An Introduction and Welcome from the Hosts and the Judges ~

Hello, and welcome to Citizen Soldiers! I'm KeyJester (real name Anett, but you can call me whatever you want - my list of nicknames just keeps on growing) and I'm the main host of this event along with my friend Aya Steli and our guests Blukai, Acidic Cynic and Renaissance Phoenix. This art contest is something I've had as a goal since March 2007, so finally being able to put this show on the road is, to me, the biggest event of the year, and my Gaiaonline life! I'm hoping we can all come together to make this a huge event that we'll all remember for years to come, in a positive way!
This contest was also my birthday present for myself, as I turned 25 on the 15th of January! Yay me! ^w^

Yo! I'm Aya Steli. I'll be a co-judge in this contest along with puseluria. =D The Butterfly Branch along with The Erescess organisation are all my OCs, and I love them all very dearly so don't go making them do weird stuff like...My imagination is to vivid. No comment. =P So, these are the characters we have put 13 years of work behind. I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing, but it goes without saying that this is something both I and KJ cares alot for. Since my computer has been dead for almost 2 months now, I'll be spending time updating my Oc's profiles - hopefully I'll finish before the contest ends wink - and I' also be looking at all the great work of art you're making for us. ;D So find your inner soldier and aim for the top! Well then, Jolly good. ^^

Hi, I'm Blukai and I'm KeyJester's younger brother. I'm only 12, so they closed my account on Gaia, but I will be back next year! I love Bionicle and Dragons, and my character in this contest was my first real original character ever!

Acidic Cynic here. I've got one very unremarkable OC swimming in the character pool, but I'm mostly here to help out and have fun. Ask me anything. You have a 37% chance of getting a useful answer, and the rest of the time I'll probably just play with you. =D
But seriously, you're gonna want to be a part of this. Dive in, my little whisky kittens. The water's nice.

Why hai thar! I'm Renaissance Phoenix (real name: Chelsea. Alias: Raye/Ren/Flame bird), and I'm here half because I was invited, and half because I elbowed my way in and pretty much demanded to be included. Except I didn't demand. I'm way more subtle than that. I've got two characters to throw into the mix, both near and dear to my heart, so I hope you'll check them out! KJ, Aci and I are old Gaia friends (seriously, like, since '05), and though I don't have the pleasure of knowing Aya Steli or Blukai, I'm sure we're all going to be extremely pleased with what we see here! Question :: How can I enter this amazing contest?!
Answer :: Now that one's pretty easy. Just make an eligible entry and upload it to your DeviantArt, photobucket, imageshack or wherever else you upload your art. Then copy the entry form and add the link to your entry in it, and post the entry form in this specific thread! ^_^ See, that's not so hard, is it?

Q :: Can I PM my entry to you?
A :: No, I'd rather you post it in the thread. Of course, if you're one of those who doesn't want to let anyone see your entry before the end of the contest, you can PM the entry to our assistant Crevida, and then post in the thread that it has been sent! This should also be done if your entry can upset fragile members, in case of mature content.

Q :: Does this mean you allow nude pictures?
A :: You perv! XD No, it does not. We will not allow anything that goes against the Gaiaonline Terms of Service!! So keep your pants on, pervy! *rofl*

Q :: How many entries can I enter, and how many of them can I win with?
A :: You can enter as many pieces as you like, but one entry can only win one prize! I will be saving the entries not by name, but with codes, so when judging the entries we won't even know which artist did which to make it fair. If your art is really good, you might be lucky enough to win with all of your entries. But, we do not encourage you to spam our contest with your art. ;>.> We prefer you do one or a couple of really good entries, than many not-so-good ones, okay?

Q :: In the entry form you have to fill in which category the entry fits under. Do we really have to do so?
A :: Well, no, not really. This is just in case certain artists have made an entry with a specific category in mind, and can then let us know this by filling in this in their entry form. But it is not something you have to do. =)

Q :: But, if I want to fill out the category thing, how do I figure out which category my entry fits under?
A :: Firstly, a good idea would be to check out the Categories and Prizes in post 4 to know more about the categories. Then, inspect your own entry. Does it fit under any of the categories listed? This shouldn't be too hard to figure out. ^^ Also, if you can't figure it out, then don't worry. As I've already said, you don't have to fill this out if you don't want to. =3

Q :: Holy sh**, there's a lot of characters listed in this contest! Do you expect us to draw them all?!
A :: Ehe. ^_^; No, not really. Yes, the total of character's listed in this thread exceeds 100, but the 20 OC's listed as the Main Cast are the ones you should have your focus on. They're the main attraction in this event. =) The rest of the weirdos are only listed to give more options when doing the special categories, and because we think they do deserve a little attention for putting up with the rest of the Main Cast. XD

Q :: Uh, there's this weird [CS] symbol in some of the profiles in the guild. What does that mean? And does it have any special effect on the contest..?
A :: Woa, nice spotting there! Yes, there are certain profiles that have been marked at the beginning of the profile with the CS symbol, and this is because the OCs in question are all members of a special squad within Crevida.
It won't really affect the contest in any way, but I can go as far as to say that those OCs with the CS symbol in their profiles are favourited OCs that I would prefer getting art of, and I do have some very special future plans for them. 'o'

Q :: Who are the judges, and how are you judging the entries?
A :: I am the main judge, along with my friend Aya Steli. Blukai, Acidic Cynic and Renaissance Phoenix are the guest judges and will judge all the entries containing their OCs.
Personally, I judge based on how much the picture fits the character(s) before anything else. I look at how much of the "essence" of the character the artist have managed to capture within the picture. I also see how much effort seems to have been put into it, and how well done the overall piece is. Details is always a plus for me!

