HALTIA

[Anima Limini]

Land of the Chosen

Legend of the Chosen

Beyond the boundaries of the world

Everyone has a second chance

In the place where wishes swallowed up by death

Are reborn.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Welcome to Wünschenhimmel!

The city itself seems like every other city you've seen; busy, humming with energy. There may be something different about the air in this city, this Wünschenhimmel, and the people here seem... somehow more successful. But if you ask them about their good fortune, the inhabitants of the city just smile and shrug.

"Oh, we're just lucky that way."

While wandering the streets of the business district, you dart beneath the towering buildings and through the open markets, dodging cars and buses along the way. Turning a corner, you bump into a girl who immediately drops her shopping-bags, scattering vegetables and fruits and shatter-proof bottles of milk all over the sidewalk.

"Oh, oh no!" she frets, bending down to pick them up again, and to your surprise you realize that she's dressed like a maid. Well, she's carrying a lot of food in those two bags, so maybe she is a maid... and stronger than she looks. As you awkwardly begin to help her gather her groceries, she looks up at you and smiles sheepishly.

"Thank you! Um..." She nods to her torn shopping-bags, then asks "Could you help me carry these back home?"

'Home,' it seems, is a mansion that looks roughly as though it could house half the city, situated behind a pair of arching gates with ironwork like roses and thorny vines. You gape a little, and then the maid smiles back at you, one hand on the gates.

"My name is Mei," she says, "and I work for Mister Alain. Would you like to come in and meet him?"

You aren't certain about it, but... Well, she's just a maid. And it looks like a nice place.

What could be the harm... ?

1.Follow both the Gaia ToS and the Daisy Code. Play nice, dangit! (At least, OOC.)

2. This is a roleplay-heavy shop, therefore Flatsales will be prompts (unless specified otherwise) and roleplaying is mandatory. You don't have to be on every day, but at least four posts per month (in the guild, shop thread, and/or any active events) or you're getting a warning. If you don't respond after the warning, you're going to lose your Haltia. If you'll be away for a while - family business, exam time, or whatever - let us know in advance. To see who's on hiatus, check the owners list in Post 5.

3. Building on the above post, don't make a post and then disappear; at least make an attempt to keep the story going. If you're in a thread, try not to drop it unless circumstances insist on it: You're leaving for a while, someone else is going on hiatus, the shop is overhauling, ect. Repeatedly dropping threads will reap consequences. Details in the Roleplaying section, Post 8.

4. No bashing or hate-posts. It’s okay to fight on the roleplay, but bashing a user or a mod is not acceptable. On a related subject, don't take things in the RP personally; if someone's character is being rude to your character, it doesn’t mean that the player hates you.

5. Don't harass the staff or artists with "When will X grow/breed/ect?" Haltia will evolve and grow depending on your participation with the shop (both in RP and OOC in the shop thread) and how fast the artist/s can work. Staff have lives too, you know.

6. Don't steal the Haltia art, don't alter it, don't trace it, don't resell it, ect. You can crop it, resize it, add borders, make icons and flobs, but you need to credit either the shop or the artist, and you can't use it off of Gaia Online without permission from the artist.

User ImageUser Image
7. Payment is due promptly upon winning a Haltia; once you're announced as the winner and post, you have 24 hours to send the payment before your Haltia is revoked. All trades are to be in pure gold, and must be sent to the shop mule (Mei The Maid), NOT to Haseshi or Apa. Title the trade with whatever you're paying for (ex. Black Leaf Auction Haltia), and the page-number if necessary (ex. Certing Familiar, pg. 10).

8. On a related note, do NOT PM questions or requests for affiliates/pet trades/ect to the shop-owners either; those questions are to be asked in the thread, or PM'd to the mule if it's urgent.

The Legend of The Wish-God

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a god.

He had come into being because of the wishes of the people who inhabited this land. It was wide, and green, and only a short time ago it seemed that it would remain empty forever. At that time, this god we speak of now did not exist.

But, when people came to inhabit this land, they began to work and clear the land.

They hunted the animals.

They formed a culture.

After a time, they began to wish for what they did not have.

Some sought wealth; some would have love; some dreamed of power, or a life beyond the tall green trees. And because of these wandering wants, the desires of the new people called into being a god, whom they simply called He Who Gives.

The people prospered, and He Who Gives granted their heart's desires. Should one want beauty or riches or adventure, He Who Gives would give your your dream. And, in return, his powers grew on the belief of those who called on him.

