Up until just over 100 years ago, Staticats were a rare sort of beast. They ran over seas and land, chasing storm fronts in order to feed. Low Valence Staticats were often left behind and starved and life was very hard for them. Clans were tight knit families who travelled together, fought together and died together.
Then a human named Thomas Edison switched on the very first large scale electrical circuit in 1890. This took place in Manhattan, and Staticats know this time as "The Great Settling" - Staticats from all over the world came to the tiny island to feed on this new source of food. The island became overcrowded, and as the humans moved outwards with their power-grid so too did the Staticats. Many clans fought and died to protect their families and hold on to permanent land. Thousands of cats died in the first few years as the humans expanded across New York State and into Southern Ontario and further.
Once enough cities had electricity, the clans separated to eke out their own land, many still holding old grudges. Now, once again, the clans are getting so large that they are clashing at the edges of cities once separated by miles of farmland.
The Staticats of this shop live in the city of Steeltown - parts of which are as old as electrical circuits, and parts of which are very new. The new and the old do not see eye to eye - and due to expansion, where there were once 7 set clans, each with well-defined lands, there are now 7 muddled clans living in and amongst each other, and only a tenuous peace treaty written many years ago keep the clans from battling until they are all dead. Do you stand for peace or war? Do you live for love or justice? It is up to you to decide!

Baby (Kittenspark): A Staticat starts out life in a thunderstorm generated by the great attraction of its parents. First, they are a tiny balls of light and cat fur trapped in its mother's coat - cat fur is one of the most static-bound materials in all of existence after all!

Child (Statikitten): Eventually they gather coherence, and they drop from their mother's coat. They are still very young, but they are beginning to develop their personality. They rely on their parents for guidence and nourishment, being too young to develop a strong enough electric field to feed by themselves.

Youth: As they learn and grow and change, their colors begin to develop, showing all other staticats what sort of being they will be.

Adult: Once they have learned enough and are set enough in their ways, they will hit their adult size. They will then be able to generate electric fields strong enough to breed during thunderstorms, and will seek out territory of their own within their clan's city.
Elder: Not attainable at this time - An elder Staticat rules over his city-clan. He is often the largest and most venerable of staticats - and also generate breeding storm energy far faster than usual. He has breeding rights with the females of his tribe (a female elder would have the same privilege with the males of her tribe), but usually respects pairs who wish to remain together despite lack of breeding energy. His Valence is usually neutral in color, though this is not a hard rule.
SUBTYPES
Like life, not everything in a breeding is neat and clean. Often, due to the parent's whirlwind sucking things into the sky, some other material can get picked up in the mother's fur, given it can have a static charge. This drastically changes the look of the Staticat who has a tainted Kittenspark.Common Materials: Feathers, Plastic
Uncommon Materials: Wool, Styrofoam, Glass
Rare Materials: Amber, Silk, Metal
If one of the Parents is a subtype, there is a very high chance of their Kittens being that subtype as well (about 1 in 2). In very large breedings (4+), it can also happen spontaneously - the chances of which are based on the rarity of the materials.

New Partner: 2-4 Kittens.
Same Partner: 3-5 Kittens.
Lifemate (special): 4-6 Kittens
Elder, New Partner - 3-5 Kittens
Elder, Same Partner: 4-6 Kittens
Elder, Lifemate: 5-7 Kittens
A Staticat may breed after it has been involved in at least two multiple post RPs with or about being in love with their mate-to-be. These two threads do not necessarily have to involve the mate both times (in one case, you may simply be talking about the situation with your friends). Both Staticats in a pairing must meet this requirement - meaning as few as two RPs, but possibly more.
Staticats can only breed male-to-female. This has everything to do with the nature of electricity, and nothing to do with being against homosexual Staticats. Homosexual Staticats who want kittens must breed with someone of the other gender (though their 'breeding energy' may be generated by RPs with someone who is not the other parent in this case).
A Staticat, whether male or female cannot mate for a given period of time after having a litter.
Staticats do not always mate for life, but many do stay with the same partner for several litters. There is a bonus to breeding with the same partner, as it allows a Staticat to have more kittens.
Those owners who DO wish to Lifebond their pets understand that those pets will be unable to breed with ANY OTHER PET - which includes situations where the other RPer leaves, or the character dies. You will get more kittens this way, but it may be detrimental if your partner isn't going to remain in the shop. Pick your Lifemates carefully for this reason.
Staticats will not breed with close relations - you must be at least 4 generations away from a pair of siblings who have the same mother or father.