Renaissance Phoenix :: Well, let's see...basically, I have to agree with Acidic Cynic this one. The main things are definitely "Is it pretty?" and "Is it Raye/James?" Also, group art of Raye and KJ's extra character Cajo will win bonus points. ninja

Q :: What type of art do you prefer?
A :: Anything and everything! Whatever YOU feel the most comfortable doing, and what does the best job of portraying the characters is what I like the best. ^_~
Aya Steli :: Hmm..I actually don't have any preferances tbh. As stated above; there are certain things I will be looking for, and it doesn't really have anything to do with your choice of style.

Acidic Cynic :: Whatever! Though I do like realism, and pictures with backgrounds/detailed settings. And pieces with single/double uniting themes, like something based around purple or books.
Renaissance Phoenix :: Photography. xd Which I realize does you absolutely no good. Well, let's see. I do like line art, if you don't mind if I color it. And when I say color it, I mean actually print it out and get out my Crayola colored pencils and just have at it in the middle of Calculus. I also greatly admire CG'd stuff, but I just don't have the talent to pull it off. Also, I'm a fan of photomanipulations, if that's up anyone's Photoshop-owning alley...

Q: How about dolls and avatar edits then?
A: Actually, yes! We do have a sub category that's for such specific things! Only use doll bases you've done yourself, though, unless you've gotten permission to use someone else's bases. Make sure to give them credit then! However, dolls or avatar edits are not eligible for winning any of the main prizes! It can only win in the category made for them.

Q: How about emotes, flobs and stuff like that?
A: That would be so cool. O.O If we get many entries like that, I'll make an entire category for it!

Q :: Uh.. Fidlmadov? O.ó
A :: Ahahah.. ^_^; Yes, that would be the entry word I want you to put in your entry so I know you've read the rules or this FAQ. The meaning behind it is a bit of an inside joke between me and one of my characters. And trust me; you DO NOT want to know! XD

Q :: Can I draw one of my own characters?
A :: Why, yes you can! 'o' We love seeing our people interact with others, so I've made a category dedicated entirely to that specific thing! ^o^ Just remember that you can only draw any of your own characters as long as one or more of OUR OCs are pictured in there as well!

Q: But in all honesty, which are your favourite characters?
A: Gah! That's the worst question ever! How can I choose?! I've got 245 characters in my main story, and it's a miracle I managed to cut it down to just the small amount of characters shown in this thread! So yeah, my favs are already listed. Also, there are certain OCs in the character guild that has a CS symbol in them, and those are specially favourited OCs I love. <3 But the dearest ones have to be... Liz and Mj, I think. And Skye. Those three are my oldest.
Out of Aya Steli's OCs, there is no doubt that my favourite is Rimi. <3 Yuri, Leon, J, Peter and Chim also means a lot to me, but Rimi is definitely my number one!
Aya Steli :: I love all of my OC's, they're sorta like my babies =P Whom I favor most usually depends on which I spend the most time working on.
But, I'll list J, Rimi, Chris/Dane, Leon and Jaryco as my top 5 of my own.

Q: Can I submit some old work I've done for you..?
A: Nope! I'm looking for fresh and new art for our babies, so sorry.

Q :: Do you allow collabs?
A :: Of course we do. Just make sure you agree on who we send the price to if you win, and we also want to see that both artists have agreed on this!

Q: Can I tweak and fiddle with the clothes and stuff?
A: Sure ya can! As long as it fits the general style of the characters, you can do whatever you want! Just don't change the actual design of the actual character, and I won't complain. There's even a category that allows you to design outfits for our lovelies!

Q :: You're using items as prizes.. What if their value drops during the contest?
A :: Yes, I know that is a huge issue, but no worries. I've got a load of spare items (mostly MCs) lying around that will be thrown in to raise the value if worst comes to worst. And I'll be gathering gold throughout the entire contest, just to be on the safe side! XD

Q: What if you don't get enough art for one category. What happens then?
A: Well, if we don't get enough pieces of art (from different artists) for one category, we might not give out the prize for that specific category. Sorry! We'd like to get at least 5 pieces of art for each category to deal out the prizes. However! If we don't get enough art for a category, but the art that we've gotten is just beyond great, then we'll give out the prizes either way. Good art deserves to be rewarded!

