In Memory of VonLied

VonLied was the originator of the idea to join our threads together into one big
freebie spot of sausage-muffin-munching 'gasmic goodness.

He was killed in action in service to his country Sept. 2nd, 2010.
Needless to say, this has had an impact on all of us.
He was such a great friend to us, and he will be sorely missed.
His memory will remain with us forever, and ever, and ever...

You may find a number of us wearing a piece of green and/or an eye patch
in memory of our great and wonderful friend.
It is not necessary. Simply a show of remembrance.

● Please be at least semi-literate. If you have access to a computer and have made your way to Gaia, there must be some semblance of grammar deep down inside. I know there are occasional typos, as I do have some every so often, so that is alright.
● Try to keep bumping to a minimum unless you are a hired bumper. Try to converse; I like people who converse.
● No quoting the first page posts.
● Just because one of the artists says "I'll consider it" doesn't mean "Oh yes, I'll definitely draw it right away and please pester me any time to be sure I'm working on your art"... it means "I'll consider it."
● Have patience. This is the most important rule of all. This is a freebie thread. Out of the goodness of our hearts, we are offering our talent for no charge to you. So shut up and feel privileged.

Welcome to: Into the Craptacular Void!

Why the strange name you ask? The title came into being by VonLied as we all were trying to think up a name for this shop. He took the bits and pieces from different shop names and fused them together to bring you this.

Why Freebie Joint Art Shop?

All of us have some sort of passion for drawing and feel the need to share it with others. We like not having time constraints on our muses. That way, our creativity may be able to flourish. I cannot express this enough, pressuring us is not a way of getting art it may bring about a cancellation to your request. Please respect the artists' present and be patient with us, hopefully in time you will be rewarded if we choose you.

All of us had been discussing how hard it was to keep bouncing from thread to thread and since we are all freebie artists', we decided a joint shop would be best.

Want a different avatar drawn? Then give me a tektek link.

Want me to draw a OC? Then provide me with as much information as you can. Reference pics are a +

- Most of my work will be in gray scale. Color is completely my choice.

- I do seem to gravitate toward darker, spiky, creature-y stuff than cuteness.

I am VonLied, most just call me Von. I majored in illustration for two years before I joined the Navy. I have been drawing since 1994. I started out drawing anime/manga but began to shy way as soon as I went to college. But, now that I have sold my soul to the Navy, I don't have as much time on my hands to do what my hands do best, draw. After five years of doing avi art for Gaians and friends, I have finally come to the conclusion that commissions really do put a huge strain on your "muse". Freebies make my life much easier, since the Navy is running my life in the mean time. I am no longer requesting gold or items for my work, I only request inspiration.

I think my favorite memory is one of my last of him. When I got him that item he was questing for... I think it was some kind of seed... I can't remember. Von's never tackled me before and he did after he found out I was the one that sent him the item. *smiles* That made me happy that he liked the gift.

I hardly knew him, but from what I did know of him, he seemed like a good soul.
He'll be missed by all, I'm sure.

I have but one memory with Von Lied. That was when he and I exchanged word play, using his name.

I knew him a few years, but it felt like we'd been joking around together forever.
He was like a brother to me.

I remember the smile he'd create with just a simple green ninja'ed post.
The way he'd comment and the way he would boast.
The comparative talk of so many infinite wings, the drunken nights when he'd dance and he'd sing.

The talk of comics, of bills and of school and of studies.
When I'd tutor him in math, he'd always think a drink was his buddy.

The way he'd randomly pelvic thrust through a forum,
and the way he'd let everyone know there was no need for decorum.

The way he'd strut with his twinkies in the air, he'd always wear an eye patch with such fun and flare.

He'd joke in the void throwing sausages to Mel.
As they'd both snicker and hold their tummies as they fell.

There was nothing Craptacular about him even though he'd disagree.
If he saw someone with boobs he'd probably follow and plea.

The talk of things that started with Von,
We'd make a list if it weren't so long.

The only ones I can mention was a night of hysterical laughter,
When Trin, Yuuka, Zana and I would spend one of many a night--
with Von and giggle as we'd pretend to be advertsing masters.

Working with planes by day and painting at night,
he was a magnificent sight.

German Whiskey was his favorite choice of drink.
If you weren't vigilant, you'd miss him in a blink.

A dedicated soldier and a wonderful friend.
We will all miss you and even though its' your end,
We will always love you and hold you in our hearts and in our head.

It makes me sad to know so many people who've been killed in this pointless "war on terrorism"...The addition of Von to the list is almost too much to bear...But I'm proud of each and every soldier, sailor and airman on my list and those who weren't. It wasn't them that decided we needed to try and solve another country's problems before we fix our own.
