1. Only those with permission may post. This includes all Fa'e and their guardians. If you would like to post, please PM me first to gain permission.

2. Please post only in character. Out of character comments may be made to me via PMs. Gifts may be dropped off if done so in character, but please check if there is an RP going on before you post, so as not to interrupt the flow. If you are unsure, just PM me the gift to be on the safe side.

3. If there is any way for you to approach me for RP in a thread in the guild, a messaging system, or through some other medium, please do so. I far prefer for my diary to have posts of consolidated roleplays, rather than a post-by-post account as we go back and forth.

4. If we roleplayed a scene and I have edited it to post in my diary, you are always welcome to copy and paste the portion you participated in to your own diary, rather than being forced to edit it yourself.

5. The only people welcome to post in this diary, humans and non-humans alike, are people I expect or hope Adelaide to regularly interact with. If you are not on this list, it is not a personal slight against you. It is merely that Adelaide either does not know you or does not expect to regularly interact with you. All invitations have roleplay somewhere backing them up. If you believe you should be a part of this list, contact me via PMs to discuss.

6. Please do not be afraid to poke me and say hello or ask for RP. I generally welcome it.

Highlight to Read

In the beginning the world was lifeless. Flat... featureless... dead.

Then came the Sprit Ancestors; part human, part animal. They came from the earth itself, crawling out of holes in the ground. These Ancestors explored the empty countryside, touching this world with their magic--and the earth was the catalyst their power needed for divine creation.

The Ancestors ate, slept, fought and made love, and around these actions sprang up all the earth's mountains, valleys, and forests. Rivers were formed from blood, rocks forged from bones, and from the Ancestors' hearts came all the animals.

When creation was complete, many Ancestors vanished, crawling back into the holes they came from. Other Ancestors stayed, their bodies creating physical features of the landscape.

Today, Aborigines believe that all living things and all inanimate objects are inhabited by the Ancestors' descendants. Every earthly thing is part of their spiritual heritage. This is the essence of the Dreamtime. More than just a creation myth, it's an entire realm in which spirits still exist...

~*~

The blazing sun rose over an ancient world of dark, dry earth, beckoning the ghostly spirit ancestors of The Dream out into another morning's light. Upon a low, craggy mountain, Malu, the kangaroo man, was just saying goodbye to his sister Mulumura, the lizard woman. The well-traveled Malu was growing restless, and a yearning in his heart was telling him it was time for another adventure. On his many travels, he had never been to the far west, and it was calling out to him, beckoning with the promise of new creatures to meet, new sights to see, new hazards to explore. Mulumura, however, was aglow with unhappiness. The testy lizard woman despised most creatures, but she loved her brother's company. She had missed him on his last drawn out journey and she was not eager for him to leave again.

"Where are you going?" The lizard woman asked now, a hint of disdain in her gravelly voice.

"It does not matter." Malu chuckled, the soft breeze stirring his spirits. "Somehow, you always know where I am. And I always know how to return to you." The bond between the two was close. So close, that it sometimes seemed to have a mystical quality. For example, at this moment Malu saw his sister was plagued by the idea of his absence, but it was the curious itch in his chest that alerted him to her true dismay.

"Do not worry sister. I will be fine. And I will return to you swiftly. Swifter, the sooner you let me go."

"Go, go, then." Mulumura blustered. "Take care of yourself." She understood. Malu swept her up into an embrace, and within moments was headed for the horizon.

On his travels, Malu saw many things, and came to know many creatures. He met the angry black swans, who had once been two-leggers, as well as a lightning fast creature who related a story of a harrowing encounter with the Bunyip. He even could have sworn one night--although it may have been a trick of the light--that he caught a glimpse of the famous Rainbow Snake.

He crossed the desert, traveling at night under the white moon. He reached the ocean, put his paws in, let the waves lap at his thighs. And when he had had his fill of the west, he changed his course for home.

Malu had traveled almost the entire distance to the rocky cliff where he knew Mulumura would be waiting, when one night he caught sight of a bright orange light burning directly up ahead. A two-legger campfire. He would swing a wide loop in the morning. Little did he know that when he did, his best intentions of caution would lead him straight to a hunting party.

He came upon them just as he hopped out of a copse of thin dry trees. Stunned by the sight of the two-leggers ahead of him, Malu saw it all as if time had slowed down. Their long limbs reaching ponderously for their spears, tilting back with an eerie torpor, and then at last, in a split second, shafts were flying towards him. Had those sinuous appendages even moved? Still transfixed by the mystic quality of the two-leggers' liquid motion, Malu didn't even think to move until he felt the rough stone head piercing through the flesh of his thigh.

Running. The spear, sticking out of his leg, angling backwards with his motion. The head, biting harder each time thick leg muscles contracted. Rhythmic bursts of pain, induced by each jump, synchronizing with the pounding of his heart. His leaps taking on a tottering quality. Blood. Blood spattering in frantic, liquid shapes on the dry, caked earth as he passed.