Guild is Now Open!
This will be a Roleplay-required pet. If you want it to mature you must RP it!
The requirements for growth are not overwhelming, though!
Kittenspark ~> Statikitten = 1 week of waiting (no RP required)
Statikitten ~> Youth = Set up Journal profile + participate in 2 multipost RPs with at least one other player + 1 month + fill out a youth request form.
Youth ~> Adult = Participate in 3 (new) multipost RPs with at least one other player + 1 month + fill out a adult request form.
Adult ~> Elder = Is a heavy RP option, and only given out during events.
You can RP your pet as anything you like, with any amount of normalness, psychosis, or anything else you can dream up! As you RP, I or another manager will take note of where you are taking your pet, and during each growth, give them a set Valence based on what we think you're trying to do with them.
Keep in mind that Valance has nothing to do with the quality of character, nor is ANY Valance negative or positive. It has to do with one thing, and one thing only - the amount of ENERGY your character actively puts out.
This energy can be one of three things:
Physical: Is your Staticat physically active? Do they like to dance or run or wrestle? Do they like to watch the world go by, or take long naps, or spend most of their day eating? Are they dreamers or do they take things into their own paws?
Emotional: What is the most common state of your cat's emotional qualities? Are they contented and laid back? Do they suffer from mood swings? Are they anxious or depressed (or prone to one over the other)? Do they have empathy for others, or are they self centered?
Spiritual: What is your cat's philosophy on life? Do they meditate to gather or dispel their energy? Are they passive towards their fate, or are they the type who refuses to let a single thing slip from their control?
Keep in mind that none of these things are positive or negative, and you can roleplay your pet however you choose. If you find that your pet is going through a life change after hitting adult stage, you may submit a request for Valence alteration. It must be a significant event, however. One good day's worth of thought will not create any change in coloration.
Statikittens may change valence from day to day, so even though their art may be of a given color it is not expected that a child would remain a single valence for very long. MOST Statikittens tend towards slightly higher valences, due to their rapid growth and extreme curiosity about the world. You may freely describe your Statikitten's color as being something other than the artwork as you please.
When a Statikitten becomes a youth, their color changes may vary from time to time, but will be more stable than a child's. Because they are still impressionable, and learning their place in the clan, they will often let their Valences head towards those they are in proximity to. So if a normally orangish youth goes out on the town with her blue and green friends, when she comes home for the night, she might actually be more yellowish or green in color than she would normally be. This is not a permanent effect - just a roleplay item you might want to include. Keep in mind, though, that we'll be watching for things like this to help us pick the right shade for her adult Valence!
When a youth finally settles to their adult form, their Valance has gotten to a more permanent level. They are far less prone to change, and due to being more resistant to peer pressure, less likely to change, even if many of their higher or lower valenced friends are nearby. the only thing that may change an adult's Valance is a major life changing event - any sort of loss or gain on a permanent level (such as becoming a parent, becoming an elder, having a loved one die, being forced from your city-clan, etc).
An adult may also choose to walk "the path" - which is an attempt to control one's Valence in such a way as to gain spiritual enlightenment. "The Path" is not for all Staticats, and many who attempt to walk it often give up.