Until one day.

On that day, the people realized that they no longer had any wishes which He Who Gives could grant. They had all the gold and jewels that they could desire; their beauty was unsurpassed; their towers stretched into the sky. They now desired to expand, but when they came as a people to He Who Gives and told him of their new desire, He Who Gives was long silent... and then he shook his head.

"I am only of this land," he said, "and there are other gods, far fiercer than I, who dwell beyond this world I have given you. Be contented with your lives here, and ask of me the things you've asked before."

This answer confused the crowd, which slowly grew enraged. Never once had He Who Gives denied a request from those who believed in him, and although the people repeated with desire He Who Gives would only give the same reply.

"I cannot take you beyond these lands."

"I am sorry."

"Be content with what you have."

But the people would not be content, not after so long of having everything that they could think to wish for. So the people of this green land turned against their god, and one terrible night they captured him and tore him into pieces. His blood soaked into the earth, and the people of the land heaped soil and stone over his body, and vowed to forget that such a being had ever existed.

In the present day, this land has transformed into a sprawling city, whose name is the only remnant of its long-forgotten past. The city is called Wünschenhimmel, and in this city almost everyone lives as people do in countless other towns, enjoying all the conveniences of modern life.

Except...
User ImageUser Image

On the westernmost edge of the city, beyond the borders of cement and traffic, there stands a mansion of black and white stone. Behind the ornamented gates lies a building which seems to be entirely tended by a single young maid who seems forever young. Living in that mansion, seen only behind the iron gates or through the windows that are not shaded, is a man of great mystery and piercing eyes.

Some people say that his name is Alain.

He is only seen by chance outside of his fine home, in the delicate darkness between midnight and dawn. He walks the strange, silent woods that border the city, a satchel over his shoulder, and a carving knife in one hand...

It's said that, from the wood of those strange trees, he creates the most exquisite dolls.

Alain
The Enigmatic Aristocrat
A mysterious man who looks to be in his mid- to late twenties, Alain is the occupant and apparent owner of the Black&White Manor, a mansion within the forest north of Wünschenhimmel. Alain is only seen through the the bars of the mansion's gates, or through the windows of the manor. Little is known of Alain or his past, except for the fact that he makes strange dolls from the wood of the trees... and he doesn't seem to age, having been there in that manor for longer than any can remember. On the rare occasions when he deigns to speak to others, he seems to be hiding something behind his smile, and more often than not drops seemingly-random comments into other peoples' conversations.

User Image

Sivan
The Traveler Extraordinaire
Although there are always people passing through Wünschenhimmel, Sivan is a repeat visitor. Following his own schedule, Sivan travels through the world and acquires unusual items, selling them to people he thinks might appreciate them. His striking figure is instantly recognizable, and beneath his eyepatch lies an eye that can see the spirit-world; with this, he captures "likely" souls in glass-like orbs. He claims to do so because he thinks they're pretty, but his trips into Wünschenhimmel are solely to drop said soul-orbs off with Alain. Since he travels, Sivan isn't always in town, but while he's around he's more than happy to talk to whoever approaches him.

User Image

Mei
The Cheerful Maid
The young maid who works at the Black&White Manor, Mei keeps the place neat, buys the groceries, prepares the food... As best she can, anyway. Mei is eternally prone to tripping over cracks in the sidewalk, knocking things down, and a thousand other little accidents; at least she never seems to get injured, though, and she goes about the day with a cheerful smile. She knows more about her mysterious employer than one would think, but she keeps Alain's secrets and may be somewhat less hapless than she lets on. Her round glasses are always there, almost like a part of her body, but removing them...

+ Requirements

Stage 1 - Naught

User Image

This is what you receive first: A blank, ball-jointed doll-body. It's unique that the entire thing seems to be carved from the same wood, which is slightly-fragrant with the faint scent of spice. The Naught does not move, does not talk, is completely inanimate, although some may sense a strange, almost ghost-like aura around its wooden body.

Requirements to Achieve: None; This is the default.

Stage 2 - Versteckt

User Image

A locked "treasure box"... although, it doesn't always look like a box, per se. Within the box lies a soul, one which - if all goes well - will animate your Naught someday soon. The Vessel itself is unbreakable, at least without also smashing the fragile soul within, and the appearance of the container will hint at the Vessel's contents.

Requirements to Achieve:
* Own a Naught with a first-page-setup-completed Journal
* Complete your 'Meeting with ..." RP with the NPCs.

