Happy Pride Month, and welcome to the Durem LGBT Pride Parade! This is a week-long, primarily LGBT-run user event in celebration of the camaraderie, diversity, and progress of our community!
Many of Gaia's LGBT characters reside in Durem, and so we felt hosting Pride here would only make sense. Durem is one of, if not the oldest town in Central Gaia, down to its architecture, but it's a constantly progressing, vibrant and beautiful place made that way by a vibrant and beautiful community. Like Durem, the LGBT community has always existed and it is here to stay, and the world is richer and better off for it.
Originally celebrated as Gay Pride Day in honor of the Stonewall riots, Pride eventually came to encompass the entirety of June and became what it is today, a month of celebration and remembrance. We’ve come together to have our own celebration on the last week! Just like other Pride parades and events, the Durem LGBT Pride event is intended to bring Gaia's LGBT+ community together, acknowledging in particular those who may not be able to celebrate anywhere else. Welcome to a full week of self-expression and support! You can party with our hosts, win prizes, and meet others in the community! Our hosts have crafted several fun contests and games for parade-goers— and even if you just feel like chatting, you might still walk away with a gift!

Welcome to the main event!
One of the most notable aspects of Pride Month are the LGBT Pride Parades taking place all over the world, so we thought we'd hold our own right here on Gaia! Join us on a parade through zOMG! This is an event with an emphasis on group fun, camaraderie, and being a safe and welcoming space for all LGBT+ users, particularly those who aren't otherwise able to attend a large LGBT gathering like this!
Of course, because Durem hasn't been completely implemented in any of Gaia's flash spaces, we're going for its sister town—Barton!
This is our current parade route for Barton, but it will soon expand to form a quarter-circle around Barton through Village Greens, Bill's Ranch, and Zen Gardens!
The march will be held every day at 03:00pm Pacific/06:00pm Eastern and 05:00pm Pacific/08:00pm Eastern!

After completing the short intro segment and familiarizing yourself with the controls (found under Menu ▶ Options ▶ Controls), head directly north from the first screen of Village Greens! Make sure to attune yourself to the Null Crystal, then continue onward to Barton's South Gate.
From there, simply go north and cross the bridge to Central Barton, and you've made it!

Of course, just showing up and taking part is absolutely a valid option, but this is here to encourage the increased visibility having a Pride item equipped would offer. Much like a real-life pride parade, many of us will be wearing the colors of our flags! This is both a way to celebrate Pride and, in this case, a practicality—not everyone who's in the area will be participating in the parade, so if you'd like, equip something to indicate that you're a parade-goer!
This may be in the form of equipping the Rainbow Feels or Love Wins mood bubbles, equipping your own Pride flag (or tapestry!), wearing an avatar with the colors of your flag, et cetera!
We do, however, ask that allies visibly equip an item with the flag or colors of Durem.
Hidy-ho Duremites!!! What better way to celebrate the after Pride Parade than with a musical performance? Got mad singing chops? Don't got mad signing chops, but instead got mad bravery? Prove it! We're doing a Karaoke Kween Contest!

A good song will be colorful, mostly clean language (one or two curse words is fine, but please use your best judgement), and represent the spirit of Pride! A lot of the people there were in the LGBT community, and I always felt very at home among them. It was what gave me strength, and power, to try and push forward. When I initially came out I had no information, there was no trans movement, it was just me and a few people I knew on the internet, and then in the next few years, there was an explosion, and Born this Way really helped hold me down. I would blast it full volume and drown out absolutely everything when I was feeling absolutely upset with the world, and just wanted to help solidify how I felt about my gender identity, because so many people kept screaming at me that I wasn't who I now know I am. Gaga helped me through that, and I silently thank her every day for giving me the anthem that aided me during this time. I would - in truth, say there is another song, that means even more to me, that I sang one year for a live performance at TDOR in Orlando, just a year before Pulse, which I luckily, had decided not to go to that night, but it's Read all About it by Emilie Sande.. I'd say it is both relevant to LGBT+ pride, as well as all oppressed people right now.. It's something we need to hear, and I think it's something that needs to be blasted from every radio until the world truly listens.

Firstly, I'm not huge on the cisnormativity of the song, but it definitely left a big impression on young Norel, and helped me come to terms with my own identity, especially given the plight of Hedwig, the singer and main character of the musical, which felt so akin to mine at a young age. More recently I followed the tour of the musical while Darren Criss was performing with Lena Hall, I saw it arguably too many times, and we threw together a road trip to follow it a few days before it left San Francisco, and we followed it down to SoCal! I still remember the first time I saw Lena play Hedwig, my friends had to help me stand for the ovation, I was shaking so badly from the amazing performance.
Also I'm sorry, my computer lags insanely when doing this kinda stuff, so the music glitches and gets unsynced and there's no fix. lkdjfaljs

Why does this song represent Pride to you?: I am not LGBTQ+ myself but back in school I had a friend who came to me and told me she wanted to come out to her family. I had known for years that she liked girls but she felt then was the time to talk to her family. I encouraged her in any way I could. She just felt like she couldn't be out right and honest with them so we used "fireworks" to symbolize her feeling like she was living a lie and in telling her family she felt that spark of who she really was and wanted to let them know she wasn't changing, just becoming who she was always meant to be.

Did you know the original LGBT Pride Flag was emblazoned with eight different colors, each with its own meaning? Hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, turquoise for the arts, indigo for harmony and violet for spirit. Because it was cheaper to produce with fewer colors, later editions of the flag were created with 6 colors, lacking the hot pink and turquoise.

Durem is well-known for its electrifying nightlife, thanks in no small part to Durem's vampire and dark elf populations—and, more than likely, its LGBT community! Nightlife establishments have, after all, always had a particular draw for LGBT communities the world over, often being places safe from prying eyes where they're simply allowed to be a part of their own community.
It follows that it's often in places like these where LGBT love is most visible—not only the romantic love, which is wonderful and good and fun and worth celebrating by itself, but also the love LGBT people have for each other, their loyalty and solidarity.
Whether you're painting, drawing, sketching, or writing, depict a scene from Durem's LGBT nightlife! This could be of your favorite LGBT ship, some LGBT NPCs out for a night on the town, or just a general portrait of LGBT nightlife in Durem—the only criteria for entry is that the piece is set at night in Durem and has a focus on interactions between LGBT NPCs.
