hear anything in a second. Awesome, thanks.” Beau inhaled deeply, flexed his hands, and let the ever unpleasant pins and needles sensation wash over him, until his vision improved to the point where he could see everything happening by the bridge with perfect clarity. A girl, a guy, and the weird motorcycle hero he'd seen around were all facing each other, though the guy was bent in half, arm wrapped around his stomach. The viking guy was running towards them, face distorted with fury.

“I think someone's been stabbed, over by the bridge.” Beau relayed, unable to hear his own words. The guy who appeared to be stabbed then lunged forward, most certainly stabbing the girl before him in the stomach. She jerked a little, probably crying out.

“Jesus. Nope, make that two stabbed people. What is it with people tod-” he cut off mid word as the stabbed girl flung her arm out, only instead of punching him like Beau had figured she was going for...

“********! What the ******** ********!?” Beau felt bile rise up in his throat, closing his eyes and shaking his head. When he opened them again all of his senses were back. Slightly out of breath, Beau gasped out

“She ******** beheaded the guy!” Absently, Beau wondered if maybe that would be enough to interest the bored phone operator. “Yeah, nope. I am done with my good deeds of the day. This is me, noping away. You take care, glad you're not dead, preacher guy. If you see him, that phone belongs to the twitchy redhead guy. I'm outie.” Beau threw his arms into the air before striding away, muttering under his breath. Crazy ******** whack jobs, stabbing people, burying people alive in the lake, beheading people...

A few minutes later found Beau pacing back and forth under a tree, anxiously chewing his thumbnail. He wasn't going to plop himself in the middle of their s**t, but he didn't want to leave without knowing for sure the ambulance had come. Which it still hadn't. Which was kind of stressing Beau out. Hence, the pacing. He also stuck around to satisfy his own morbid curiosity, he had to admit.

Beau pulled out his phone and went to Tumblr in a halfhearted attempt to seem nonchalant. He wasn't really paying attention, and when he focused on his phone, saw that he'd opened a new ask to itswhollyrelevant. He hesitated before closing the message. He didn't want to involve his new friend in this weird s**t. Though, he had to wonder, if they weren't already involved, as he remembered the message they'd sent him last. “just be safe at the park tonight and we can call it all even.” Clearly, they'd known something was going to happen. Or they were just responding to Beau's admittedly blatant flirting. Or they were a precog. There were lots of reasons for them to have warned Beau, so he decided not to worry about it for now.

Beau paused in his pacing, perking up as he heard faint sirens in the distance. Knowing the police would probably be accompanying the ambulance(s), Beau jumped up and swung himself in the tree, watching the proceedings from the safety of his concealed perch.
