A Guide to Safe Betting

Hello everyone! The lotto/games section is a fun but dangerous place. There are normal people who just want to bet fair and square, but that is sometimes difficult when there are scammers running amok. I understand that many betters bet in user-made threads rather in casinos, so this guide is for those who want ultimate safety for themselves.

In this thread, you will learn:
-how to bet
-basic betting terms
-about middlemen
-how to keep yourself safe while betting
-how to spot a scammer
-the types of scammers

Included in this guide is a list of known/possible scammers. If you want to add someone to the list, PM milkutan:
Username: (if you have multiple accounts, state the username that got scammed; note: ONLY FILL OUT THIS FORM IF YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED, NOT YOUR FRIEND)
Scammer: (username of scammer)
Type of Scammer: (refer to the list; a scammer may be more than one type of scammer)
How: (list exactly what happened)
Screenshots:

Other Notes:

Note: Only fill out this form if you are the one that got scammed. Do not fill it in for someone else. If you witnessed someone else get scammed, tell them to fill this out themselves.
The more screenshots and details, the better.
Not all scammers will be put on the list if there isn't enough evidence.

How to Bet

This is for people who are new to betting.

The best way to bet is to use RGN (randomly generated number). Rolling dice is a bit harder. To randomly generate a number, for example 1-100, make a new post. On the right, click on "Post Action" and select "Random Number". In the first box put 1 and in the next put 100. Submit your post. Congratulations! You just generated a number.

When betting, terms are agreed between two people. There are three variables in terms: the amount of gold being betted, the numbers to be generated, and what decides the winner.

Note: Sometimes items are used to bet. If someone is betting their item, compare the gold they ask for if you lose to the gold worth of the item in the marketplace. Check the lowest market price AND the average buy price.

An example is 10k, 1-100 HNW (scroll down for term meanings). That means both people generate 1-100. The person with the highest generated number wins, and the other person gives them 10k.

If you make your own thread, you can either state your terms or have other users state their terms. Generally, you put how much you're willing to bet in the thread title.

Terms and Meanings

HNW - Highest Number Wins (self explanatory)

LNW - Lowest Number Wins (self explanatory)

RTC - Roll to Confirm (If someone posts this, you quote them and roll if you accept their terms. If you're betting with someone, state your terms and tell them to RTC.)

DoN - Double or Nothing (If someone lost a bet, they might ask DoN, which means both people bet the same amount again, and if the loser wins, they pay nothing. If they lose again, they pay for the first game and second game. You generally want to ask about using same or different terms before doing DoN.)

Closest to # Wins - A number replaces "#". Both people generate and whichever person gets a number closest to "#" wins.

## rolls - Another way of saying "##" tries. This is usually accompanied by "Closest to "#" Wins", which means each person gets to roll "##" times and any of the rolls that are the closest to "#" wins.

First one to "###" wins - This is basically like a countdown. Normal terms are usually chosen first (let's say 1-100). Each person rolls those terms. After the first roll; let's say person 1 rolled "A", they wait for the other person to roll as well; let's say person 2 rolled "X". Then person 1 rolls 1-"A" and gets "B". Person 2 rolls 1-"X" and gets "Y". Person 1 rolls 1-"B", person 2 rolls 1-"Y", and so on. Basically you roll from the starting number to the number you last generated. The game ends when someone gets to "###" (yay!) or a number lower than "###" (confirm with the other person if they agree to this just to make sure).

General Betting Etiquette

-Deleting posts is a big fat no-no in the lotto/games forum. There should be no real reason for deleting a post; the edit button is there for a reason. Tell anybody that if you catch them deleting a post and giving you an excuse. For extra-safety, state this when you make a betting thread.

-It's considered rude if you win and say "Send trade" right away. Be more modest about your win, and wait just in case they want to do DoN.

-If you suspect a scammer, try to decline as politely as possible and don't give a reason unless asked. Remember, it's only a suspicion!

-If you lose, send the trade as soon as possible. Don't cling onto your gold and wait for the other person to ask for it.

-Making excuses or delaying a bet because you know you will lose is very low and disrespectful. Embrace your loss (you still have a chance to win!) and suck it up. No one wants to bet with someone who backs out all the time.

-Don't accuse someone for scamming. They might have real reasons for delay or something. If it's a suspicion, don't go out and tell everyone about them. If they really did scam, just report them and let Gaia deal with it. Besides, making name drop threads accusing scammers in the lotto/games forum isn't allowed anyways. (Read the rules!)

-Don't forget to tip your middleman!

Middlemen

You can bet in three kinds of threads: casinos, other users' threads, or make your own thread.

Casinos are generally safer, especially since they have middlemen. A middleman is a person who makes sure a bet is fair. How most middlemen work: the bet does not start until both sides give their betting amounts to the middleman and the middleman tells them they can start. After the rolling, the winner is given the full prize by the middleman.

Middlemen from casinos ensure a safe and fair bet. It is suggested that you make your large bets in casinos and ask for a middleman. If a middleman comes into your own thread (or another user's), MAKE ABSOLUTE SURE that you are able to verify that they are a trusted middleman from an official casino. Check the casino itself!

Self-Safety Procedures

If you don't want a middleman, there are ways to ensure safety for yourself.

