Normally Spencer wasn’t so careless and thoughtless. If the entirety of the day had been any way of the sense of “normal,” he would not have done half the things he did. Specifically not expect such great deal of help from a woman he just met. Whom, he had to admit, happened to be pretty cute too.
"I didn't mean to scare the both of ya.. I have no idea what's going on. I was fixing to head to my first class and ran into this girl in the hall. Her foot was -- I mean..just..” She explained after the sudden startle. Spencer made a small nervous chuckle that sounded more like he was clearing his throat then an actual laugh and continued to watch the woman describe girl she had met, "..like that, but worse. I tried talking to her and she didn't say anything. Oh! She also had a gaping wound on her neck. Looked like someone got a good bite outta her."
Spencer’s brows rose in confusion and concern as he took in the girl's posture about the way the woman stood when she met them. “Oh? That’s… very odd.” Spencer mumbled, trying to make it make sense in his mind.
After Kale excused himself, the woman introduced herself as Grace and Spencer went on to explain his own issue as an answer to Kale’s question, remembering his friend had stabbed himself. When he finished, he offered his own gratitude and debt, not realizing he hadn’t even so much as introduced himself.
"Well, I 'spose it wouldn't hurt to go an check on him. But, I'm thinking that if he didn't die while you were there with him--” Grace replied and Spencer couldn’t help a slight visible cringe and his stomach making a small upsetting grumbling sound at the idea of one of his favorite teammates dying by Spencer’s own careless and stubborn fighting. “--that he ain't gonna last much longer with an injury like that. Especially with the blood loss alone.."
Dread suddenly overflowed the brunette as he already began to hate himself that he caused one of his best friends to die. It wasn't like he meant to... What would happen to him? Was this considered murder? Would he be put in prison--
“Might also be a smart idea to get outta these crammed hallways too, just in case our little…” Grace spoke back up, redirecting his thoughts back to her and the situation at hand. "...uh, those sick folk come after us."
Spencer nodded, “Yeah, for sure,” he agreed. If Aaron was okay, maybe the three of them could wait it out til they had help? “This way,” Spencer said almost blankly but demanding as he began to lead the way in a fast pace. Rethinking it through, he knew he had to come back. Rather or not Kale actually favorited him, he was still his little brother and it was Spencer’s duty to protect him... and besides sitting around was not the way he was taught growing up when he was in a dangerous situation. He was told to take control of it; if no one is leading, be a leader. If there is a leader, assist.
A silent moment passed before it finally clicked to him that he hadn’t yet introduced himself. “Spencer, by the way… my name’s Spencer,” he paused for a moment before muttering under his breath, “Sorry.” He was far too caught up with the idea of his dead friend then he was about the people he was with.
Another moment then Grace spoke back up, "I'm not tryin' to say that this is what this is, but I seen movies on stuff like this,” she explained. Spencer side-glanced at her confused. Movies? This? He thought before being suddenly stopped by a hand to his chest and a thing falling in front of him. Immediately, his hands went up in balled fists in defense, unaware of the blurry thing that hit the ground until the impact. A body? He looked up to where it could have fell from. A balcony. No other being was there… why would someone just attempted suicide right in front of them? Spencer redirected his attention to the blonde beside him who spoke up again, "If that fall didn't do her in, I don't think me havin' a pencil will help me much."
He looked back to the woman who made the splat onto the hard floor, now recognizing them as a counselor to the facility. There’s no way the counselor would have purposely chose to off themselves… and she unmistakably looked like one of… them. Could they still be alive after that? Could they… would they be like Aaron and try to get up and snap at them? Spencer put his arms down and took a step back, not wanting to find out. “Yea, no, I can’t imagine that would do much good.” He agreed as he looked back at her.
"I'm in the nursing program, but I have never learned about anything like this. I mean, it's impossible. It's like they can't even -- they aren't.."
“...Aware of anything?” Spencer questioned, trying to complete Grace’s last thought. He thought the same, not just any phrase or description really covered it. Unaware and snapping was definitely some things he would use describe them as but that didn’t seem all that helpful. “We got to keep going… if Aaron is still alive, we need to help him.” Spencer couldn’t make himself admit that Aaron was one of them, even if he did have every characteristic the others had. His stomach twisted at the site of the woman. She looked liked them… and dead... deader than them… “It’s… convenient… that you’re in the nursing program.” He assured with a surprised and low tone as he made his way around the woman and continued down the hall to his possibly dying friend. "I had no idea when I asked you..."
Was it a coincidence that he had called upon her instead of Kale? It was bound to be the first person he saw… which happened to be Kale. Maybe this was destiny? Kale happened to walk away after Spencer remembered and he couldn’t wait. Besides, he wasn’t sure if Kale could have been much help anyways… he couldn’t remember what the man came here to study for anyhow.
Spencer kept leading the way in a quick pace in the creepily quiet building, focused on the mission at hand before once more being diverted back to Grace with what almost felt like small talk, “It's more quiet in here than a whore in a church.” She said and he couldn’t help the small chuckle that escaped his lips. That was disturbingly accurate. She spoke up again, "I don't believe you told me what it is you do? I know you said teammate, so you play a sport. You got access to the supply room? I'm thinking I'll need more than a pencil to keep myself safe."
“Oh... crap,” Spencer cued in as he came to a quick stop right before a corner, noticing a heavy blood trail leave the unmistakable lounge that Aaron was previously in, Spencer’s duffle bag still marking it from the outside. His eyes widen, “he’s… still… moving…” he muttered slowly, his heart racing. How was he still moving? “Aaron?!” Spencer shouted, the voice echoing down the eerily empty corridor as he waited a few seconds for a reply before quickly shouting his name again, slightly louder. “Aaron?!”
With no reply, Spencer examined the blood trail down the hall, “if he moved he might still be…” he paused, not believing the words he was about to say. He was one of them… he told himself. His heart sunk at the idea. “We have to find him!” He said as quickly as he turned to see Grace’s face. “I won’t let him die…” he muttered as he looked at the ground for a split second before taking off in a dash, following the blood trail.
Dashing down the hall and quickly cutting a corner and coming to a sudden stop, he found a closed door. Blood covered it like leopard print on the outside with a blob of it messied at his height. Visions of the man, squirting blood all over the door flooded his head. He took a heavy breath as his stomach churned. “Aaron?” Spencer questioned nervously as he slowly approached the door, his hand hesitating to open as he awaited an answer. Without a reply, Spencer opened it anyways. Aaron had to be inside. “Aaron, why did you walk away?” He questioned as he slowly creeped the door open, “I was coming back. I found help, she’s a nurse--” he began explaining before immediately pausing, his heart sinking to his stomach, “I--Aaron…?” His eyes widened more as he saw his friend on his knees over another body, tearing off skin with his teeth, blood soaking them both and a wooden stake still in his eye forcing droplets of blood onto the open stomach of the dead beneath him. The man slowly turned his head to look at Spencer. Spencer gulped, the sight was disgusting and made a knot in his stomach but he couldn’t make himself peel away.
