User ImageA few Summers ago, after I had been browsing through the Breedables and Changlings threads, I became inspired to make a creation of my own that I could nurse and develop. I had little knowledge of what I was getting myself into, but nevertheless, became absorbed and devoted to it.

I intend to start my thread over and work my Breedables thread properly, the way it should have been done in the first place, had I had the presence of mind to be patient in my preparations.

There are many things I have to complete before opening the shop with the intent to solely keep it up rather than working the thread while it is constantly under construction. This thread is dedicated to setting goals and keeping me on task while also being a place for others to keep me motivated or give suggestions.

Please feel free to let your opinions be known. Whether you think you might help or not makes no difference to me. Encouragement is plenty for me. It's the thought that counts after all.

NOTICE:
Giveaway coming soon! I have finished fleshing out everything I feel I need to give away some of my adorable Titanides. Come hang around for a chance at getting one yourself!

HIRING:
I'm looking for colorists, and maybe some line artists. I haven't got a template up for you to color, but I'd like to see some sample of your art. Just sell me on your talents!
Check out the thread! link

User ImageThe Expedition: Themis is Discovered

Back when space exploration was booming, and scientific discovery was important, an exploration vessel called the Ringmaster, was headed by an enthusiastic captain, Cirocco Jones, and her crew. Their main objective was to learn more about Saturn's many moons, and learn if they are habitable for colonization. As the ship approached Saturn, something strange appeared in their sights. Something orbiting Saturn appeared to be of intelligent design. The closer to it they got the more the team became convinced that an alien species must have existed in order to have left it behind.

The importance of discovering an alien race was exciting for the crew, and they got closer and closer to examine and learn all they could from the outside before trying to make contact. But before they knew what was happening to them, the alien artifact sprouted a large tentacle and swallowed up the whole ship and its crew. As all this happened, Captain Jones sent out a distress call to the Earth asking for help, as well as news of their findings.

Adventure: The Story of Captain Jones and Crew

Despite their thoughts of impending doom, the crew did not die. They were held in a sort of stasis like state for a very long time. It was pitch black, and they lost all their senses; left with their thoughts, and time. After a time they became aware of the earth around them and began digging. They were excreted onto the surface of the inside rim. It was as if they were hatching out of a cocoon or being born again.

Together they explored many things, mostly by accident. Chief among those discoveries were the land, creatures, and themselves. They discovered the centaur (Titanides) and angelic creatures that lived there, and the changes that had taken place within themselves. From the Titanides they learned that what they were living in was called Gaea and that Gaea was an all powerful god. It was this god that changed each of them in special ways - giving them a language of one of the natives, or even changing their physical bodies. The captain was able to speak the sing-song like language of the Titanides. One of the crew members had been turned into an Angel, and yet another had been able to talk to the Blimps.

As a captain with a mission of her own, she felt a duty to find this god. This was the only way she could think of to fulfill her duties to the Earth. She decided that whoever was in charge must be able to contact the Earth somehow, or else help them find a way back, as her ship had been destroyed. The center hub where they believed Gaea would be herself.

They journeyed for many decarevs through many hardships. The rim itself has many obstacles to overcome because of the hostile creatures that live there. From the rim they traveled to the mammoth cables that hold the rim to the hub. The climb was steep and eventually so steep it was vertical. From the cable they reached the spoke valve, and beyond that they traveled through the vast forests inside the spoke.

Once they finally arrived at the hub, they met Gaea and demanded answers. Why had she assaulted them so? Why had she changed their bodies? Her behavior was offensive! Frankly Captain Jones needed reasons why she should not to tell the rescue ships to launch a full on attack!

Gaea explained. She had no choice in the matter of assaulting their ship. She described her physiology to them. Gaea is not the body they see - she is not the captain of this large ship. In fact Gaea is the entire thing. Thus, the the creature they were seeing was not the container for her brain; she has twelve brains in her rim and one in her hub. Each section of her rim has one brain in it. She continued to explain that in her old age those brains have become more and more independent - or as others see it - insane. She has little control over several of her brains. As a result much of her land is desolate and has little to no life. One of her non-loyal brains, Oceanus, decided to anger her by swallowing up the ship which Gaea was eager to make contact with.

Throughout her journey Cirocco made friends with the Titanides and Angels. She learned of their uncontrollable hate for one another. It saddened her, and baffled many Titanides that they were always making war. Cirocco was moved enough to bring it up with Gaea. Gaea was willing to listen to requests but only if they were to bargain with each other. Gaea needed someone who was willing to take certain "gifts" so as to help her maintain her unruly lands in the rim, and be the mouth of the god. Cirocco agreed to her terms: If Gaea would remove the warring tendency in the Titanides and Angels, she would help.

