Way back in 2010 and 2011, the problems with the parser were brought to the Gaia staff on a technical level, not just a "Yo, this is broken and this is what it does." These included both some pretty extensive examples of how the parser is broken and how emoji parsing was altered. I did read over your Introduction post, so I will not press you for answers, but I would like to see if you've at least considered going back and finishing the projects.

The new parser was actively being developed at the time by, I think CarbonPhyber, and Panagrammic before they left the site.

That's three unique threads with developer attention, by the way. I don't recall who the developer was in the emoji thread, but I do recall talking to a developer in it. They aren't employed by you now either. :c

As an unrelated question for you personally, if you don't mind:
Do you think you'll try to restore Gaia to it's former days? Or do you want to see if it's a new culture than the one you developed and cater to the new generation of your baby? I am honestly curious, not a loaded question.

Legal.

I'd really like to see this get fixed. It's been years...

Please yes! They might individually be annoying little issues that can be worked around, but you add them up....
The guilds and PMs issues in particular really show the age of those site features.

I seem to remember carbonphyber putting in a ton of time getting ready to fix these things. Code maintenance is important. I hope the new team can get a person to take care of this area of need (an oldbie Gaian coder for preference, like carbonphyber or Panagrammic or Uncle Kenny).

None of them are employed by Gaia anymore. :c Unless they stopped using the front end so they have no reason to have a developer account.

I do wish that I can work with Carbonphyber again at some point. For the time being we are very strapped on resources and we'll probably be tackling the bigger ticket items first. What I'll do is to share with you all a bug list later down the road so you can see and vote for what to fix next. Maybe I can find a good BBCODE parsing library and make the work a lot shorter. For now I'll add to the to-do list. Thank you.

You're welcome! And thank you for reading. If there's any way I can help please let me know. I'd love to help return the site if possible. It's been, at minimal, present in my life nearly daily since 2005.

Bump for relevance! Lanzer is trying to do a rich text editor. But... I think this should be fixed, first.