Stage 3 - Portal

User Image
A key... But not just any key. This key is found after an arduous journey through a restless Sanctum: The mental world of the soul you wish to capture. Success grants you the Portal, which will unlock your Vessel at last. The Portal, like the Vessel, is unique to each future
Haltia, and only the Guardian, the specified NPCs, and the Haltia can hold it.

User ImageUser ImageRequirements to Achieve:
* Complete at least one OPR
* Have IC Journal-entries depicting your Guardian's reaction to recieving the Naught, being given the Versteckt, and on the Last Memory
* Successfully complete the Last Memory RP with NPC assistance.

Stage 4 - Vessel

User Image

Your Portal has unlocked the Versteckt, and you are now able to see the soul that you'll be caring for. At this point the sphere will be fairly tough, so it's recommended that guardians carry the soul-sphere close to their heart whenever possible; this will provide the semi-dormant spirit within the soul-sphere with ambient energy, which it will need to evolve.

Requirements to Achieve:

* Complete at least one completed PRP or ORP
* A Journal entry, at least 400 words in length, in which describes your guardian opening the Vessel and gaining access to the soul-sphere

Stage 5 - Peri
User Image
User ImageUser Image

Congratulations! You have successfully helped to create a living, walking, talking, thinking animate doll. The Peri will seem more automaton than human, as their memories of the past will be clouded and hazy at best, so during this time Guardians are encouraged to interact heavily with their charge. Peri are roughly 70 centimeters or 27.5 inches in height, and feel heavier than one would expect as they are made of an exceptionally dense hardwood. However, because of this they'll be very difficult to damage. If fully clothed, a Peri might pass for some kind of smaller humanoid, although there seems to be something different about them...

Requirements to Achieve:
* Complete at least two completed PRPs or ORPS.
* Two 'day-in-the-life' Journal entries about your Guardian, going about his or her day
* Complete the 'Merging Body & Soul' RP with one of the NPCs.
* One Journal-entry, at least 800 words in length, describing how your initial meeting with your Peri went.

Stage 6 - Transit

User ImageUser Image

Your Haltia is now fully-grown! That is, he or she has regained the memories of life, including those of their own death and that of the desire that even death couldn't erase. Also, they've been rewarded with a brand-new, human-sized body! It's still wooden, of course, but it's almost impossible to tell. Their emotions (and attitudes...) are fully apparent, and they can fall in hate, fall in love, even - in a way - reproduce! Of course, there's still their all-important dream...

Requirements to Achieve:
* Complete in at least five PRPs or ORPs.
* Participate IC in at least one Event.
* At least six Journal entries describing the growing awareness of your Haltia, their Desire, ect.
* Complete 5 number of combat quests
* Completing the 'Physical Upgrade' RP with NPC Alain

Stage 7 - ??????

User ImageUser Image
?

This stage is purely conjecture at this point, as no Haltia has ever progressed beyond Transit...
At least, that anyone knows of. It's said that, should a Haltia finally accomplish its final desire,
one way or another, a miracle will take place.

But what happens if it finds another dream?

Haltia Availability

* Note: All Haltia sales are conducted on Page 2. If you're in an impatient mood, you can click over there to see if there are any up for grabs... but we of the Black&White Manor recommend you finish reading this post first.

*Note 2: All Haltia start from the Naught stage, and flatsale previews will be of the Vessel stage; auctions and contests will likely show a preview of the Peri stage.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Flatsales - 12k/12,000 gold
The most common way of getting our hands on a Haltia, flatsales will almost always be prompt-based; any other flatsales (flaffles, speed-flats) will be rare-to-nonexistent, and the change in method will always be announced in advanced.

Flatsales are also very simple. Part I will be the colored previews of the Haltia's Vessel stage, along with a line of flavor text. Part 2 will be the Flatsale info: Start Date, Ending Date, and the summary of the pre-determined Haltia whose soul resides within the Vessel, as well as the the prompt to which applicants will respond.

You may only own one Haltia. Buying with Mules is not allowed.

[Flatsale Part I]

[Flatsale Part II]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Auctions - Starts from 20k/20,000 gold

Auctions will be held... Well, whenever Haseshi feels like it! xD But mostly as part of an Event. Haltia up for Auction can be found on Page 2, Post 3.

Auctions are for special characters which will likely have a role in the plot of Haltia, and who will possess special abilities (for combat or out of it) or attributes (certain physical features, a particular species) which cannot be found in normal flatsales. Sometimes, semi-customs or full customs will be up on the auction block, and there's a possibility of cosplays showing up here as well.