This is information about the world of the Staticats - things that a Staticat would be taught from a young age.
VALENCE
Where every Staticat has unique markings which makes them easy to tell apart, no Staticat has set COLORS until they reach adult stage (and even then, it may change if a large life event occurs).
A Staticat is made up of electrical energy, and as such, their colors vary based on how "excited" they tend to be. Staticats refer to these "color settings" as Valences. Staticats of a given Valence do not have a set personality, per se, but they have a fairly set activity level/emotional level.
Infra - The "lowest" valence, a staticat who is in the Infra-red spectrum seems to be predominantly a dark brownish-red to another Staticat's eyes. They are very inactive cats, those of higher valences find Infras lazy and often apathetic. This isn't always true - a cat who has achieved a given level of meditative status may have let their valence sink very low, those who are extremely content with life, or those who are very easily tired may also end up with this coloring. On the negative side, it is hard for a cat with this coloring to drag themselves to action, possibly until long after disaster has struck. A cat who is intensely and extremely depressed may also sink to this valence.
Red - A low, but far more common valence than the Infras, Reds are more active, though, they too, often come off as lazy or bored with most situations. They make amazing friends since they are excellent listeners. It is hard to motivate a Red, but they are not so set in their rut that they refuse to avoid disaster. On the negative side of things, Reds may succumb to depression or a sort of chronic exhaustion - they need close friends to help them keep their chins up!
Orange - The lowest of the middle Valences, Oranges are more common than Reds. They are stoic, peaceful souls, who can be riled to action when needs be. Their more common place is keeping their nose to the grinding stone, working hard and well, and taking pleasure in the simple things of life. They can be prone to small moments of sadness, and are very empathic. Some might say they are the most well-adjusted staticats. Of course, they're all Oranges who say that!
Yellow - The middle-low Valence - most kittensparks start out at this Valence, and most Staticats who live normal, uneventful lives tend to end up here as well. This is not a bad place to be - low stress but a goodly amount of activity. This doesn't mean that all Yellows are positive cats, in fact a good many of them often tend to complain that their lives are boring. They tend to want more out of life, but seem to avoid achieving it due to not having enough time on their paws. They make good friends who give as much as they take, and a good sounding board for those of the extreme Valences who need guidance.
Green - The middle-high Valence, Greens are active creatures. They tend to be more excitable than Yellows - and can often be the life of the party. They understand their limits, though and are not prone to getting super-stressed out about things. They do tend to panic when moments become overwhelming. They may react in a few different ways, putting their energy to good use, or letting it crumble their self-esteem. Greens have a goodly rate of bouncing back, though, their energy is just high enough to keep them from depression. Some Greens do tend to worry quite a bit - but it doesn't run their life.
Blue - The highest of the middle Valences, Blues seem quite hyper. they often jump to conclusions and can be very creative. Pranksters, playful and always seeming to want someone to chase them, Blues can work on the nerves of those of lower valences. Blues are prone to worrying, and can be slightly paranoid at times. they can also have swift mood changes, first angry, then crying and upset, then utterly offended. They just have so much energy that it often leaks out in emotional ways! they can be quite zealous and once a blue starts something they won't stop until it is done!
Purple - A Very high Valance. Purples are anxious creatures who have let their huge amounts of energy force them into embarrassing habits. Purples can be quite moody and often snap at those around them. They can also become quite manic, their energy forcing them to continuously act out everything they think and feel. Purples can become overwhelmed with anxiety, and nearly all of them worry constantly about the future. It isn't all negative, however - many Purples are remarkably bright and live in a very aesthetic and pleasing way. They control every facet of their lives and they have the energy to live up to that expectation! They are fast learners, utter perfectionists, and hopelessly fanatical about their favorite topics.
Ultra-violet - The Highest Valence a Staticat can achieve. Few Staticats would call it an "achievement", though. The Ultras are so driven, and so overcome by their own emotions that they have "gone past" what others might call empathy. They are often cruel, and cold, sometimes aware of it (and taking great pride in it), but oftentimes confused by how others react to their heartless words. They are not primordial evil, though. Some Cats who intentionally raise their valence through meditation may simply do so to try and overcome normal staticat limits, so that they can control their circumstances by avoiding rest. Ultras tend to be charismatic when they want to be - they often pick up followers of the higher Valences who wish to learn the same amount of control their leader seems to have over his circumstances.
LOVE