When it was time for Gaea to make the changes inside Cirocco's body, she gave her the ability to whistle the language of the Blimps, the ability to call forth weather, and immunity to travel through unruly regions without harm. Unknowingly to her, Cirocco was also given the responsibility of keeping up the population of Titanides. In order to keep control over Cirocco, Gaea gave her the only means for Titanides to reproduce. Because of this many of the locals view her as a sort of wizard, and thus she was nicknamed.

As Cirocco returned to the rim, she discovered that Earth had sent a rescue ship. This time Gaea was able to pick it up much more gently. Cirocco quit her position with NASA and officially became the Wizard of Gaea. She discussed what had happened with this new rescue team, that Gaea was a peaceful alien, and that she wished to establish transports with Earth. Thus colonization and tourism of Gaea began.

Present: Here and Now

All over the news, on televisions everywhere, the story of the discovery of the first sentient aliens ever to be discovered, grew more widely spread. First it was only scientists that visited Gaea, on missions of science. Then rich folk began buying private tickets into space to have their expensive vacations there. After a while space flights became more popular and within the commoners budget and more and more people came to Gaea. As more people came to visit, Gaea grew tired of listening to their begging and pleading. Everyone knew she had powers far more grand than anything on Earth. She set an ultimatum, if anyone was to get a cure, they would have to gain her interest, and she would only listen to the stories of a hero. After a time she began to send out ambassadors to Earth to select Earthlings that desired a cure.

Gaea would fund a trip to visit if they were willing to gamble their life on the chance of becoming a hero and Gaea listening to their story. Today, you can sill find Gaean embassies in major cities in countries all around the world. You can talk to a Titanide ambassador and send in your application to get yourself a cure for cancer, or to regrow a limb.

Titanides

Habitat
Titanides live in small dwellings either in the trees or on the land. Land based dwellings are usually tent-like with designs painted on the outside. You could never map out a Titanide village because it is always changing. A new tent will be erected and to get around it they will make new paths and trample the plants living there to create new roads. Because of this it is difficult to ask for directions. Oftentimes it is more effective to be shown the way.

Behavior
Titanides are a very beautiful and peaceful race. Even their voices are beautiful. Their language is like singing and they are a very musical race. They never have to sleep, except as newborns, and often create beautiful works of art as a result. Instead of sleep a Titanide will have times of rest when he or she sits or lays down and either chats quietly with a friend or crafts something. A Titanide was once quoted as saying, "If it's not worth making beautiful, it's not worth making." They strive to adorn everything with lovely things - always putting fresh wreaths of flowers in their hair, decorating their tents, or carving goods.
Unlike humans Titanides never show anger for one another. Their emotions are just as beautiful as themselves. The only negative emotion a Titanide feels is that of sadness when he or she learns that they cannot have a child until the next Purple Carnival, for Titanides are extremely fond of having children, and always desire to create.

Angels

Appearance
The wingspan of an Angel ranges from about 22 feet to 30 feet. Their bodies are incredibly similar to humans but are about the size of children, and have zero body fat to decrease weight constraints. Instead of regular feet, they have elongated toes that end in talons. Their wings come out from their center of gravity, at just above the hips. When perched on a branch the tops of the wings stick out above their heads, and pass below their feet. The outsides of their arms and legs have rows of feathers on them in order to help be more aerodynamic in flight. Males life half as long as females, and are smaller.

Habitat
Angels always live in the spokes, but on occasion come out of the spoke to fly around in the rim for one reason or another. They may be helping a tourist falling from the hub or some other non-lengthy task.
Inside of the spokes are horizontal forests. These forests grow from an organic surface that covers the inside of the spokes. During the Winter inside the spokes, Angels can carve out a hole in the flesh and live of of the milk of Gaea while they wait out the awful weather. Other than in Winter time the Angels stay inside the woods.

Behavior
Angels are solitary creatures. Much like birds of prey on Earth, Angels do not hunt in packs, and they do not socialize or tolerate one another much. An Angel can be seen gliding at a relative distance from another Angel for a few minutes at a time, but not much more. Angels do not even come together for reproduction. However, even just after birth, an Angel knows what it means to be part of a clan. There's an aspect of pride and duty.

History
War - Before the time of the Wizard, Angels and Titanides were overcome with a prejudice for each other that was programmed into them by Gaea as a means for entertainment. Every time the spokes would open, Angels would pour out and attack any Titanide in sight. Their disgust for them was so strong that they would go into battle without thought for their own lives.
Helping Hands - After Gaea began to take requests for cures, Angels would charitably help those where tossed out of the hub, and help them to their feet at the rim, below. Although they are mainly solitary creatures, Angels will occasionally interact with others.
Fat Fred - Fat Fred is an Angel who is very well known as one who helps pilgrims during their plummet from the hub through the spoke and to the rim. He is known for lusting after human women because of their body fat. He simply cannot get enough of their shape and has asks for favors in return for his helping them down to the rim.