Check your betting partner (or soon-to-be betting partner) and their latest posts (click on the arrow next to the word "Online/Offline" underneath their avatar and click on "View Posts". If there seems to be some fishy business going on, politely decline their request for a bet.

Screenshot all agreed terms before starting the rolling. Who knows, they might edit their posts! Screenshot every single post just in case they edit your quote and claim you edited your post. The minute anything you see is edited, stop the bet immediately and confront your betting partner about it. How to screenshot:
Scroll to the post in question. Make sure the full contests are in view. Press "PrtScn" (Print Screen). It should be somewhere in the top right area of your keyboard. Open up Paint or any other software and paste (or Ctrl + V). It is much better to leave the image untouched rather than cropped. Save the image. Repeat for more screenshots.

Make sure all terms are clear and final. Every time you start a new game, say "same terms" or state new ones. It should always be clear! You wouldn't want other people saying "But I thought you said..." after they lose.

RTC; make sure someone said that! If someone rolled AND stated their terms in the same post, ignore them.

Deleted posts should be checked for. Someone may have rolled a losing number and deleted their post in fear and haste. You can probably tell someone deleted a post if you got a notification saying that they quoted you, but the post isn't anywhere in the thread. Or if they quoted you but you didn't get a notification (probably rolled without quoting and deleted posts until they got a good number, then edited their post to quote you to make it look like they quoted you and rolled once). How to check for deleted posts:
In the top right corner of a post, you should see the date and time it was posted. Right next to it is a small orange paper icon which provides a direct link to the post. After a series of numbers is an underscore and another number, which is the number of the post. Look at the post numbers on the page and see if any of them are missing (for example if it jumps from 64 to 66, then post number 65 was deleted). Hovering over the icon will give you the post number (after the underscore - the series of numbers before it is the thread ID number).
Every page will have 15 posts on it by default, so another way to spot deleted posts is to count the number of posts on a page.

Wait for them to send the trade. After 10 minutes, quote and PM them to send the trade. If it seems they have went offline, just wait until they do. If it takes too long, check the last time they logged in (search them in "Friends" and the last login should be there). If they logged in recently and ignored you, PM one more time and subtly add a note about reporting. They should immediately give an excuse and send the trade over. emotion_yatta If not and they have logged in after you sent that PM, wait one more day and report them. It doesn't matter if they transferred the items and gold a hundred times through a hundred accounts; gaia will track everything down.

Note: You can report a scammer here.

Types of Scammers

-Post Deleters: They delete their posts when they roll a bad number. If you weren't online at the time to take screenshots, then use the check for deleted posts method somewhere in this thread. Report if needed.

-Non-RTCers: They go into threads that say "State your terms" and roll. If they roll a low number they edit their post to say "LNW, your turn." If they roll a high number they edit their post to say "HNW, your turn." This isn't even the right way to bet, so just ignore them (or quote them saying "Haha you're funny" wink .

-Term Editors: You bet with someone, HNW. If it's their thread and they roll low number, they edit the post to say LNW and accuse you for editing their words in your quote. If it's your thread, they edit your words in their quote. Example:
Person: 1-100 HNW, betting 500k RTC

Scammer (rolled a 13):
Person
1-100 LNW, betting 500k RTC

Good luck!

Person (rolled a 78 ):

Wth you edited your post, I won because LNW, I'm reporting you

lolnope, you just edited my quotes in your posts.

Report if needed.

-Fake Middlemen: They pretend to be middlemen wanting to help others with bets. Instead of giving the prize to the winner, they take off with both people's money. They could also be a mule of one of the two betters and take the other person's money. Report them and Gaia could track the items and gold to the original account if they were mules.

-Non-repliers: They lose, you win. They don't reply, you got scammed. These people ignore you at all costs, and "forget" to give you your prize. Report them if you send them multiple PMs and quoted them many times and they logged in after that but didn't reply.

-Name-changers: When they lose, they delete all their posts in your thread and change their username. Report them by their original username and Gaia will know what they changed their username to.

-Runners (also known as Excuse-givers): They bet with large amounts. If they win, they make a profit. If they lose, they make an excuse and back off, like saying they sold the item already or spent the gold on something already. Speak to a moderator about this before reporting. Also, check anyone's post history for this before betting with them. If they refuse to send proof in a trade, you can be sure they don't have the money.

-Ignore Scammer: They are similar to runners, betting in large amounts freely but putting their betting partner on their ignore list if they lost.

Note: Mules are often used to avoid being banned, so be careful around betting with anyone with a noob look/username or few posts.

List of Known/Possible Scammers

Disclaimer: Some of these people are only possible scammers. It is all up to you if you want to bet with any of these people. Do not report any of these people unless you yourself have been scammed by them.

ultimate_spidey
Mule: Most likely
Danger: Strongly advised to avoid betting with him.
Extra info: Seen betting in casinos despite not reaching requirements.
Still betting despite seemingly scamming more than one person.
(PM milkutan to add more info to this list, or if you have also been scammed by him.)
Submitted by: Bent Corner
Type of Scammer: Ignore Scammer
How: "I betted with him here. I won 1 mil from him, and he asked for DoN. I said no, and he instantly put me on his ignore list. He did not send me the trade. When I confronted him on a mule account, he said I was a scammer when I have never scammed before."