When a pair of Staticats fall in love, they begin to generate large amounts of what is known as "breeding energy". This matter is generally noticeable to any Staticat who sees them while they are courting. When the time comes that they can no longer control their energy, a thunderstorm forms, and the two begin to circle each other, their energy lifting them right into the air. The female circles clockwise and the male counter-clockwise - and each time they meet, they rub against each other, sending huge sparks of lightning into the air! Sometimes, they spin so much that they draw the air in with them in their dance, creating massive tornadoes!
The electricity isn't all lost in thunder strikes, however! The most important parts are kept in the mother's fur - a static charge that develops into Kittensparks!
What color the Kittensparks will be depends on their parents Valence. Kittensparks tend to be of a Valence directly between their parents. So if their father was a red, and their mother, a yellow, most of their Kittensparks will be Orange in color (with perhaps a chance of having a few come closer to their mother or father. On a broader term if an Infra and a Ultra mated (rare though that would be) more of their Kittensparks would be a yellowish-green color, with a rare chance of some being of a slightly higher or lower Valence.
DAILY LIVING
An Adult Staticat must consume at least 10000 Volts of Energy each week, and generally does so in a single "hunt" if they can. Since this is more than enough energy to kill a human several times over (if consumed all at once!), human-made electrical circuits are generally not powerful enough to deliver this sort of charge in a single access. Thus a Staticat must spend a good deal of time foraging lightly when they hunt. Staticats might wander through a human dwelling, licking sockets, or sucking excess energy from appliances. They are generally very careful to limit what they take - blown fuses mean an end to their feast! For this reason, a Staticat teaches their kittens to feed lightly, and to leave a circuit at the first sign of overheating.
Humans cannot see Staticats, though Staticats can see humans. A human might become slightly aware that a Staticat is nearby if they come in physical contact with the 'cat, which will give them a static shock, or make their hair on their body stand on end. Most Staticats don't think much of humans (much like most humans don't think much of trees). They certainly don't understand much about human life, other than the things they do provide indirect nourishment.
Staticats can pass through any conductive or non-dense substance, including glass, metal, and wood and many types of plastic. This means that they don't have to rely on humans to gain access to indoor areas.
THE PATH - and common religion
The Path is a form of religion praticed by some Staticats. No one is sure where it came from, or which clan practiced it first, but it falls along similar lines to what humans call Tantric meditation (from the Hindu Tantra). The basic premise is that the world is made of pure energy, and that a Staticat can learn to align its energy with the world through meditation, ritual and worship of the 'Great Storm' - which is the 'understood' primal force of the universe.
Cats may undertake the path for a number of reasons, usually to give themselves control over their life and others (the case of those heading for Ultra-colors), or to learn to let go of all bonds and simply 'be' (the case for those heading for Infra-colors) - others may do it simply to experience emotions or states that they have not experienced since their youth, or to revitalize themselves in their old age, or just for something interesting to do.
Active practice is not enforced or even encouraged between children and their parents, even if both parents practice. It is thought to be too difficult for a child to really understand - though there are some rare children who do enjoy the long set meditations and rituals.
Even though most cats do not actively practice walking the Path, very few cats deny its usage, or the 'truth' of the Great Storm. The Great Storm has no personality nor does it try to enforce anything upon the lives of Staticats. It simply IS, and it is thought to be the place where all storms are born from. Thus, being born of storms themselves, Staticats are uniquely connected to the universe and the primal force of nature.
Staticats believe that death is the end and that there is no afterlife, per se - but most do believe that their energy is reclaimed by the Great Storm and that one day they may be reborn as part of a Kittenspark. The Great Storm is ultimately chaotic, though and does not favor those who live their lives in ANY sort of special way - so (most) Staticats do not live in fear of divine consequence. As any sort of intelligent being, some cats do feel that certain actions or traditions are lucky, and others are unlucky. It's really up to the individual to count or discount them as bunk.
ANATOMY
To another Staticat, Staticats are solid objects. Their claws and teeth, likewise, pose a threat. The reason why a Staticat is feline shaped is due to the evolution of the species - not only did they need to be lightning quick when chasing down sparks in storms, but also due to the nature of their weak point.
As humans, a Staticat's thought center is his head. When a Kittenspark finally gathers enough material from his mother's coat to drop from it, his body forms about the spark - his head appearing right in the middle. Like a Tesla coil, his ear tufts have a connective spark that appears above his head.
The connective spark is also known as a "lifespark" - and with good reason. Should a Staticat ever be swatted on the head while his ears are pointed forward, he will lose consciousness. This is why all Staticats, when threatened, fold their ears backward immediately. Their spark becomes hidden in their neck - relatively safe during a fight.
That is the other reason why Staticats resemble felines - felines are naturally designed to deliver a killing blow to the neck or throat.

