The auction will end at

:: There will be a 10 minute snipe guard, meaning the last bid has to stand for 10 minutes.
:: Since I will actually be at work at the time (lunch break), I hereby delegate last minute thread/bid coordinator to Mystaira (since she's my partner in crime for this auction) in case I am unable to manage the thread at that time.

Welcome to The Pavilion Chinese New Year Event!

In celebration of the New Year and the Year of the Dragon, one dragon is up for auction.
The dragon got AB'd within 24 hours so we're upping the stakes with a new auction in collaboration with Mystaira of TGPS fame! More in the auction post.

In addition to the auction there are also many other games to be played and prizes to be won.

As per Chinese New Year tradition, the celebrations will span 16 days

Chinese New Year Eve: January 22nd, 2012
to the
15th day of the New Year: February 6th, 2012
8:00pm PST (GMT-8 ).

Mini games start once the thread is open, but the auction begins on New Years Day (even if I'm not around to announce the start).

EVENT RULES

Follow all the general rules as listed at the main shop thread.

Bid only what you have.

Do not retract bids.

Use the format provided to bid, your bid will not count otherwise. Post all bids in the thread.

Do not bid common items; collectibles and cash shop items are allowed.

If you bid items, use 5% less than the lowest market price. If the price of the item drops you will be responsible to make up the difference.

There is a 10 minute snipe guard. The highest bid must stand for 10 minutes before declared winner.

The winner will have 48 hours to send and complete the trade after s/he is announced. Failure to do so will result in declaring the next highest bidder winner. (Exceptions can be made if the shop is notified beforehand of your absence.)

By bidding you are agreeing to all terms and conditions to become a responsible owner for the child (as described in the Comprehensive List of Rules in the Guild), and will be bound thus until you give up ownership rights.

Because Prosperity (Peony) was AB'd much earlier than expected, with the help of Mystaira of TGPS fame we're upping the stakes and offering another child for auction!
pawn3dkitty will provide the lines while Mystaira colors to make this a Super Special Awesome child!

Dragon Fruit may have dragon in its name, but it is no dragon. It's a fruit (the kid might not be though, your call). Prosperity (Peony) is the dragon. Just wanted to make that clear.

MINI GAMES: PRIZES

Collect red envelopes! Each envelope will contain 1~3 points. The top three people to get the most points can have their choice of...

A familiar-like-thing usable in-character to an extent.

The person with the most disaster rolls in the Firecrackers mini game will also get a... prize. Assuming s/he is not the top three.

MINI GAME: WORD PLAY

Since the first two weeks of the New Year is full of good luck and cheer, certain phrases and words are restricted and not allowed to be spoken. Certain gestures and motions are also not allowed.
Additionally, the Chinese really really really enjoy word play. Numerous traditional dishes that show up on the dinner table New Years night are there because they "sound" lucky. Fish, oranges, pineapples, daikon to name a few.

And so, in celebration, let us emulate that Chinese spirit and join in the word play!

HOW TO PLAY

:: Incorporate as many puns as possible in your daily chatter in the thread. (Emphasis with italics for easier recording.)
:: Spot other people's puns (they don't need to be participating) if one is made unknowingly.
:: Conduct normal chatter without using restricted words or restricted motions.
:: Do not make puns for the sake of making puns, they need to be included smoothly.

:: For each pun used or spotted you get 1 point.
:: For each restricted word/motion used you lose 1 point.
:: Points won from this mini game will be curved so as to prevent it from toppling the other game points.

:: If you wish to participate, post the following in the thread:

RESTRICTED LIST

:: No dying. Of any sort.

:: The number 4 (and all it's forms of spelling) is also restricted, but you may *hold up four fingers*. This is due to the similar pronunciation of 4 and death in Chinese (and Japanese, if you must know what it's like).
:: No ghosts, nor mention of ghosts. If you must speak of them, refer to them as "our good buddies." The same applies to spirits.
:: Losing is also not to be mentioned. Uttering the word (and it's many forms, stupid English language) will only bring bad luck to you.
:: Failure is not an option.
:: Don't question the restricted list.

:: I may add random words to the list later to make things more interesting.

MINI GAME: FIRECRACKERS

Once upon a time, the Chinese people feared the end of the year. For every year, without mistake, the Nein (year) monster would come. Every year it would come, with it's eyes as big as sauce pans and horrible gnashing teeth. It would visit each town, each village, at the stroke of midnight, and gobble up what unfortunate soul was left behind--for all the able bodied people had by then escaped to the caves of nearby mountains.

To cut a long story short, eventually an Immortal came by and dealt with the bugger, scaring it off with bright red strips of paper (for the monster had sensitive eyes) and loud firecrackers (for the monster had sensitive ears) and so, now, every year at the stroke of midnight, when the old year becomes the new, People set off fireworks to ward off the creature.

HOW TO PLAY

Apple bobbing returns with a Chinese twist!

At random intervals throughout the event, three strings of firecrackers will be hung out in the street thread to be lit. Participating persons will roll 2d6 to determine their success rate, and subsequently role-play the result/reactions.
The first 3 persons to successfully roll the winning roll(s) will receive 3 points, 2 points, and 1 point respectively.

All participants may continue rolling until all 3 firecrackers are lit. All rolls must be role-played for winning rolls to count (so no skipping over failure rolls). Role-play posts to not need to be detailed, but refrain from Person: *action* spoken words posts. Try to write a complete sentence or two.

MINI GAME: SNIPING GOOD TIDINGS

Continuing with the Nien story from the previous post, after surviving Chinese New Years Eve without getting eaten by the hideous monster, people will come out of the caves (and later just their houses) congratulating and greeting everyone they met, commending them for surviving the attack. People also developed the tradition of giving red envelopes (generally only to kids but the restrictions differ from family to family).

The general rule was this: when visited, if (the kids) greet the guest and wish him a happy new year (or other good tidings), they will be awarded with a red envelope.

Thus, for every new face that comes into the thread, the first 1~3 persons who greet and/or offer good tidings will get a red envelope.
