TDM 2008 is officially closed. I still strongly believe that the sentiment of this movement lasts longer than just one month of the year; therefore, I will continue to support it by wearing the daffodil bouquet. Feel free to stop in and say hi, but don't expect things to be terribly active.

This is 2008’s version of the Daffodil Movement for cancer awareness.

The yellow daffodil is the symbol for the National Cancer Society. The original premise of the Daffodil Movement was for each participant in the thread to equip a daffodil bouquet through the month of April (Cancer awareness month), in order to support and honor Long Vo (aka VO, art director and admin here on Gaia) whose father died from cancer April 9th, 2006.

April is over, and years have passed since that large group of Gaians banded together in a tremendous show of love and support. [Normally this runs through the month of April, but this time it's been May.] So many people’s lives are affected by cancer, every single day. We can’t do much within our little virtual world in cyberspace, but what we can do is show our support and maybe offer a little bit of comfort to those affected. Just to know that nobody is in this alone.

I found the Daffodil Movement completely on accident one day, browsing through some old announcements. I saw that VO had a link to it in his signature. Curious as to what an admin would link to in their own signature, I clicked on it and found all about this movement and VO’s own personal connection with it. I posted on it and subscribed to it, because my own mother was fighting cancer and it felt like a relief to find something on Gaia like this.

I kept bumping the thread but it was obvious that the movement was not active anymore. I followed links out and found other incarnations of the movement, and I posted in all of them too. On May 1, 2008, my mother died. That’s 20 days ago from the time I make this post.

I don’t have the money or knowledge to help get rid of cancer. But I want to do something. I’ve wanted to dedicate myself to something. And this is the answer that I’ve found. Continuing on the Daffodil Movement not just for me or my mother or Long Vo, but for everyone that has to deal with this in their lives.

Getting on this list is easy. All you have to do is say “I support” or “I sign” or something along those lines. You are not required to equip a bouquet; however, doing so would be much appreciated. I have heard of some people equipping a blue daffodil bouquet in support of Ovarian Cancer…that works too. Since this isn’t being confined to just the month of April, there is no specific time frame either. However long you intend on hanging out in the thread sounds about right. List will be updated at the end of the day or whenever I have some spare time.