STEELTOWN
Steeltown is the large city that the Staticats of this shop currently live in. It will expand outwards if things get too cramped. As it is, well over 100 Staticats could live in this area based on its size.
Once Steeltown was a pinnacle of industry. It had several major steel foundries and factories. Several Staticat clans moved into the area and since the electrical sources were so plentiful they opted to declare a truce among each other. Since then, the town has fallen on hard times. One by one, the factories have gone still. Humans have moved away but none have moved in to take their place.
It is a time of change, and the Staticats of Steeltown must adapt to survive!
Base Locations: Your Staticat may be from any of these places.

Green Lands: This area is the older part of town. Victorian style houses (with old wiring) are the main fare. This area is also where the main university and hospital is, and thus, many Staticats join to feast there. Due to the age of the area and the length of time that it has had electricity, many who live there are of the older generations. They do not have much in the eyes of younger cats (who don't have the patience needed to feed from such unreliable sources), and it would be strange for the wilder cats to intentionally live in this area.
The Grid: The spawling metropolis. 50 years ago, the houses were new, the corner stores full of friendly faces, small businesses found a home, and those strong Staticats fed well and heartily here. But now with the Steel mill having been shut down, and much of the industrial sector being relocated, this once beautiful land of pretty little houses has become barren and run down. Life is hard here. Though there is room to roam, sources of eletricity are few. Those who remain here can only hope that the humans will return one day.
The Stacks: This is the Downtown area of the city - there are many tall buildings here, and Staticats who live here are often in close quarters. Due to this, there are many squabbles, even among family members. The cats who live here are generally too weak nor not determined enough to move elsewhere where they would have more range and more freedom to feed where they like.
Dark Ranges: This is the industrial sector. Though many of the largest factories have been shut down, this sector is still a good feeding ground for those willing to fight over it. The most ferocious and dangerous Staticats live here, fighting for the best sources of energy that do not require a gentle touch to draw on. A cat can feed in this land in a single night if he wishes - he just has to do it without being noticed, or by fighting his way to the sources.
Long Lake: This Lake streaches for hundreds of miles - but the very southern and Western-most corner is in Steeltown. While no Staticat lives on the water, many do enjoy dancing and playing on top of the waves when storms are brewing!
Clifftop: Most of Steeltown is at the level of Long Lake, but eventually it expanded so much that the humans settled at the top of the Cliffs that surround the city to the south and west. Where The Grid is urban in nature having nearly as many stores as houses, the Clifftop is much more relaxed with far more houses than stores, and is much more spread out. Cats who live here live the good life - and defend it fiercely. Going "up the mountain" is inviting danger. But some do travel between the upper and lower halves of the city.

Due to the nature of Steel Town, how it grew and how the clans there eventually called truces, there are 7 clans that live in the immediate and surrounding area - their territories are not hard and fast, and due to the tenuous peace treaties, some clans are allowed quite a wide range.
Clan Greyn: One of the older clans - members of this clan live in the oldest parts of the Grid, generally to the south of and in The Stacks. They are generally permitted to wander anywhere they like in The Grid, The Stacks and most parts of The Green Lands.
Clan Derth: An evolution of an old clan, the elder of this clan is quite young as elders go and as such has no qualms about breaking peace when he finds trespassers in the Dark Reaches. Because of the lack of respect he shows to the old ways, members of his clan are generally unwelcome everywhere else.
Clan Flimflam: One of the oldest clans on the top of the mountain. They live on the western part of the map, and are one of the very few clans that are tolerated in most of the rest of the map.
Clan Mac: The OLDEST Clan in the area. Once strong and fierce, most members are now beyond child bearing age, their elder is downright VENERABLE - he actually remembers the time of the Great Settling. They are based in the Green Lands, and the Eastern area near the Stacks. Members of this clan do not range far from home, not because they can't but due to old fears and mistrust of other clans.
Clan Caster: A newer clan living on top of the mountain. They are protective of their own and their land, and rarely leave their area of the east and central area of the Clifftops.
Lake Walkers: The ragtag semi-clan that lives north of The Stacks. No one knows if they have an Elder. No one knows where the heck they came from. Few cats pay them any heed because they live in the dirt-poorest parts of town, and generally keep to themselves.
Clan Crick: The next closest clan who lives on the other side of the Dark Ranges. Those who make the trip through the ranges don't often want to go back. Estranged members of this clan can be found almost everywhere at lake level.
***
Due to the nature of the sheer SIZE of Clans, while Clan leaders may auctioned off, forming a new clan would require an abnormal amount of support. At this time it's not an option for players.