He lost the two-leggers in another thick patch of foliage, but his new route had led him directly into a dark swampy area, and his troubles were far from over. A quavering howl reached his ears and he whirled around, fear in his eyes. The group of wild dogs surged up at the edges, their stilted bodies undulating in the thick silver mist, dark shapes rising and falling with only the bright pairs of smoldering eyes to give any idea of separate entities within the shadowy mass.

With the spear in his leg, Malu knew he could not flee, and he kept his eyes on the dark mass as it tipped forward, rising like an ocean wave, and fell on him. Gnashing jaws tore at his shoulder, his thigh, the base of his tail, as Malu squirmed and thrashed under the weight of the dogs' bodies; the burden of their snarling growls and rancid breath.

The din grew in a rapid crescendo as the dogs snapped at each other, the rusty scent of Malu's blood driving them into a frenzy. The spear had somehow been tugged out by now, and the kangaroo man felt the world pitch along with his stomach in a dizzy haze of pain when he suddenly imagined he could hear a thin clear voice above the chaos: Malu!

Mulumura.

All at once he could feel her reptilian ferocity building inside him, a distilled tenacity bubbling up in his chest, calling him back, back to her. He must go to her. With a powerful kick of his battered hind legs, he dislodged the dog which had just opened up a gash in his chest, and in a couple of frenzied, violent twists he was free. Lunging forward, with a dog's jaws snapping together a fraction from his heels, Malu ran, his footprints bright red, each leap raking agony throughout his shattered form. His vision was blotchy, but he could see the mountain. It was closer than he thought, he was going to make it. The dogs would not be able to follow.

"Malu!" The voice was stronger now, and he could not be imagining it. As he straggled to the foot of the rocky slope, he focused on the lizard woman's blurry shape, and with vision dimming he felt her strong arms wrap around his form.

"No! Brother!" Mulumura cried out, tilting her head back in agony. "Do not leave me! You must not go!"

Malu's long paw closed tightly around his sister's wrist, and then, to Mulumura's horror, slowly relaxed and let go.

"No!" She repeated harshly, closing her eyes and folding her form over against her brother's body, her throat pressing against his warm shoulder. At that moment, a keening came over her. A sharp tug, as if the connection they'd shared had suddenly manifested itself into a thick rope and jerked itself out of her. She could no longer sense him there. He'd gone beyond her reach. For once in her life, the harsh-spirited lizard woman felt her eyes glaze over with grief. Cradling her brother gently in her arms, she put her muzzle up to his unreceptive ear, and hissed: "Brother...brother, please. You must find a way to come back--" Her voice hitched in her throat as she realized the impossibility of the command. The connection was gone. He was gone.

But something had left her. Some part of her had followed him. Was it impossible that that the rest could not follow? Mulumura grit her teeth together.

"Brother, I can not feel you anymore. If you can still hear me, then listen. I am coming for you. Hold onto me." With that she leaned over his body again. She would not leave this spot. As her resolve calcified, her body followed suit. Slowly, her extremities hardened and changed to the dull red of the bedrock, until the process had engulfed not only her own body, but Malu's as well. Lifeless statues, they gave off a dull sandstone glow under the harsh outback light.

When the sun set on the mountain that night, it set on a sacred place. Hundreds of thousands of year later, Malu and Mulumura's silhouettes would be recognized by natives as one of the many hallowed vestiges of the Dream. The blood tossed to the ancient ground would later become the ochre deposits that Aborigine people painted their faces with. Meanwhile, all that time, the two dormant spirits, locked together as one, would be waiting...

Summary

For those too lazy to read the myth or who just want the quick and dirty: In Aboriginal mythos exists a character named Malu, a kangaroo man who went on many travels and adventures in the world of dreamtime. Eventually, coming back from a journey to the west, Malu was attacked by men/got in a fight with a pack of dingoes and was fatally wounded. He died in the arms of his sister Mulumura, the lizard woman. This event is said to be set into stone in the sacred site of Kata Tjuta. A rock pillar on the eastern side, with a smaller rock leaning against it, embodies Malu as he dies cradled in his sister's arms.

Addie is the reincarnation of Malu, with considerable influence stemming from part of Mulumura's spirit which latched onto her brother's retreating soul in grief as he died.

Toddler Quest
Quote:
TODDLER QUEST!

Oh no! How in the heck did Addie's little snail manage to run away! And at the worst of times, right when she's getting ready to grow! Gosh, you just can't trust those things, can you?

She's going to need some new friends to cheer her on to the next stage of life. Say, at least five snails, plus a terrarium to keep them from dashing off on her again and a bunch of plants for them to munch on.

But just having a peanut gallery isn't enough, you know. Adelaide may not remember her past life, but there's some things she just knows that she has to get her hands on: A set of bongos (or any sort of tribal drum), something relating to kangaroos, and something related to lizards. Then, and only then, she will be ready....

Talaf, Phillip, Gregor, Slimy, and Bubble.
Lizard Tattoos, Tribal Drums, and a Kangaroo Boomerang.
