The Great Gaian Aquarium Strike/Petition!
UPDATE!
I AM NO LONGER TAKING SIGNATURES!
Because:
1. Gaia has restored the our glow frequency.
2. We have taken our fish out of Barret's tank.
3. We are taking a wait and see approach to what Gaia does next regarding us not purchasing Gaia Cash and such.
I will NOT update this thread unless there is a significant change in aquariums!
UPDATE!
Seems glowtimes are back to the norm (although many of us will monitor diligently wink ) and there is no further need to freeze your fish. With the main issue addressed i see no further need to keep taking names. I thank all for they're support. smile
UPDATE! Here's Lanzer's reply from the AtA:
For Dolphinmania members:
I have talked to _xX Es-One Xx_ and your tank will NOT be removed from dolphimania if you participate! smile
As many of you do or do not know Gaia has nerfed the time between glows making them longer (average of 4-6 glows a day now). Many of you see this as a good thing as it will "fight inflation". Inflation is something that will happen regardless of aquariums. Everyone seems to think that aquariums are the main cause of inflation which is not true... there are many guilds out there that are intentionally inflating items by hoarding them... do you really believe a NM Sash is worth 210k? xd This will also lead to less tanks being refilled in the near future which will drastically reduce the aquarium community. This move only serves to hurt tank owners and the aquarium community as a whole so think about it next time you need to refill your tank... is it really worth it now?
Every aquarium item on Gaia was purchased by someone with REAL MONEY. For every Dolphin out there $4.99 ($2.49 sale price) was spent... that's $84.83 ($42.41 sale price) spent for every full dolphin tank. How many full dolphin tanks are there? You do the math. Will you as a tank owner be able to earn back the gold you've spent? That's THOUSANDS of people's hard earned money spent. When you purchase an item with cash you purchase said product for its current function NOT for it to be altered unknowingly soon after. These kinds of deceptive business tactics have been going on in the shadows and been going unacknowledged by Gaia for far too long! They purposely do this thinking we will not notice or that we will sit back and begrudgingly accept it.
So what do we do? Start a thread in Site Feedback? That seems to always go unnoticed. Start a petition? That seems to always go unnoticed as well. Gaia seems to employ a "hide in the shadows" technique regarding anything negative. They never seem to openly acknowledge any changes in aquariums. 99% of all changes are reported by users who diligently monitor their tanks for the benefit of others. It seems the only people who care about this are tank owners and not players. Players can still earn but owners are losing up to 40% of their profits thus hindering their ability to break even on their investment. Tank owners are who give Booty Grabbers the ability to play - and if tank owners are hurt, players will also be hurt as tanks are not refilled because the tank owners lost gold.
In other areas of Gaia (for example zOMG) the Developers actually interact with the community via announcements, dialogue with users and processing feedback. This seems to be the exact opposite with aquariums. I can't recall once developers announcing that fish will or have been altered in any way. It's very deceptive and will lead to the demise of one of, if not the most active/productive sections of the Gaian community.
So what do we do?
WE STRIKE!
We raise awareness of this problem by putting all of our fish in Barrett's tank! (Your fish will be frozen, hence they do not age.) If there are less tanks to play, users (and maybe even Gaia) will take notice of the bleak future that is sure to follow if these changes are to stay. Sure there will be some users who put their greed before the betterment of the overall community but i also believe the majority will stand together to get their point across. The purpose of freezing our fish is to raise awareness and you DO NOT have to participate, it is your choice. wink We all have our own opinions on the best way to go about things and we should all be respectful to each other regarding this.
* a good suggestion i got from David2074 was to temporarily cancel/freeze all booty grab related contests in BG threads and guilds.
What do we hope to accomplish?
* To raise awareness of these deceptive business tactics
* Encourage more (hell.. any!) interaction between developers/admins and the aquarium community
* Disrupt the income gained by Gaia by not purchasing aquarium items
* ACTUALLY get a response from someone that receives a paycheck from GaiaOnline!
* change our glow rate frequency back to normal

DO NOT BUY GAIA CASH!
This is the easiest way for them to notice. Take $ out of Gaia's pockets and they're sure to notice! Why spend your hard earned money on items that will be altered after you purchase?
******************************************************
If you would like to join us/show your support, just post in this thread with something along the lines of "add me" and how many tanks you own (do not tell me your mules names... just how many you have) and we'll add your name to the list. smile
We will start emptying our tanks on Friday the 9th of April for the duration of one week, I feel it will be noticed more if we start on a weekend when there are more grabbers online. wink
Feel free to make banners for this thread! I will post them here for others to use!
* Any suggestions to add to this post just pm me! smile

Hello ~
Booty Grab Frequency problem which caused the rate of fish glow to be slightly less often is now fixed. smile
CP
-Edit - The bug wasn't the code side, BTW. Human mistake on my part, and sorry to cause problem. O_o;
Aquarium feature goes through a constant optimizations, fixes, and adjustments in the back even though the end users does not see it. Optimization is almost always to benefit the payers while also try to provide good general Gaia users experience . Only two people can make constant adjustments to aquarium, and they are CP (myself) and CP2. In this case, the problem was on my behalf, (and poor CP2 fixed the problem) Please take my sincere apology.
On Lanzer's ATA, he's talking about more on the general Gaia economy principle, and particularly regarding certain Aquarium Aggregate sites causing some user behavior and economic problem.

The concern that started catching our attention was that there were a lot of people making aggregation links or sites that automated the booty grab experience, it's not exactly botting but it's circumventing the way which the game was designed to be played.
Imagine, if a certain game has 10 ways to earn money, and then through out the year someone figured out ways to make one way to earn money 10 times better than the other 9 ways to earn money in ways that the creators didn't anticipated for, we need to start adjusting before we have a serious case of inflation and before all other ways of earning or other activities be considered as useless. It's more of a matter of game balancing and also to make the overall game more fair for everyone. Though in this case the intent was not to nerf the value or return of the tank owners. We'll continue to make adjustments to compensate for the adjustment.
In any online game, patches are made that will change the aspects of gameplay. We're not making these changes for the sake of making more money. As you mentioned, if you're unhappy, you wouldn't want to pay for any fishes or items. Our goal is make sure that the game is fair and that a year down the road the economy isn't ruined to the point where there's no game left to play. I hope that we can avoid that, and we're doing everything we can while keeping note on everyone's feedback.

Also, relevant and theoretical Gaian example: you bought an EI (say, Gogh Reed). Suddenly and without warning (after all generations are finished evolving), Gaia decides to remove a large number of the poses from the EI and sells it as a "new" item. No announcement or reasoning for this is given by Gaia admin.
Now, Gaia never said that one gets to keep their poses once the EI is done evolving. Gaia still has every right to do such a thing, but it's completely immoral and unethical for them to do so. Community backlash commences as a result.

By these figures, Gaia's $1 million in monthly revenue pays for a WHOLE YEAR of server costs.
Which is equal to about $561,276 per year.

Many of those conceptions probably changed as Apple's iTunes Store got people comfortable buying digital tracks for 99 cents, said Craig Sherman, who heads Gaia Online, another online fantasy world. Gaia gets most of its $1 million monthly revenue from players who buy virtual goods ranging from puppy ears to lightning bolts to something called a "coal tavern wench's bustier."