1. Gaia TOS is law.
2. IC and OOC situations need to STAY SEPERATE. I don't give a crap what issues you might have with someone suddenly, but don't drag IC drama into OOC, and don't even think about dragging your OOC nonsense into an IC situation.
3. Anyone, at any time, may ask any question they like. Even if they don't understand to avoid netspeak or have wretched grammar. Thread goers MUST be gentle and courteous in their answers, even if the answer is obvious.
4. Please avoid netspeak and leet-speek.
5. Avoid drama. If you have an issue of any kind, PM it to SilverLynx. I promise to treat you with courtesy and will NEVER drag drama into the thread where you can't defend yourself.
6. Mini-modding is NOT allowed. SilverLynx can and will handle disruptive situations, she's had a huge amount of experience at it.
7. Treat everyone with respect, no matter how out of place they seem. EVERYONE can be a potential owner, even "netspeak Sally" if she learns to RP.
8. We don't promise pets to ANYONE. Not only does this mean that you can't lay claim to pets up for grabs, but that you should also understand that sucking up won't guarantee you anything, either. Pets go to those who win contests/flatsales/raffles as per the rules of each event.
9. Interesting characters are a plus. I want you to have characters that have flaws, but also ones that have talents. Good points and bad. The more interesting, the better.
10. Contest rule: During the progress of a contest, if you start thinking you might not win, bringing up your worries in the thread over and over again will simply get them confirmed. It brings everyone down to have someone agonizing over their chances. If you refuse to stop doing it, you may end up being removed from the contest. This is just to keep things fun for others.
11. Have fun! heart

Wanna see if there's anything up for grabs? Check out page 2!
You can get a Staticat through one of several ways.
Flatsale: These will usually be speed flatsales. There may also be prompt-responses to slow down the flatsales for those who have really poor connection to the internet. Another option would be a Flaffle, where everyone gets one free ticket, but the winners still have to pay the flatsale price.
Breedings: Parents may each take a kitten for themselves, and any that are left over are to be gifted to any other player (with at least one going to a new player). If you don't know any new players, the shop will find someone to give it to! Bred Kittens can't be sold, so this may be a great opportunity for someone who is down on their luck to get a kitten.
Kiriban: Every 100 pages, a Kiriban drawing will take place. First a page in the past 100 pages is chosen, then the post on that page is chosen. Staff cannot be the winner, but an owner who has multiple cats can win. If you win a Kiriban, you'll get a PM from the mule telling you that you won.
Auction: This will happen from time to time for more exquisitely detailed or rare forms of Staticat. Bid to win. There is always a 5 minute snipe guard.
Raffle: Buy tickets to enter. The more you buy the better your chances!
Contests/Events: These are special ways to win. You may have to do something creative (like draw a picture or write a poem), or participate in a multi-player RP or some sort of game or something else. Events will be announced well ahead of time and generally take place in another thread.
Dice Game: From time to time, a Dice game will be announced, and a Staticat placed on the block to win. The rules here are very specific, you can usually only roll a certain amount of times a day, and you must always chat or state random facts (you can't just post an emoticon or type one word.) Mules are forbidden from Dice games (unless they are doing the rolling for you, and make it clear that they are) - and if you are caught you will lose your cats.
???: There may also be other ways to win a cat. So don't give up!
Kittypoints
Kittypoints have no baring in-character, but are a reward for participating in various events usually as a bumper, but also occasionally for random acts of kindness as well!
Each is worth 1k and can be used for anything, including parts of auctions, flatsale purchases, breedings, raffles, and anything else that might come up!
What you can do* with Kittypoints:
5 - Gives you the ability to get first pick of the litter on Flatsales.
20 - Allows you to reserve a breeding slot before they open.
50 - Custom!
* You can also give them away, or use them to purchase things for others as you wish. Note that as people come up with things to do with KP this list will expand.
Current Point Holders:
Kitty Sprightt - 8
Lissome Llia - 12
Saiyajin-Neko - 3
Flying Dicks - 2
Xxsky_goddessxX - 3
MithaeCrystalRose - 1
