Akoikantha can begin breeding approximately
one month after they've become adults,
and their birthing cycle usually lasts
two to three weeks. Like most fish, akoikantha
release hundreds if not thousands of eggs into the oceans. Usually, however, only a few,
perhaps
one to six of the eggs survive to hatch -- most are eaten by larger predators
or by other hatched akoikantha, or are washed away to their deaths.