User ImageGaea

She has many forms. Her largest is the one that can be seen from space - the six pointed, toroidal (doughnut shaped) body. She is about 800 miles at her widest. There's a hub in the center with six spokes coming from it holding the outside rim from exploding apart. Between each spoke on the rim is a large window that lets sunlight come into the rim for the creatures that live inside her. On the outside of the rim are solar panels used to collect sunlight and warmth. On the inside, there are areas of constant sunlight and areas of constant darkness. Between each of those are areas of twilight. The spokes are habitable because they are hollow. Out of those hollow spokes come gigantic cables that help keep Gaea's large body in one piece.

Gaea's other forms are generally small creatures that live within her hub. She uses these creatures, usually humanoid, to communicate with those living within her. This form is the one that everyone make a pilgrimage to, so that they may plead for whatever it is they desire from her. Her human form changes from time to time, but often takes the shape of an actress of a movie she particularly enjoyed. She frequently uses the form of Marylin Monroe.

User ImageWizard/Demon

Once the captain of the DSV Ringmaster spaceship, Cirocco Jones made her pilgrimage to Gaea's hub and requested some governmental changes be made. At the time the Angels and Titanides had an uncontrollable hate for one another, and Cirocco, having befriended many of them wished for their warring to end. Gaea's response was to give her what she wanted, but at a price. Gaea made it so that Cirocco was the only means that the Titanides had for reproduction. A Titanide egg will only become fertilized once it has been coated in her own saliva. That means that once she dies, so will the race of Titanides. In addition, Gaea needed someone to help gain control of her growing insanity. In order to help Gaea with her problem, Gaea gave Cirroco permission to petition her brains on the outter rim, and to call her to change the weather and other great events. Because of these responsibilities, many view her as having magical powers and thus dubbed her the Wizard of Gaea.

Cirocco is often out on a mission from Gaea in order to help restore Gaea when something has gone wrong, or acting as the voice of Gaea when her brains aren't behaving as they should. When she is not on one of her missions, she can be seen in her house called The Melody in the mountains of Rhea. Here she documents, in great scrolls, the life she has witnessed throughout her life inside Gaea.

User ImageDulcimer (Hypomixolydian Trio) Cantata

Or Dulcimer, for short, is the ambassador sent to Earth to sort out all the applications from the people wanting to visit Gaea and request a cure. Because she is frequently bombarded by the same questions, and pleas over and over she has become frustrated with the humans in general and regrets being chosen by Gaea to be the ambassador on Earth.

Gaea has 12 regions that alternate between constant daylight (User Image) and constant darkness (User Image). In order, starting with a constant daylight region they are: (1) Hyperion, (2) Rhea, (3) Crius, (4) Phoebe, (5) Tethys, (6) Thea, (7) Metis, (8 ) Dione, (9) Iapetus, (10) Cronus, (11) Mnemosyne, (12) Oceanus.

(1) Hyperion User Image

This is the most hospitable region inside Gaea. It's is full of rivers named for muses and consists mainly of vast, fertile plains and thick forests. Forest are thickly blanketed across the outter edges up until Gaea's round edges create too steep a hill, peaking at a plateau. The great river Ophion, which flows full circle around Gaea's rim also runs through Hyperion. Because of it's constant sunlight it is a very welcoming place. Coincidentally this is the place visitors see first. Most of the human population lives here with the largest group of Titanides. Titantown is the central gathering of sentient beings marked by a gigantic tree inside the Titanide Plains, near an area where the Ophion grew wider and looked much like a lake surrounded by rolling hills.

Titantown is vast holding a variety of tents including the homes of Titanides, hotels for visitors, workshops, and markets. These dwellings are in a large circle around the tree. The bazaars, and pubs are located closer to the trunk of the tree, and the residences are just at the edge of the cast shadow. There are even residences located in the tree branches because Titanides are just as capable at climbing trees as they are at getting by on land.

(2) Rhea] User Image

On the other side of Hyperion from Oeanus is Rhea. It is also a perpetual dark area. Although it is always dark here, even when there are clouds in the sky, you aren't completely blind. It is like an Earth night when the moon is full.

(3) Crius User Image

Another group of Titanides lives in this region, although they are slightly different from the Titanides in Hyperion. These Titanides are thinner, and much smaller. A human could look a Crian Titanide in the eyes with no trouble.

(12) Oceanus User Image

Oceanus is right next door to Hyperion, it is a dark region and completely covered in water. It is a frozen, desolate place. What creatures to live here are ill-willed. The land is inhospitable and any who cross venture to go as fast as they are capable.

(11) Mnemosyne User Image

Completely desolate desert wastelands.

Many of the other regions aren't fully explored yet because of the hostile lands that must be traveled through in order to get there. Not to mention when coming to Gaea, people are automatically placed in Hyperion which happens to be the most hospitable place to be. Most people when they arrive, find the welcoming tourist areas and don't even think of leaving their comfort zone.

