שׁחט ••• the leviathan +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Genesis 1:21: "God created the great sea monsters - Taninim."
"According to legend this refers to the Leviathan and its mate. God created a male and female Leviathan, then killed the female and salted it for the righteous, for if the Leviathans were to procreate, the world could not stand before them."
The Leviathan is a creature most often found in the Bible. He is portrayed as a massive, powerful sea monster, most usually a serpent (though sometimes a beast), that could slay a man with the bat of an eye. Leviathan was the measure of all things in the sea- he was the beginning and the end, and so great was his power that he could churn the oceans and destroy any being who crossed his ire. It is said that his entire body could even wrap around the Earth.
In many cases, he is spoken of as a terrible thing. The Leviathan was a fearsome, evil beast. He was chaotic, he was violent, he was evil- no sailor went a minute without knowing his wrath, no sea creature went without understanding that he, the biggest and strongest of all ocean beasts, was their king. At the end of days, God was supposed to slay the beast and prepare him for the righteous to eat.
Isaiah 27:1: "In that day the Lord with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that is in the sea."
Job 41: 1-3 "Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? Or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
Canst thou put an hook into his nose? Or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
Will he make many supplications unto thee? Will he speak soft words unto thee?"