You may win only one (1) auction Haltia per Event, although you can proxy for someone else. Auction Haltia do NOT need a writing sample/application, but activity is still needed in order to keep the Haltia you won.

Once you win an auction, you cannot bid on the auctions at the next Event, although you can still proxy for someone; this is to give others a chance.

Raffles - Price varies

Buy a ticket (or some tickets, or even many tickets) and hope that your number is picked! There are two types of Raffles: Paid Raffles and Free Raffles, both of which can be found at Page 2, Post 4.

*Note: You may claim tickets for others in either type of Raffle.

Paid Raffles will cost anywhere from 10 gold to 100 gold per ticket, and you can buy as many as you want. The Haltia up for grabs will usually be either a pre-determined Haltia or a semi-custom, where the winner will be able to influence the Haltia that results. If you win, you don't pay anything than what you already paid for the tickets.

Free Raffles are, as the name states, free of charge. Anyone who wants one must say so in the thread (see the Raffles post for details), and the winner pays a fee (usually 10k-12k) for the Haltia prize. Haltia raffled off this way are usually pre-determined, leftovers from flatsales or games that went unwon.

[Raffles]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Games and Contests - Free!

Games are exactly what they say they are: Games, at which point one may win a Haltia, a Familiar, or even a semi-custom, custom, or cosplay! Games are found on Page 3, Post 5 and the games and rules may change, so don't forget to read it thoroughly!

Contests also fall under the Games banner, and the Contests offer Haltia as well-- Sometimes with something unexpected thrown in.

Roleplaying In Wünschenhimmel

1. Roleplaying is essential for your Haltia to grow! If you don't RP, your Haltia won't grow; if you do RP, then your Haltia will evolve. It's pretty simple.

2. Don't make a couple of posts and think that it fills your requirements: We'd like you to complete any threads you participate in, and keep yourself from dropping threads unless time or other constraints demand it.

3. Feel free to elaborate on the city; make up your own locations, have Wiffleball In The Park Day. Make it come alive, and it'll be a lot easier to fulfill those RP requirements. Who knows what might come of it... ?

4. Each post should be at least a paragraph: That is, five sentences minimum. If you can managed two healthy paragraphs, wonderful! We're not going to push you to make ten-paragraph posts, but we would like you to put some effort in.

Combat Summary

Combat in the world of Wünschenhimmel is rarely used in the common day; however, for those who have Haltia, or who are Haltia themselves, things are different. They must often traverse the dark woods and forests of their own minds, and as such they are taught to harness their own mystic being as power. Such attacks can sometimes be used outside of Lost Memories as well.

Each Haltia will have three stats:

ATK - Attack, or the power you have attacking someone else
DEF - Defense, or your ability to resist getting hurt by someone else
HP - How much life you have. Each Haltia-stage starts with the same amount of life.

It probably goes without saying, but only Haltia of Stage 5 and up can participate in combat!

Combat itself involves using the Gaia Dice Roller to roll a simple 6-sided die, in order to determine damage done and damage reduced.

Familiar Slots Are Now: CLOSED!

Slots

3. ---

Familiars are small creatures who are carved of the same wood from which Haltia are made; however, Familiars lack souls, and are carved by Alain out of apparent boredom. For a small fee, Alain gives these blank dolls out to anyone who wants one, who must then paint the blank carving themselves; when they take the painted item to Alain, he returns it to them as a living creature!

Most Familiars have the intelligence and mindset of your average household pet. They are made of heavy wood and are very resistant to damage; and, since they don't eat, Familiars make good pets for those who don't have the time to care for a flesh-and-blood beast.

Step One: Request a Familiar using the form below, and send the 1k trade to Mei.
Step Two: We'll PM you the lineart, which you then color in.
Step Three: Complete and post the second form and send the other 1k. The certed product will be posted in the thread!

Familiars are available for those who own a Haltia and those who don't; if you own a Haltia, please let us know if you want the Familiar on your Haltia's cert. There's no limit to the number of Familiars you can own, and if you have a Familiar but no Haltia, just RP the Familiar instead.

If you'd like us to color your Familiar for you, the total price goes up.

Basic
Solid-color or , you give us up to three colors and we'll do our own thing = 6k

Advanced

Designer
More intricate designs, all-over tattoos, more colors than three = 8k

User Image
Familiar Type 1: Vulplin (Fox-Type)
Mischievous, clever, and not a little arrogant, this fox-type Familiars are very independent; like certain housecats, they sometimes disappear for days at a time, and no-one can say for sure where they go.