User ImageNaming Convention

Every Titanide is given three names, and all of them are music related. The first name is the name of the instrument birth instrument, the second parenthetical name is what mode he or she was conceived by, and the last name is the chord name. A chord is like a race or a breed, and is often marked by specific features.

For example, Valiha (Aeolian Solo) Madrigal. A valiha is a stringed instrument made of bamboo that originated form Madagascar. Aeolian Solo is the mode by which she was conceived. A mode is the specific group of Titanides (or single Titanide as is the case this time) that came together to reproduce. Madrigal is Valiha's chord. Madrigal titanides a noted for their cotton candy pink hair.

For help with naming your Titanide, here are some lists to be inspired by.

Instruments:
It's very tempting to pick instruments that you're familiar with, but everyone else is familiar with them too. Popular picks that probably should be avoided are: Violin, Ocarina, Harp, Flute. Try researching different cultures, and what their instruments are. Here are some resources for different groups of instruments:
Renaissance Instruments
Chinese Instruments
African and Caribbean Instruments

Ensembles:
Sexual Ensembles, or modes, are the groups of Titanides that come together to reproduce. More on this later.

Chords:
Madrigal - yellow skin and cotton candy pink hair
Fanfare - milk chocolate colored skin
Marzurka - zebra striped pelt
Toccata
Bolero
Cantata
Fugue
Prelude
Blues

Ensembles

Gaea is a big fan of many things from Earth including movies, wars, and (let's be frank here) sex. Her interest in these not entirely wholesome topics has lead to the interesting physiology of Titanides. They each have three genitalia; where a horse would usually have one, a Titanide has a male and female set, and where a human would normally have one a Titanide also only has one. The "human" genital is how you tell males apart from females.

This interesting physiology lends a twist to reproduction which is quite baffling to humanity. Titanides are naturally gifted with the ability to think forward to what their genetics will bring forth, which is quite unlike humans. With humans when two people get together to reproduce, you can't be entirely sure of what will come to being. Titanides always know what their offspring will look like, and that is one of the main reasons why they are so disease and deformity-free.

In order to create an offspring, first an egg must be created by having rear copulation. This egg is not fertilized and will not result in a baby on it's own. The Wizard must put that egg in her mouth where a chemical reaction will occur between the egg and her saliva. From there, frontal copulation must occur in order to completely fertilize the egg. The egg then gestates inside the frontal organs for seven months (five kilorevs).

During pregnancy the pregnant mother is able to communicate with her unborn child via Lysenko effect. The Lysenko effect is a sort of telepathic communication ideas are shared between the two without using words. Mainly ideas and images are shared between the two. By this method an unborn child is able to tell the mother what his or her first instrument should be when it is born. Every Titanide child thinks of an instrument it would like to play after it's first breaths and is so named.

User ImageThe Purple Parade: The Birds and the Bees

Every Titanide wants to go on this journey to a mossy crater in the middle of Gaea in jolly music and song. Everyone is joyful and eager to get to their destination.
In the crater they set up in small groups or "Sexual Ensembles" where they decorate their small patch of land like small shrines. Some with elaborate decorations and others just make themselves look nice. This is a time of great superstition. A Titanide might build an entire shrine around a small stone that brought them luck one day.

The chosen one comes out of her tent and makes her rounds. She visits every group and lets them know if they are chosen or not. If a group is not picked they are sad, and pout about it when they get home. However, after a short time they will come out of their sadness and suddenly realize that they are able to enter in the next carnival and immediately begin their plans.

Miracles: A Heroe's Request

Gaea's knowledge of biology and manipulating genetic code is a power highly sought after. And even though she is capable of drastically helping human kind she is a narcissistic being who cares only about herself. So, even though she is capable of helping, she will only grant a wish if she gets something in return. Even then she is likely to do something you do not like and did not expect, the same way she did to the Wizard.

When people come to Gaea looking for a cure, or looking to request something of Gaea, her usual response is to tell them to do something heroic - become a hero and tell her a heroes tale. She absolutely adores stories, and will usually grant a wish to anyone who tells a good tale from their life.

It's not only humans that have requests form Gaea, though they are usually much more content with their lot.

John Varley writes some mean science fiction novels. His Gaea series consisting of the books Titan, Wizard, and Demon are an amazing adventure in a strange land with mythical creatures, and amazing plot. Although I have not had the pleasure to read any other books, (and I blame that on not being able to get over this series!) I am sure they are all equally amazing.

My ideas come straight from those three novels. I do not claim to have any original ideas myself. I am simply using his storyline, and from there interpreting it into a form that can be enjoyed in the form of role playing on Gaia. I know the idea will catch on when it is implemented correctly. So I will work hard to get to that point, because I know it will be amazing when it finally happens!