Q: Those designer categories are rather special... Are you expecting at least 5 different people to submit art under each of those subcategories in there?
A: Yes! Ah, no. No, no.. We won't be too greedy, especially since some of those are about designing cars and ships. On those categories, we are hoping to get at least 2-3 pieces of art for each category for us to give out the prizes. Of course, if we only get one piece of art under one category, and it just blows our mind with greatness, then we'll give out the prize after all.

Q: So, what are you actually going to do with all this art anyway...?
A: It'll be posted in their profiles, some of it, as reference art and such, but mainly I'll just store it on my computer and admire it whenever I can, and some of it may even be printed out and framed so I can hang it up in my apartment. <3 I'm an artwhore, mkay? XD
I will also be using it as inspiration when writing, cause I know of no better way to get rid of a writer's block than to admire some lovely art!

Or make heavy-paper acid-free posters and plaster them around the circumference of the Skytower as far up as I can reach, which is about six feet. Renaissance Phoenix :: If I get any lineart, I intend to color it during Calculus. Other than that...well, James would be primarily for admiring for myself. Raye art would be used as reference art in her RP profile on the rare occasions that I use her anymore, being as she's attached herself to KJ's Cajo and is unlikely to make many appearances without him.

Ok... I has a question....

I use music with my art, by that I mean, when I'm drawing or painting or CGing ect. I have music playing that helps set the mood and give me ideas for the character/s or scene I'm drawing... So do you have songs/theme songs for your characters, or should I pick songs that I beleive suits the characters. If I do, do you want me to post which song I used for the art piece/s?

A ::That depends on the characters, actually, cause some of them have entire playlists of songs that remind me of them. =3 If you're reading their full profiles (the pics should link to them), there should be a list of the songs at the bottom of the profiles, if the character have any songs at all. ^^
But if you find other songs that you think suit them, then go ahead and use them and post which songs you've used. It's always fun to see what songs others combine with our creations. *w*

Naming Contest
All of these OCs (except the guest OCs, of course) come from the same stories that all takes place within the same world. This world contains many dimensions, several worlds within worlds, and every single one of these worlds have a name. But after all this time, no one has ever named the entire world itself. The In-Bouncers

With such an awesome contest, we really have to properly whore it out and get some attention this way so no one feels like they're left out of it! And this is why we've decided to host an in-bouncer contest so everyone and anyone can have a go at getting some rewards for pointing artists in our direction and getting them to enter the contest! But before you attack this, we gotta make some rules clear for you!

1~ Do NOT advertise mindlessly
Some people don't allow advertisement in their threads, and a lot of people will be annoyed if they get spammed with people wanting them to go check something out. Make sure you won't break any rules before you start advertising, and please be respectful! We'd rather not have our contest get a bad reputation, okay?

2~ Be clever about it
Just dropping an advertisement post and taking off won't really get you anywhere. Disguising the advertisement in either your signature or post style makes it look better, and it won't look like you're mindlessly advertising. Also, try talking to people and carefully drop some hints here and there to see if you can intrigue them. It'll make them more interested, and it will increase the chances of them checking out the contest.

3~ Think before advertising
If you're advertising an OC contest in an art shop that strictly does avatar art, you'll get nothing. Try seeking out different types of artists and point them towards the specific parts of the contest. Know of an artist that likes designing outfits? Point him/her towards the clothing design category! Know of an artist that does avatar edits or pixel dolls? Point them towards that category! You get the idea? Be smart when advertising, cause that's where you'll get the big ones to bite.

4~ Again, DO NOT advertise mindlessly!
We cannot stress this enough! The last thing we want is getting a reputation for being an invading contest that bothers artists and spams up the forums with advertisement. That won't get us any nifty art at all. ;_; Be clever about it, and think before advertising! Okay? ;3

Now, on to the good parts!

How to participate

To participate in this mini-contest you have us add you to our in-bouncer list (just state that you want to be on it, and we'll add you), and then you start gathering points. Points can be gained through getting affiliations, getting artists to check out the contest, and, of course, by getting artists to enter the contest. Different things get you different points, and for certain amounts of points you get you'll win a small reward! And when the art contest is over, the person with the most points will win the Best In-Bouncer Prize! Anyone can participate, but just remember that you can't start gathering points before you're on the in-bouncer list!

How to get Points

Gain [1] Point
Gather affiliations! Spread our banners throughout GaiaOnline and collect banners and links to other places that we can put up in here to get a point. Once you've confirmed that people want to affiliate (check and see that our banner is in their link section), you post their banner in this thread and we'll add it. This will get you 1 point for each affiliation! But! Only ask to affiliate with people who's open for that, so no intruding! Also, we will double-check to see if you've actually gotten the affiliation before you get your point.

For this, use any of the banners found in our banner section, or make your own!

Gain [1] Point
Get artists to check out our contest, and give you an extra point while they do that. To do this, you just post the form below somewhere (you can have it in your sig or in your post style, or post it in threads if the thread owners don't mind) and have people post it in this thread. You'll get 1 point for each person who posts it!