User Image
Familiar Type 2: Cryer (rhymes with briar) Crow
Cryer Crows are so named because of their odd calls; unlike the croaking of normal crows, Cryer Crows have a high, clear call similar to that of a bugle. They love shiny objects, and often bring them back to their nests.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageFamiliar Type 3: Flotzel
A playful and quick little dragon. With their snake-like body, Flotzels like to sneak into small places and hide. Very curious, they unknown the concept of ‘danger’, which sometimes may put them in problematic situations.

User ImageFamiliar Type 4: Dracodemon
Crafted from a copse of tainted trees within the Western Woods, the Dracodemon has a malevolent nature which is tempered only by the fact that it's not very bright. A rare Familiar, they spend most of their time causing small problems (knocking over vases, ect) and scaring people through windows.

BREEDING

Breeding Slots Are Now: CLOSED!

Slots
1. ---
2. ---
3. ---

For Haltia, breeding is a tricky business, if only because of their clouded pasts: From the time that they're first aware of their new state, a Haltia depends on its guardian to care for it. Therefore, a Haltia must first be self-aware, before it can reproduce at all; thus, breeding can only happen from the 6th stage on.

All-Purpose Breeding Rules

1. Only apply for a Breeding Slot when there's a slot open.

2. Do not apply for a slot when either or both of the Haltias are at a stage prior to 6/Transit.

3. Both Haltia involved in the breeding must be the same level; that is, both must be 6-th level or 7th level, but not one 5 and one 6, or one 6 and one 7.

4. Pairs wishing to breed must have an established romantic relationship within the RP, considered sufficient for breeding by the shop-owners. ( That is, something more than "Hi! I love you! Let's make babies!" )

5. Any offspring generated can be kept by one of the parents (co-owning not allowed) or given to the shop to be auctioned off or given away in an event.

6th-Stage Breeding

Breeding between Transit-stage Haltia is a mystical process, requiring the intervention of both Sivan and Alain. Alain must carve the Naught for the future offspring, and Sivan will conduct a ritual with the would-be parents, during which a single random number will be generated.

1-99 gets a single child.
100 gets twins.

The number generated will determine the number of spirits "called" to the future parents, who will donate a fragment of their life-force to form their child from the called soul.

6th-Stage Breedings start from a unique stage similar to the Vessel stage, then proceeds through the stages as follows:

Stage 1: Soul
Stage 2: Peri
Stage 3: Transit
Stage 4: ??? / Mystery 7th Stage

User ImageUser Image

1. 6th Stage Breeding costs 15k/15,000 gold, which can be split between the owners.

2. Haltia may only breed twice at the Transit stage.

3. Resultant children will resemble their parents, physically, but the melding of two different souls (and their desires) may produce... unexpected results. Let our shop-keepers know if you would like the chance for *something* unexpected to happen...

FAQ

Q: What is Haltia?
A: It's a specially-carved doll made from mystic wood and imbued with a soul who died unfulfilled. Also, a Finnish guardian spirit (or Haltijia) that guards, helps, or protects someone. We named the shop Haltia because... Well, that's what we sell. Although they protect themselves more than anything...

Q: What does Animi Limina means?
A:It means, roughly, "Doors of the Spirit/s. A.K.A., the Sanctum.

Q: So, is this RP-required?
A: If you're asking that, then you somehow managed to miss the repeated statements of 'this is RP-required.' You should get your eyes checked.

Q: Is this going to suck up my time?
A: It shouldn't. Four posts a month isn't that bad, is it?

Q: Can other people see the Haltia?
A: Yep. Although most seem to just think that the Haltia are young children, as if something is causing them to simply glance over the animate dolls.

Q: Can other people enter my Haltia's Sanctum?
A: Only if your Haltia allows it, and depending on their personality (and the person) they might not.

Q: Is there a limit on what species (vampire, elf, god) my Guardian can be?
A: Not really, so long as you don't godmode, auto-anything, puppet other peoples' characters... The basics. Consider the city like Gaia: All kinds of peoples hang out. However, keep the focus on your Haltia and not on your Guardian: If they can wave their hand and solve the problem, they're too powerful.

Q: Can we do a pet trade?
A: It depends. PM the mule with your offer and we'll talk. <3

Q: Want to affiliate?
